It?s Spooky Season, bitches, and Christina Ricci is serving us a dose of mysticism. On October 8, Christina debuted her own tarot deck and guide, called Cat Full of Spiders. Christina, who is leaning into her reputation as the Xennial ?goth? queen (Gen X, you guys have Winona Ryder, we get to claim Christina!), designed the cards with the help of her husband, Mark Hampton, and California artist Felipe Flores, as well as the ?wisdom? of tarot expert Minerva Siegel. The deck, which has 78 cards and comes with a guidebook to explain each card, is supposed to be a ?surrealist dive? into Christina?s ?cinematic subconscious.? To celebrate the tarot?s launch, Christina gave People an exclusive interview to talk about her inspiration behind her love of tarot, her acting legacy, and why she wanted put out her own deck.
She feels lucky to play such awesome women: I just feel like I kind of lucked out, Ricci tells PEOPLE exclusively when asked about her experience portraying such unique roles. I was lucky as a young person at that time [with] where our culture was to play really interesting roles, interesting young girls and then interesting women.
On her new tarot deck: Launching on Oct. 8, just in time for the spookiest season of the year, Cat Full of Spiders is a surrealist dive into Riccis cinematic subconscious, featuring 78 cards and a specially curated guidebook explaining each tarot card. It also includes fun, simple tarot spreads for beginners who want to experiment with an easy reading.
Magic is real: Although the Yellowjackets star first discovered tarot cards on the set of Now and Then ? when her character (Roberta) visits a psychic with her friends ? her relationship with mysticism goes much deeper. My perspective on pretty much all things mystical is that there is real magic in the world. Most of it is sort of grounded and nature-based, she says. I think all of the magic that comes from something like tarot has a lot to do with the person asking the questions.
What the tarot means to her: Tarot for me feels like an incredible instrument to use your self-knowledge, self-reflection capabilities [and] your intuition, Ricci says. You come as yourself with your full journey behind you, all the things youve collected in your life emotionally and experientially.
?You exist in the context of all in which you live,? etc: The way you interpret the card in relation to your question has everything to do with who you are and all of your experiences ? all the spiders that youve swallowed, she says. Riccis ability to intertwine such creative and profound metaphors with mystical elements showcases not just her creativity but her deep understanding of the human experience.
Her tarot deck reflects herself: The minor arcana are all younger versions of me because all of those things have come from my subconscious and have all been expressions of some version of myself. Thats why there are a lot of little nods and references to characters Ive played.
The importance of the individual: This idea also speaks to what I want to do as a humanitarian [which is] pointing out to people that each individual is so much more than what you see in front of them. The depths of our minds, our subconscious, are so incredible and so rich, and just the idea that this sort of theme reinforces the importance of the individual over the group.
She?s a true Aquarius: I do feel like Im a good match for an Aquarius, Ricci says when asked if she resonates with her zodiac sign. I care a lot about humanity, but more at the level of individuals. I have some passions and themes in my life that have a lot to do with my interest in humanity.
A highly intellectual Air sign, Aquarius is governed by revolutionary Uranus, the planet of rebellion, individual freedom and unexpected change. Everything from the intriguing roles Ricci has portrayed to her innate connection with the supernatural goes hand-in-hand with Aquarius unique essence. I dont really fit into any kind of stereotype and I very much do things my own way, and it totally makes sense to me, [even when] other people think its crazy, she adds.
[From People]
This is awesome! I love that Christina is doing something like this, and not some quick money grab that?s not authentic to her own self. I?m also a very firm believer that there is ?real magic? in this world, and I?m not talking about the kind where you pull a rabbit out of a hat. I think there are too many stories from every different belief system to deny that there isn?t something else out there. Anyway, I?m also an Aquarius (different years, but my birthday is four days before hers), so she had me at that! That said, I?m really intrigued by her cards. I do not have any extensive experience in tarot reading, but on a whim last year, I bought a deck from Barnes & Noble. I read the instructions and watched a few videos, but I am still a little confused about all of it, so if anyone has any tips, I?d love to hear them.
Oh, and I absolutely love that Christina mentions that she got her tarot start while filming Now and Then. That movie, which I rewatched a year or so ago and it *totally* holds up, is a huge part of my own personal coming-of-age story, too. I mean, what Elder Millennial doesn?t remember where they were when they first saw that Christina/Devon Sawa kiss scene? And yes, the exact same can also be said of their Casper scene. Bah, both of those movies gave me some magical awakenings, if you know what I mean.

| Christina Ricci thinks it's 'elitist' to question Andrea Riseborough's Oscar nom | Added 660 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I feel so removed from this simmering Andrea Riseborough Oscar nomination controversy, honestly. Like, I absolutely believe Viola Davis was robbed of a nom for The Woman King, and I?m open to the conversation that Danielle Deadwyler was also robbed of a nom for Till. Instead of choosing to support two Black actresses, Academy voters decided to recognize Andrea Riseborough and Ana De Armas. It?s now clear that the Academy?s white women voters decided to throw all of their weight behind Riseborough, and it?s also clear that some of AMPAS?s campaign rules were broken in the process. And after all that? I just feel like ?and?? At this point, I do expect Academy voters to ignore Black excellence. I?m not okay with racism, I just expect it, because we literally go through it every year. The only thing different this year is that there?s a clear line of collusion among A-list white actresses going out of their way to throw all of their support behind Riseborough and not Davis or Deadwyler. Speaking of, Christina Ricci had some thoughts:
Christina Ricci is calling out the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Yellowjackets star, 42, defended first-time Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough against the Academys very backward review of her surprise Best Actress nod for indie favorite To Leslie, following a last-minute grassroots campaign.
Seems hilarious that the surprise nomination (meaning tons of money wasnt spent to position this actress) of a legitimately brilliant performance is being met with an investigation, Ricci wrote Friday in a since-deleted statement on Instagram, according to Deadline and The Independent. She continued: So its only the films and actors that can afford the campaigns that deserve recognition? Feels elitist and exclusive and frankly very backward to me.
A rep for Ricci did not immediately respond to PEOPLEs request for additional comment.
Ricci explained in the IG post that Riseborough, 41, likely had nothing to do with the campaigning for To Leslie, as actors rarely do, yet now her nomination will be tainted by this.
If its taken away, shame on them, Ricci concluded in the post.
The Wednesday actress statement comes after the Academy said in a statement that they support genuine grassroots campaigns for outstanding performances but have opened a review after the nomination raised complaints.
[From People]
As Puck pointed out last week, this wasn?t a no-money grassroots effort though there was money behind it. Someone was paying for those Oscar-voter screenings, someone was paying for the catering, someone was providing material support for those ?grassroots? tweets and social media posts. Just because no one was taking ads out in Variety, doesn?t mean that there wasn?t money and a hell of a lot of coordination behind it. And no one is saying (at least not that I?ve seen) that Riseborough should be stripped of her nomination. The worst that could happen (realistically) is maybe Mary Mccormack and Riseborough get a temporary ban on Oscar campaigning for a few years.
Something I?ve been thinking about too is Jennifer Aniston?s failed attempt to do exactly what Riseborough accomplished remember Aniston?s performance in the indie drama Cake? She got SAG and Golden Globe noms and she hired seasoned Oscar campaign consultants and she got her A-list white-woman friends to host screenings and rave about her in interviews? and then the Academy snubbed her for a nomination. Aniston walked so Riseborough could run.

Christina Ricci is enjoying something of a professional and personal renaissance these days. She?s booked and busy, with roles on Yellowjackets, Netflix?s Wednesday Adams show, and a series about Zelda Fitzgerald. She survived her marriage to and divorce from her abusive first husband. She remarried and she had another child. Ricci talked about all of this and more with the Times of London and she comes across really well in this piece. Mature, interesting, still a little bit of a nihilistic goth kid. Some highlights:
She loves the Wednesday Adams character: ?The thing that?s most important about Wednesday, and why I think it is important for every generation to have a version of her, is that this is a girl who does not feel the pressures of our pop culture, of our society. She is a person who respects herself, who values herself for exactly who she is. She never conforms, never folds, but is always dignified and fair.?
The conversations about her body in the ?90s: ?I didn?t enjoy that. I never wore clothes to garner sexual attention, because I have always felt that kind of attention in a very threatening way.?
She really was nihilistic in her teens & 20s: ?I just felt no passion, no care. I made a lot of important decisions completely dispassionately, which ended up being a problem later ? so, note to anyone, don?t make important life decisions when you are going through periods of nihilism. But really it was a reaction. It was exhausting to be so upset and in pain all the time.?
Welcoming her son Freddie in her 30s: ?My son?s birth really broke my nihilism and it was a pretty surprising change. I thought I would really love him and feel a lot of emotions towards him. I didn?t realise that it is all or nothing.?
Being in an abusive marriage: ?I think with those things . . . Well, I can?t speak for everyone, but it took me a long time to admit to myself what was going on, what it should be called. Denial is very strong. Of course you don?t want to accept that the worst possible thing is happening and that you put yourself in that situation. So it took me a really long time to realise that.?
She loves fashion & jewelry but she?s sold a lot of stuff: ?I burnt a lot of money on bags and shoes and jewellery when I was younger. You know, coming from no money and suddenly having money . . . So that was a mistake. I?ve learnt to be a little bit more intelligent about my investments. I don?t buy a ton of fashion. There are certain things that I have collected, certain bags. I had quite a Chanel-handbag collection for a while, but I sold a lot of things?. certain traumas in life go along with financial traumas, extended court situations, custody situations, fighting restraining orders. Having said that, I?m absolutely doing fine, there?s no issue. But I learnt to use these investment pieces in different ways. I also had a Chanel Fine Jewellery collection that I put to good use.?
She doesn?t want her abusive first marriage to define her: ?I think it is important to say that I don?t feel like a victim in any way. I don?t feel sorry for myself. I don?t even feel like saying, ?Well, it?s been a really hard road for me.? Everybody has their personal issues and this has been mine, and it has been about finding my own self-worth and position and strength and power. I tell my story only because I know that, having been in situations like the one I was in, I searched for success stories, stories of people who could get out, could get over it and just be OK. And so the fact that now I am in this place where I am so much better than OK, that is my impetus for being honest about it. Today I am not ready to talk about it in more depth, but I do think it is important that we have examples for other women ? that, as scary as it is, changing your life and saving yourself is the only choice.?
[From The Times]
She drops some breadcrumbs within the interview which led me to believe that no one ever role-modeled healthy relationships in her childhood. As in, her parents? marriage was abusive and they emotionally abused her as well. It seems like she?s taken some time to unlearn toxic patterns and understand what has happened to her throughout her life. The fact that she sold her handbags and Chanel jewelry to escape her abusive marriage too? I feel so bad for her, but it?s amazing that she had that safety net in the possessions she collected over the years. She stresses that she?s doing fine now financially. Maybe she?ll start collecting purses and jewelry again.

| Christina Ricci got a protective order against her husband James Heerdegen | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

We don?t gossip much about Christina Ricci. She was a child actor who managed to transition into a solid career as an adult, and she works consistently on a wide variety of film and TV projects. I don?t even remember the last time we even had cause to talk about her, good or bad, and I didn?t remember that she was married. Ricci married James Heerdegen in 2013, and they have a five-year-old son named Freddie. Christina just got an emergency protective order against James.
Christina Ricci was granted an emergency protective order against her husband, James Heerdegen, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal.
After the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call to the 40-year-old actress? Woodland Hills, California, home on June 25, Ricci was granted an emergency protective order against Heerdegen, prohibiting any contact between the spouses. The film producer was not arrested.
?On 06/25/20, around 9:20 a.m., officers responded to a domestic battery radio call,? the LAPD PIO confirmed to Us, adding ?a report was completed.?
Ricci and Heerdegen, who share 5-year-old son Freddie, met on the set of the short-lived ABC series Pan Am in 2011 but didn?t start dating until the following year. Us broke the news of their engagement in 2013.
[From Us Weekly]
As I was looking through the photos of Ricci and Heerdegen, I was struck by the difference in their sizes. I know that domestic violence isn?t about size and strength, but it just stuck out to me. And it?s terrible that she likely called the cops, reported the crime of domestic violence and that he still wasn?t fking arrested. At least the court gave her an emergency protective order. I hope that she?s ok and that she has a lot of support from family and friends.

Christina Ricci has carved out a lifelong career as an actress. I’ve always been impressed at how she transitioned from child to adult star without much drama. She’s one of the good ones. She’s had a few rocky periods in her love life, but who hasn’t? Christina married James Heerdegen last year — they met on the Pan Am set, which was one of the only good things to come from that show. Now she’s pregnant. Us has a photo of her bump, and Christina’s rep confirms the happy news:
She’s eating for two! Christina Ricci is pregnant and expecting her first child with husband James Heerdegen, her rep confirms to Us Weekly.
The Now and Then alum, 34, gave a first glance of her noticeable baby bump as she arrived with Heerdegen at LAX airport in L.A. on Friday, May 23. The mom-to-be wore leggings and an oversized long-sleeve shirt. She accessorized with a brown belt placed below her chest, which accentuated her growing belly.
Us broke news last October that the actress and dolly grip Heerdegen tied the knot on the Upper East Side in NYC. The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at the Harold Pratt House and Peterson Hall and were feted by close family and friends.
Ricci wore a Givenchy Haute Couture high neck dress with beaded detail on her special day. Guests were treated to a cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, and a candy table during dessert.
Ricci and Heerdegen first met on the ABC series Pan Am in 2011.
[From Us Weekly]
Christina looks like she’s five or six months along, which means she got pregnant pretty fast after her fall wedding. I like how she didn’t make a formal announcement until after photos revealed the undeniable. She’s not going to be one of those celebrities who sell every stage of pregnancy and birth to the highest bidder. Those covers are great fun, but it’s refreshing to see a different approach. She’ll probably Instagram baby’s first photo.
The “eating for two” comment from Us is so sappy and predictable, but I have to wonder if Christina is enjoying her McDonalds addiction twice as hard now. She once admitted to eating there three times in one day. That’s pretty extreme, but if she likes it, why not?

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Christina Ricci, and it looks like the long layoff did her some good. Here she is at the Ninth Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, making me wonder where Christina’s been all this time. And more importantly, whether she’s given any more thought to sleeping with a blogger.
