Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jane Krakowski have each been a part of hit TV shows, but at heart they?re both Broadway Babes. They?ve known each other for decades, but haven?t yet worked together; even though Jane had a recurring guest role on Modern Family ? including one episode where she avoids being hit in a game of dodgeball by jumping into midair splits, it was something ? Jane and Jesse never shared a scene. Jesse just had Jane on his Dinner?s on Me podcast, where he recounted their meet-cute in the ?90s, and it really is cute! Jane was already working on Broadway while Jesse was a fan with big dreams. After watching Jane in a revival of Company, Jesse waited at the stage door. When she emerged, Jane immediately recognized Jesse, she just couldn?t place from where. I?ll let Jesse take it from here:
In 1995, Ferguson waited at the stage door to see Krakowski after a performance of a revival of Stephen Sondheim?s Company, in which she portrayed dim-witted flight attendant April. Ferguson had only moved to New York City the year prior. Though Ferguson was waiting as a fan, he was astonished to find Krakowski greeting him like an old friend.
?I was waiting by the stage door, and then you came out, and you come out and you walk right over to me, and you?re like, ?How are you? How have you been? I haven?t seen you in a while!?? Ferguson recounted to Krakowski when she guested on his podcast, Dinner?s on Me With Jesse Tyler Ferguson. ?And you give me a great big hug. Meanwhile, I?m thinking, ?I do not know this woman.? I mean, I know who you are. I was a fan. And I had already, like I?d been a fan of yours since Grand Hotel.?
?But I was like, oh my gosh, Jane?s hugging me,? he continued. ?And, and then you were, you said, ?I don?t remember, where did we meet? Where do we know you from?? And I said, ?I don?t know,? and so you started naming, ?Well, maybe we did a commercial together? and you were trying to like place it. And you?re like, ?Well, I don?t know. I?ll figure it out later, but it was good to see you. Thanks for coming.? And I was just sort of speechless.?
?I was very touchy feely,? Krakowski quipped in response to the memory.
Ferguson left the encounter feeling verklempt, but still utterly befuddled by how Krakowski recognised him. The answer finally came a few days later while Krakowski was on her coffee run.
?I was very taken by the encounter,? he finished. ?And so then fast forward, I don?t know, a week or two later, and I?m working my job at Starbucks on 79th and Broadway, and you come in, and you see me and you say, ?This is where I know you from!??
Ferguson was particularly touched that Krakowski then recognized him as a fellow actor trying to make his dreams come true. ?You went right into like, ?How are auditions going??? he added. ?I felt so seen by you because I was like, I don?t want to be a barista forever. I had such high dreams and hopes for myself. Having you ask me how things were going was really powerful, and that was one of the first times I realized the Broadway community is actually a community of people. I have such fond memories of you before I ever really knew you.?

Thank you Jane & Jesse, this was precisely the sweet, unadulterated tonic I needed this week! It?s nice to hear a story where a celeb is kind and gracious in real life. It makes me happy that each of them have found the TV success that?s allowed them to dip back into the theater community they clearly love. I haven?t had the privilege of seeing Jane live on stage (yet!), but I vividly remember seeing Jesse ? well before Modern Family. I was in high school visiting NYC and my mother and I went to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It?s a real gem of a show! Imaginative, and then sneaks up on you with pathos. And Jesse was utterly charming as Leaf Coneybear, an 11-year-old spelling bee contestant, clad in his makeshift cape. His big number was ?I?m Not That Smart,? and he just so adorably captured being in the head of a kid. Now someone please give these two musical theater kids a gig together!

Yay! Jane Krakowski had her baby! Jane and her fianc Robert Godley welcomed a son ?last Wednesday? (I?m assuming that means last week). They named him Bennett, which I really, really like. I like the full name, and I like the abbreviation - Ben. So cute! So he?ll be little Ben Godley. But - the funniest part about this birth announcement is that Jane and Robert make hilarious note of little Ben?s hair color. It cracked me up, because it?s just so? Jenna Maroney.
Jane Krakowski is officially a mama! The 30 Rock actress and her fianc Robert Godley welcomed a son named Bennett last Wednesday in NYC, her rep confirms exclusively to Us Weekly. The happy parents tell Us in a statement:
“Jane Krakowski and Robert Godley are thrilled to announce the arrival of their baby boy, Bennett Robert Godley, born Wednesday, April 13, in New York. Bennett, the first child for both Jane and Robert, weighed 7 lbs 12 ounces and is sporting blonde hair just like his mom!”
“Bennett is an amazing, healthy sweet boy and we are both just crazy in love with him,” Krakowski, 42, tells Us.
The Tony winner and clothing designer Godley became engaged in January 2010. Krakowski revealed her pregnancy to Us back in January.
“We waited a little while, I went behind the middle school, got pregnant, and now we’re announcing it to the world,” Krakowski joked at this year’s Golden Globes. 30 Rock’s 100th episode airs Thursday night on NBC.

It?s just like? ?SEE I?M A NATURAL BLONDE!? Yes, we see, Jane. Now fix your roots, hon. They?re black. Well, I?m sure that Jane was a natural blonde at some point, probably when she was very small. But she?s been a bottle blonde for a while.
Other than that mild amusement, I?m really happy for Jane and Robert. Congratulations to the happy family!

Enjoying a romantic Caribbean getaway, Jane Krakowski was spotted sporting a baby bump on the beach last Thursday (January 6).
The ?30 Rock? hottie sported a black swimsuit as she frolicked in the crystal clear waters with her fianc Robert Godley.
And while Jane hasn?t made an official announcement about her bun in the oven, the paparazzi definitely captured all the evidence they needed.
Jane and Robert, a British clothing designer, recently got engaged and it looks like it was just in time!

Singer/dancer/comic actress Jane Krakowski has been in the business since she was a little kid, but most people don’t know her by name. You may know her as Jenna, the self-absorbed, B-list actress always trying to make it onto the A-list, on the hit NBC comedy “30 Rock,” starring Tina Fey. Before that, she was consistently hilarious as Elaine, a slutty, attention-starved receptionist on “Ally McBeal.” Most people don’t know that she is an amazing singer with a Broadway pedigree. Anyway, Jane was recently asked about her role on “30 Rock” and what it’s like to be on that show.
You may know her as clueless Jenna on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock or remember her as scheming secretary Elaine on Ally McBeal. But you’ve never seen blonde beauty Jane Krakowski as Scarlet O’Hara in Gone with the Wind or King Kong’s squeeze Ann Darrow - until now! Jane, 40, recently starred in two digitally doctored webisodes at smoothanddreamy.com, reenacting those scenes from famous films with hilarious twists. Jane told Star all about it - and her 30 Rock co-stars!
Why did you star in these webisodes?
I’ve never done anything like this before, with so many digital effects. I mean, I’m kissing and talking to Clark Gable - it’s mad! We picked movies everyone knows, so when they go off kilter, you know it’s meant to be funny.
Does it ever bother you, how Jenna’s treated on 30 Rock?
I am a big fan of anything self-deprecating, and you have to have that sense of humor to be on 30 Rock. I love Jenna’s disillusionment with her level of show business success.
Tell us a 30 Rock Secret!
Tina Fey breaks out a stripper dance quite a bit, which makes me laugh. Tracy Morgan sings a lot. He knows so many songs. He can bust out a Michael McDonald tune or Christopher Cross’ “Sailing.” That’s a big one for him!
[From Star, print version, June 15, 2009]
It sounds like that set is a lot of fun. Tina Fey dancing like a stripper? I would pay to see that. And I believe Tracy Morgan did bust out some Michael McDonald on an episode of the show last season. I wonder if the writers added that because he was singing it around the set? My favorite Jenna-centered “30 Rock” episode was when she intentionally spiked Kenneth the NBC Page’s lunch with strawberries so he would have an allergic reaction, all because she had a crush on a hot EMT! There’s another episode where Liz, Tina Fey’s character, is invited to do a photo shoot with Jenna and ends up stealing the spotlight because she is willing to pose with a rubber chicken and Groucho Marx glasses. Good stuff from two very funny ladies!
