Nicki Minaj covers the latest issue of Rolling Stone, and her girls are on full display. I cropped the cover, but you can see the full version here. When I saw the shoot, I immediately thought of Uncle Terry. Yep, he was the photographer. His harshly-lit aesthetic is obvious from miles away. Nicki’s hair and makeup look lovely and natural, and then the Terry vibe sets in below the shoulders. Sigh. Rolling Stone finally released some excerpts, which are pretty heavy. Nicki covers a lot of ground, including her recent long-term breakup, her teenage abortion, and her feelings on hip-hop’s current lack of a voice:
On The Pinkprint: “One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it’s something I’ve kept very private.”
The end of her 11-year relationship with Safaree Samuels: “I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone. I struggled with ‘Do I express these feelings?’ And I decided there’s no reason for me to hide. I’m a vulnerable woman, and I’m proud of that.”
The more mature Nicki: “With a video like ‘Anaconda,’ I’m a grown-ass f***ing woman! I stand for girls wanting to be sexy and dance, but also having a strong sense of themselves. If you got a big ol’ butt? Shake it! Who cares? That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be graduating from college.”
Her teenage pregnancy: “I thought I was going to die. I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.” She ended up having an abortion, a decision she says has “haunted me all my life,” though it was the right choice for her at the time. “It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.” She first rapped about the experience on a mixtape track called “Autobiography” she says she “didn’t expect anyone to hear.” Now the world is listening to every word she says very carefully: “Millions of people are gonna hear it. And you gotta watch everything you say — people find an issue with every f***ing thing.”
Nicki shades other artists’ lack of craftsmanship: “I hate when artists brag about not writing rhymes, or doing things really quickly, and then it’s not great. It’s ill when Jay-Z or Wayne say it, because the results are great. When they’re not? Sit your a** down and figure out something new to say!”
On what happened to Kanye: “I feel like when Public Enemy were doing ‘Fight the Power,’ we as a culture had more power — now it feels hopeless. People say, ‘Why aren’t black celebrities speaking out more?’ But look what happened to Kanye when he spoke out. People told him to apologize to Bush! He was the unofficial spokesman for hip-hop, and he got torn apart. And now you haven’t heard him speaking about these last couple things, and it’s sad. Because how many times can you be made to feel horrible for caring about your people before you say, ‘F*** it, it’s not worth it, let me live my life because I’m rich, and why should I give a f***?’”
[From Rolling Stone]
When Nicki talks about Kanye being shredded for his words, she’s referring to Kanye’s Hurricane Katrina telethon performance. No one can forget the alarmed reaction of Mike Myers and Chris Tucker to Kanye’s off-speech words. Nicki has a point about Kanye not speaking out about “these last couple things” (Ferguson and Eric Garner), but I don’t think Kanye’s being quiet because he’s afraid. Much of what he says (and does not say) now must be filtered through his Kardashian konnections. Even before the Kimye relationship, Kanye jumped the shark on relatability, except to one-percenters.
Nicki brought up her experience with abortion because she raps about it on one of the Pinkprint tracks. I appreciate that she’s still pro-choice despite her sadness on the subject.
By the way, a new-old video surfaced of Nicki acting at LaGuardia High (the place that wouldn’t let her guest speak). She did her best Naomi Campbell.

She?s thrilled to have released her third studio album this week and Nicki Minaj stopped by ?The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon? to plug The Pinkprint on Monday (December 15).
The ?Anaconda? rapper was in fine form, sporting a unique shredded minidress that showed off her ample lady pillows as she chatted with Fallon. From there, Nicki changed into a hooded fur waistcoat with skinny jeans and took the stage for a high-energy performance.

| Nicki Minaj in Alexander Wang at the AMAs: beautiful or boring? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Nicki Minaj wore Alexander Wang to last night’s AMAs. This is a cute little dress, and she paired it with Manolo Blahnik pumps. At first, I thought it was a boring dress, but it’s very detailed with all sorts of cutouts and a pleated mesh skirt. The runway version is easier to size up because Nicki’s heavy hair covers up some of the fun. I still can’t get used to Nicki’s “serious” face. The Pink lipstick bugs.
Selena Gomez also went for basic black in Armani Priv. This dress is okay, but I feel like we’ve seen her wear it a million times before. Ditto for the smoothed back hairstyle with a center part. Selena performed her Bieber-inspired epic song, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” and you can see the clip here. She stood in front of a pair of CGI angel wings.

| Nicki Minaj is sorry for her Nazi imagery video 'if it has offended anyone' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Nicki Minaj finally came down from the high of her strategically scheduled release of the “Only” lyric video. We already talked about the Nazi imagery throughout the vid. Some of you asked why I didn’t discuss the song’s raunchy lyrics. Well I can only complain about so much before losing my mind, which I decided was worth expending on the stunt-queening aspect of Nicki’s publicity trail. The lyrics about Nicki’s cupcake butt and how Breezy and Drake both wanted to hit that? Old hat.
Anyway. Nicki’s video was chock full of unmistakable references to Nazi symbols. The animated video featured Nicki’s cartoon likeness, so she could have defended herself by saying she had nothing to do with the vid. Unfortunately for Nicki, she just told Billboard how she is deeply involved with every aspect of her career. You can bet she approved this video’s theme, and she knew it would coincide with many historical anniversaries. Such as the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall? Rememberance Day? Veteran’s Day. Yep. All of those days.
Nicki decided to play dumb. She faux-apologized on Twitter:
(1) I didn’t come up w/the concept, but I’m very sorry & take full responsibility if it has offended anyone. I’d never condone Nazism in my art.
(2) The artist who made the lyric video for ?Only? was influenced by a cartoon on Cartoon Network called “Metalocalypse” & Sin City.
(3) Both the producer, & person in charge of over seeing the lyric video (one of my best friends & videographer: A. Loucas), happen to be Jewish
[From Nicki Minaj on Twitter]
Yeah, this is the same act Nicki pulled when that GQ journo asked about “Anaconda.” Nicki was all, “Butts?!? I have no idea what butts are.” Now she’s all, “Nazis? Not my fault.”
The director of Nicki’s lyric video, Jeff Osbourne, took to his MySpace to defend his work. He posted a screenshot of a gas mask from the video and issued a non-apology that ended with this gem: “So if my work is misinterpreted because it?s not a sappy tearjerker, sorry I?m not sorry. What else is trending?”
Sounds about right. Nicki wanted to #trend with this lyric video. She got what she wanted. Is her apology sincere at all?

| Nicki Minaj on the media: 'shame on them for commenting on Anaconda' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Nicki Minaj covers the December issue V magazine. She was photographed by Mario Testino, and the shoot isn’t as risque as you’d expect. I mean, she sticks her butt towards the camera, but that’s typical Nicki. You can see all of the pictures here. Nicki looks fierce, but I’m still adjusting to the “serious” persona of her Pink Print era.
Something is definitely up with Nicki lately. Everyone knows her NSFW “Anaconda” video is completely focused on booties. Nicki tried to tell GQ that if the video made people think about butts, then that’s their issue, not hers. She’s playing a different game with V mag. Nicki says “shame on” the media for focusing on the single cover where her tush is completely out. Nicki thinks she’s being singled out for risque imagery, which makes me wonder if she’s paid any attention to the past few years of Miley Cyrus or Rihanna antics:
On criticism for the “Anaconda” cover: “You’re talking about newspeople who don’t even know anything about hip-hop culture. It?s so disrespectful for them to even comment on something they have no idea about. They don?t say anything when they?re watching the Victoria’s Secret show and seeing boobs and thongs all day. Why? Shame on them. Shame on them for commenting on “Anaconda” and not commenting on the rest of the oversexualized business we?re a part of.”
On empowering women: “I always feel it’s important for me to show females that they can be in charge of their own situation. I came into the game creating my own brand. I was doing things very early on that set me apart from people who just took orders and allowed their brand to be created for them. I love women who take control, who set standards, and who believe in themselves enough to lead the way in terms of their career. I?ve done that. When I win and when I lose.”
On her risque lyrics: “I always push the envelope, because I?m Nicki Minaj. I have to. No matter who I?m on a song with, I feel like I have to say at least one thing no one else is willing to say. Whether it’s Madonna, Britney, or Beyonce, they always tell me, ‘Yes. Be Yourself. Talk your sh-t.’”
[From V magazine]
Yes, Nicki’s risque lyrics are in full force. I’m surprised she doesn’t deny they exist since she’s so full of it lately. Not that she can hide the “t*ssed my salad like his name was Romaine” talk in the “Anaconda” song. Or any of her other lyrics that I can’t repeat here. I also find it hilarious that Nicki keeps throwing tushy tantrums over models’ rear ends. She still doesn’t understand that lingerie catalogs are selling the stuff that the models are wearing. So if you want to sell thongs, the models must wear thongs. Oh well.
At least she didn’t doze off 4 times during this interview. Or maybe she did, and V will tell us all about in the full interview.

| T.I. on the Nicki Minaj vs Iggy Azalea feud: 'Women can't get along' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

T.I. is promoting his ninth album, Paperwork, so he’s been doing a few interviews. Before I get to his quotes, a brief refresher would help. T.I. mentors Iggy Azalea and often defends her in the press (with or without success). T.I.’s very loyal to Iggy when it comes to her art, but his attitude towards her interactions with other rap artists feels different.
Iggy has a few high-profile feuds under her “Fancy” belt this year. Nicki Minaj shaded Iggy not once but (possibly) twice. A few weeks ago, Snoop Dogg called Iggy foul names and made fun of her makeup-free pap shots. T.I. reportedly made a phone call to Snoop, who faux-apologized to Iggy.
T.I. spoke with Vibe Vixen for a #CRWN sitdown. Iggy’s feud with Nicki came up in conversation. T.I. also talked with MTV about the Snoop Dogg debacle. T.I. feels like the girlfight was very different than what happened with Snoop. How shocking:
On the Nicki vs. Iggy feud: “Women can’t get along.” He also added that Nicki was jealous because Iggy “took a lot of motherf—ers’ spots.”
On the Snoop vs. Iggy feud: “I didn’t make Snoop do anything. I stepped in when it became a public topic of discussion. When it stopped being between two people and it was being observed by the world, and it was almost like people were tuning in just to see what was happening next. Me and Snoop have a long-standing personal and professional relationship. I have a huge amount of admiration, love and respect for him and for what he?s done for the game — for people like me to be able to do what we do — and when I called him it was a very, very, very cordial, respectful [conversation]. He immediately said he knew what I was calling about and just assured me [that it was] nothing to even worry about. It?s over with. And we started talking about something else immediately.”
[From Vibe Vixen & MTV News]
T.I. believes that Nicki and Iggy couldn’t help but fight because “women can’t get along.” As if women have nothing better to do than roll around in a pit of mud and pull each other’s hair extensions. But Snoop? T.I. respects Snoop. That feud was nothing to worry about because dudes can work it out. What a gross attitude from T.I., but I’m not surprised.

She caused quite a stir with her ?accidental? wardrobe issues at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, and now Nicki Minaj has landed the hosting duties at the 20th Anniversary MTV EMAs.
The ?Anaconda? singer took to her Twitter account to tell her loyal followers the good news in the wee hours of Tuesday morning (September 30).
Nicki tweeted, "So excited to announce that I will not only perform, but I have the honorable task of HOSTING this year's #MTVEMA!"
The 2014 MTV EMAs will take place on Sunday, November 9th live from the SSE Hydro venue in Glasgow, Scotland.

One of the sobering aspects about raising a teenage girl is discovering your own uncoolness as a parent. Your little baby, who used to scream “Mommy!” and run into your arms in the elementary school parking lot? She’s gone. She’s been replaced by a very serious mini-grownup. She will be mortified by her parental units at every turn. One of my passive-aggressive guilty pleasures is to feed this embarrassment. Just a bit. I do things like playing Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and declaring that it’s “my favorite song.” Poor kid will probably never forgive me.
Nicki has some embarrassment of her own to deal with. Okay, maybe she’s not hanging her head, but Nicki is upset. She planned to speak at LaGuardia High School in NYC (where she graduated from in 2000). Nicki was excited to dazzle students with tales of inspiration until she was turned away by the principal. She angst-tweeted her disappointment:
I wanted to go back to my HS and speak to the students but the new principal declined. No need for me to inspire them, I guess. Smh

| Nicki Minaj faked her wardrobe malfunction at the VMAs: shock? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Even though Sunday’s VMAs were eclipsed by Monday’s Emmys, some little bits of news are still coming out. Nothing major happened at this year’s VMAs (because everything in the future will be measured against Miley’s 2013 twerk) unless one consider’s Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and wardrobe malfunction. None of Nicki’s bits and pieces fell out, but she looked like she was struggling valiantly to conceal her “modesty.” Well as much as one can be modest after posting her own booty on Instagram.
Nicki is almost always full of drama, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if she cooked up her sartorial malfunctions on purpose. TMZ claims to have insider information about how Nicki “rehearsed” her wardrobe problems in advance of the show. Hmm:
Nicki Minaj CLAIMS her dress was unzipped during her performance at the VMAs because she didn’t have enough time to get ready … but that’s BS — she pulled the same stunt during rehearsals.
Eyewitnesses who watched Nicki’s rehearsal Sunday morning tell TMZ … she walked on stage wearing the same dress — unzipped. One eyewitness says it caught her eye because she initially thought Nicki had come out in a robe.
We’re told Nicki was wrapping her arms around the dress in a “weird” sort of way … trying to manipulate it to see how much would be exposed.
And we’re told … the VMAs created a make-shift dressing room right off stage — draped with black sheets — so she would have enough time to change.
Whatever, it worked … everyone’s talking about it.
[From TMZ]
Is this shocking at all? Not really. Drama, baby. Nicki loves the drama, but “no shade” intended. What was more surprising is that Nicki’s performance was a complete mess. Lainey says the problems all started when Casper Smart was hired as choreographer. LOL. Never mind the stories of the backup dancer being bitten by a snake during rehearsals. Never mind Nicki trying to hold her zipper together. Here comes Casper Smart, overshadowing everything once again.
