I guess Kate Upton finally realized she needed to step her social media game up if she wanted to compete with all the busty Snapchat models out there these days. See, it’s not enough to just do bikini photoshoots anymore. You’ve also got to send out bikini videos to your followers pretty much 24/7. And […]

I’m not entirely sure where this amazing GIF of Kate Upton attempting to cover her massive funbags with a towel is from, and I’m way too lazy to bother looking it up. Also, right now I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Kate was able to find a towel big enough […]

I don’t know if it technically qualifies as a hotness comeback if you’ve still been doing magazine covers once a month, but Kate Upton was looking pretty boring (which is code forchubby, just to be clear) for a while there. And between that great lip sync video yesterday and now this latest Instagram shot, I’m […]

According to my sources, there’s an entire show on NBC right now dedicated to celebrities lip-syncing. And I was all set to write some TV producer a congratulatory email about how they’ve finally managed to findsomething even lamer than Carpool Karaoke. But then I saw Kate Upton “perform” Britney and uh, yeah, nevermind. If you […]

Sport Illustrated?s swimsuit issue cover girl (times three) Kate Upton led a discussion recently about body positivity with three other models from the magazine. The theme of this year?s swimsuit issue is body diversity and age inclusivity. The four women, Kate, Hailey Clauson, Sailor Brinkley Cook and Aly Raisman, posted a Facebook Live conversation they had about their own struggles with their bodies and the criticism they received. Kate has struggled for most of career fighting criticism that either she is not high-end enough to model or that she is ?too big.? At one point, it got so bad for Kate, that some ridiculous blog lamented that American women wanted to emulate her ?squishy? figure. For the most part, Kate walked away from those discussions without giving them any energy. But, as you can read in this interview, it wasn?t because she wasn?t paying attention.
Four of theSports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue?s latest stars came together on Saturday for an inspiring conversation about body confidence.
Kate Upton, Hailey Clauson, Sailor Brinkley Cook, and Aly Raismansat down for a revealingFacebook Live conversation ? each opening up about her own journey to body positivity.
The three-time cover star, Upton, led the chat, and said it was actually her critics who inspired her confidence. ?I got my first cover when I was 19,? Upton, 24, said. ?After my first cover, [critics]were discussing whether I was fat or not. I had this huge moment in my career and they were tearing it apart.?
?I have to thank the people who did that because it really made me sit back and find out who I was and what meant something to me and how I thought about my body,? she continued. ?At 19, I wasn?t thinking about that. I sat there answering all these questions I had about my body because I really didn?t know.?
Upton joked, ?if you don?t have haters, then you?re probably not successful.? But more importantly, she sees the painbehind the comments critics made. ?They lashed out on me because they felt insecure about themselves,? Upton said.
?I realize that my confidence that I had in my body was actually meant to inspire women to love themselvesfor all their different flaws,? she added.
[From People]
Like Kate or not, I appreciate her outlook on this. She took the comments from the people who tore her down to consider what she really thought about herself. We should all be so lucky to emerge from an image crisis with this outlook.
If you have a minute to watch the chat or read the article, I encourage you to do so. The first thing you notice is that four beautiful women speaking about how hurt they were by attacks on their physical attributes. What I found most interesting is that each woman frames their discussion within the context of the group with which they associated. Hailey discussed being a runway model from the age of 14, suddenly developing breasts and hips and being told she?d ruined her career. Sailor discussed being compared to her supermodel mother. And Aly, whom the other ladies fan girl over, was discounted as a gymnast because only a ?stick-straight body? were thought to be contender. Each woman also discussed how important it is to become comfortable in your own skin. I think most of us know this is not an easy task. But the beauty is that once you get there, you really don’t go back. Looking at yourself through your own lens and not those of somebody else is a truly empowering thing.
Plus, it is kind of worth it to see Kate and Hailey?s faces when Aly brings up the Cat Daddy video.

| Kate Upton still thinks it's 'horrific' that athletes protested during the anthem | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m a little bit sorry for half-defending Kate Upton yesterday. I didn?t really give a full-throated defense of her because before now, I just thought she was a bowl of oatmeal. You know? She was just too bland to really be controversial. I?ve revised my opinion of Upton as she waded even further into the athlete-anthem controversy though. Now I just need her to get off of social media, because she sounds like she really hasn?t considered what she?s saying or why African-Americans are trying to draw attention to certain issues by the simple act of disruption, the act of taking a knee for the anthem.
Yesterday, I just focused on Kate?s tweets and I didn?t even get them all (I?m sorry). After her tweets ? where she told athletes what they ?should? do and what is and is not ?acceptable? ? she tweeted back to Soledad O?Brien, who was basically like ?just take a breath and think for a moment about what you?re saying.? There was also some back and forth about whether she finds it ?acceptable? to protest during the anthem at all, or just specifically unacceptable on 9/11. She ended up coming down on ?never? protesting during the anthem, especially on 9/11. She also posted this longer #HotTake on Instagram:
In my opinion, the national anthem is a symbolic song about our country. It represents honoring the many brave men and women who sacrifice and have sacrificed their lives each and every single day to protect our freedom. Sitting or kneeling down during the national anthem is a disgrace to those people who have served and currently serve our country. Sitting down during the national anthem on September 11th is even more horrific.
Protest all you want and use social media all you want. However, during the nearly two minutes when that song is playing, I believe everyone should put their hands on their heart and be proud of our country for we are all truly blessed. Recent history has shown that it is a place where anyone no matter what race or gender has the potential to become President of the United States. We live in the most special place in the world and should be thankful.
After the song is over, I would encourage everyone to please use the podium they have, stand up for their beliefs, and make America a better place. The rebuilding of battery park and the freedom tower demonstrates that amazing things can be done in this country when we work together towards a common goal. It is a shame how quickly we have forgotten this as a society.
Today we are more divided then ever before. I could never imagine multiple people sitting down during the national anthem on the September 11th anniversary. The lessons of 911 should teach us that if we come together, the world can be a better and more peaceful place #neverforget.
[From Instagram]
Yeah? I actually understand what Kate is *trying* to say, but the language she uses is ?horrific,? to use her word. To some people, sitting out the anthem is a ?disgrace,? to some it isn?t. Upton?s argument that ?we are all truly blessed? is something that comes from a place of privilege, and she doesn?t acknowledge that at all. These athletes protested because they don?t feel ?blessed.? They see black children and black women and black men being gunned down on the street. They don?t see the same kind of justice system that white people see. They don?t see the same educational advantages that white people see. They don?t even see many white people simply acknowledging that they have a right to feel angry and sad, and they have a right to protest. No one is asking Upton to cosign every issue being raised by Kaepernick and his supporters, but at least acknowledge that they have the right to speak, to disrupt, to protest… by any means necessary.
?Recent history has shown that it is a place where anyone no matter what race or gender has the potential to become President of the United States. We live in the most special place in the world and should be thankful.? I?ll translate: we had a black president for eight years so why aren?t ?you people? grateful? So much privilege.

| Kate Upton has some thoughts about football players sitting out the anthem | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Football player Colin Kaepernick?s actions continue to reverberate throughout the NFL. Kaepernick decided, in the preseason, that he would stop standing for the National Anthem. For several games, Kaepernick simply sat on the sidelines, but he recently decided to take a knee during the anthem. While Kaepernick was widely blasted at first, many veterans came to his defense, as did many athletes and allies. It?s become a thing now, and at last night?s Miami Dolphins game, Dolphins Kenny Stills, Michael Thomas, Arian Foster and Jelani Jenkins all ?took a knee? during the anthem as well.
Well, Kate Upton has some thoughts. Upton is from Florida, and I guess she?s a big Dolphins supporter/fan. I guess she?s also been living under a rock for the past three weeks, because it suddenly occurred to her last night that she has an opinion about this breaking news of ?athletes taking a knee.? At first, she tweeted this:
This is unacceptable. You should be proud to be an American. Especially on 9/11 when we should support each other. https://t.co/qFozwaH9Bu

| Kate Upton: 'L.A.?how do I know who's who' You all look like sisters' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kate Upton is one of three cover ladies for the October issue of Glamour. Joan Smalls and Emily Ratajkowski also got separate covers, and I?ll be covering those stories separately (or maybe not in Smalls? case, just because her interview is pretty boring). Anyway, Upton is back to modeling after a brief hiatus where she tried to become a movie star, to somewhat mixed results. I mean, she got chances but Hollywood was just sort of *shrug*. So she re-signed with a modeling agency and I?m guessing she?s refocusing on getting modeling work. In any case, I didn?t hate her interview at all. She talks about body image, the modeling industry and how it?s good to be different.
Did she always want to model? ?I knew nothing about fashion growing up, because in Florida you just wear bikinis and flip-flops. But kids can be cruel, and they used to make fun of me for having long legs and bushy eyebrows. My mom would flip through magazines and say, ?Look, all these models have that too.? I decided I wanted to be a model.?
Whether she was ever told to lose weight: ?All. The. Time. At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn?t realistic?that this is just the shape of my body. So I had to block them out. I think that the people who are the loudest about wanting to change you are the people with the least amount of vision and creativity.
Her confidence: ?Where I grew up, it was considered a great thing to have a curvy body to fill out a bathing suit. For that to be a negative was so confusing to me. And besides, when I started working, I was booked constantly, mostly for catalog work. So when people were saying, ?Oh, she doesn?t have the right look for a model,? I thought, Then why am I working every single day? There are so many different directions you can take in the modeling industry, so many ways to be successful.
Her breakthrough year in 2013: ?That was a really cool moment. The fact that people were having a conversation about whether I should conform to fashion or not gave me a great platform, because I wanted to show that you shouldn?t conform, you should be the best you, the healthiest you. You shouldn?t always try to change yourself, because then how are we going to tell anybody apart? It?s like L.A.?how do I know who?s who? You all look like sisters.?
Whether negative comments affect her: ?In the beginning it was so hurtful. But I have to say, the other day I was reading some negative comments, and I was thinking they were really funny. So I guess they don?t anymore.?
Inspirations: ?I love what I do?I love fashion. Whatever you wear, it really sets the tone for the day. If I?m in sweatpants, I fully become that person?I?m lazy and kind of a mess. The opposite is also true; fashion can give you confidence. And things have definitely changed in the industry, mostly for the positive. We?re more accepting now. For me, someone like Ashley Graham, who loves her body and is always talking about it, is inspiring.
[From Glamour]
What?s weird is that I remember the rise of Kate Upton and how truly pearl-clutchy people were about what Upton meant for modeling. Yes, she?s blonde, ?wholesome-looking? with big boobs, but people really freaked out because she had hips and she didn?t look like a standard size-zero model. She became a de facto spokeswoman for ?curvy models? even though, looking back on it now, she really wasn?t that much bigger than regular models. And I do think Upton opened up the door for someone like Ashley Graham, and for a larger conversation about body diversity in fashion/modeling.
