Jimmy Kimmel is in New York this week, specifically Brooklyn. He broadcasts from the East Coast for a week at least once a year, which is always fun because of the guests he can get who are working in New York. Kelly Ripa joined Jimmy (after he appeared on her show, Live with Kelly and Ryan) and she talked about ? wait for it ? her kids. Mainly she talked about her oldest child, Michael, who attends New York University and lives in Brooklyn. According to Kelly, Michael is footing his own bill for room and board and it?s proving a challenge as it?s leaving him ?chronically poor.?
If you don?t have time for the whole interview, here?s the part about Michael?s financial straits:
Your son lives in Brooklyn now. How?s that going for him? Does he like it?
You know, I think he loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent and he is chronically poor. I don?t think he ever experienced extreme poverty like now. It?s very funny, my parents, always give my kids, for years, for Halloween, they mail them an envelope with $20 in it. For years, I?m like, ?Mom, Dad, you don?t have to do that. They don?t appreciate it, don?t worry about it.? For years, my kids sort of ignored the $20 and Mark and I would say, ?you know, when we were kids, $20 would take you through weeks and weeks of life.? But now that he?s living on his own, he?s called like three times, ?Halloween envelope arrive?? He?s like, tak(ing) the subway, to get his Halloween envelope. Just so he can have electricity.
At the risk of being a Kelly apologist, I do think she?s being sarcastic calling him ?chronically poor? and experiencing ?extreme poverty.? And Michael?s neighborhood, Bushwick, is listed as one of the more affordable options in Brooklyn. But let?s face it, the average rent is still almost $3K/month so let?s be real, the kid?s not slumming it. But if I?m reading between the lines, which I think is what Kelly is hoping we will do, Michael is on a budget now and he?s learning to live within it. I doubt Michael has a job, I?m sure his parents pay his rent and give him a monthly allowance, but honestly, even that?s admirable for a celebrity kid. We all know his parents will bail him out if things become too dire, but forcing him to learn how to stretch a dollar by not paying his gas bill for him is a step in the right direction. Although I do agree with Jimmy, who gets $20 for Halloween?
As mentioned, Michael goes to NYU?s Tisch School of Arts. He asked Kelly to be a producer on one of his school projects, an experimental film. Kelly posted the cute Instagram below, but the best part of the story is about the professor for whom Michael was doing the project, Chris Goutman. Kelly said Chris was the casting director who directed Mark Consuelos and Kelly?s screen test on All My Children and worked with them on the soap for 11 years. So when Michael was touring the various film schools to determine which he wanted to attend, Chris singled him out and said, ?You have to go here because I am literally the reason you exist.? I love that story but I hope not all kids have to decide their futures based on how they got here, otherwise mine are working in a Jameson?s distillery.

Kelly Ripa?s birthday was yesterday so happy belated, Kelly! Last month, we talked about Kelly telling her daughter, Lola, that she didn?t want her to come home from college except for holidays. Kelly explained that learning how to work through problems on your own was a part of becoming an adult. We had a thoughtful discussion in the comments, offering varying viewpoints and experiences and we all earned our parenting philosophy badges for the day. It turns out, none of it was necessary! Whether Kelly?s changed the locks isn?t important to Lola because she doesn?t want to be there. Anderson Cooper guest hosted Live with Kelly and Ryan on Tuesday and he asked Kelly about taking Lola to school. He asked if Kelly had actually gone with Lola to drop her off and Kelly said Lola couldn?t wait to get out of the car.
Meant to be! Kelly Ripa?s 18-year-old daughter, Lola, is thriving one month after starting her freshman year at New York University.
?She loves it,? the Live With Kelly and Ryan cohost, 49, said on the Tuesday, October 1, episode of the ABC show. ?When she was a little girl, like, 3 years old, she used to play dorm room in her bedroom. First she played sleepaway camp, then she played dorm room. So this is, like, a girl who was meant to live away from us. She was born to live outside of the house!?
The Emmy winner went on to tell her guest cohost Anderson Cooper that she didn?t really ?drop? Lola off. ?She jumped out of a moving car and was like, ?Bye, bye, bye,?? the New Jersey native explained.
[From Us]
I think I had a similar reaction when I went to college and now I feel a little bad *adds to list of things I need to apologize to my parents for*. But like Kelly said, I couldn?t wait to get to college and live a college life, it had nothing to do with my folks. But it does put her earlier discussion of not wanting Lola to come home in a humorous light. Like, Lola?s responding to all her parents texts with ?New digs, who dis?? Don?t worry, Kelly, they all find a reason to come home sometime only it usually involves $$$ or dirty laundry.
Since it was Kelly?s bday on Wednesday, Kelly posted a few Instagram stories of her husband and kids gifts to her, which all consisted of flowers, I guess. Her husband, Mark Consuelos, filled their home with gardenias, which looked beautiful, but I?d worry about the smell being overpowering in that quantity. But what was better than Kelly?s birthday IG stories was the post Mark put on his own IG for Kelly?s birthday. Mark, who I don?t know if I?ve ever admitted to y?all, I find absolutely gorgeous, posted a series of sweet pics of Kelly throughout the years. But it was his caption that tickled me the most:
Happy Birthday to my Fave..I?m really glad you were born.. Because let?s face it, if you weren?t , I would?ve been married 3 or 4 times by now. Which would?ve been really expensive, not to mention the super tense parent teacher conferences and all the awkward blended family holiday/vacations. Anyway, happy birthday sweetie.
Mmm, Mark is hot, devoted and funny? Hey, if Lola?s room isn?t being used?

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelo like to throw their kids under the bus when they need an amusing anecdote or sound bite. Kelly?s practically made a career out of it. Oddly, the subject mainly seems to be her only daughter, Lola (Lola is the middle child, she has an older and younger brother). The latest ?That Wacky Lola? story comes at the cost of Lola looking beautiful for her senior prom. Lola, who is 18, graduated from high school this year and while Kelly was on Jerry O?Connell?s chat show, the Jerry O? Show, Jerry showed Lola?s prom photo (above). Only Kelly wanted to make sure that everyone saw Lola?s low neckline in the shot and then blamed Lola for having it altered behind her parents backs:
Now is this at prom or is this at graduation?
No, that?s prom. That?s the prom dress that we had made and then she had altered behind out backs. So that?s why the girls are fully on display. Everybody came down the stairs together ? and I just mean Lola.
I don?t have any problem with the neckline, I think it keeps with the classic design of the gown. But going off that photo, I do think the dress was over-altered. Fabric-pulling aside, the color is gorgeous and Lola looks beautiful. Honestly, I?m not sure I would have noted Lola?s dcolletage if Kelly hadn?t called attention to it. For those who haven?t watched the clip, the part I excerpted takes place right after Jerry and Kelly discuss the show Euphoria and wonder aloud if it?s a good representation of what high school is like today. The reason I mention that is because I asked I the same thing when I saw Euphoria. Like, should I be watching it like a PSA? So I wonder if Kelly was actually trying to come off as a more concerned parent with the lowcut dress comment. Probably not but the timing was coincidental.
Kelly and Jerry also discussed cell phones. CB covered Jerry and Rebecca Romijn?s no cell phone policy. Apparently, it was Kelly who told Jerry to hold off ?as long as possible? because she said that as soon as the kids get cell phones, their grades will take a nose dive. Like CB, we did not have the grade problem with our kids. But, like Kelly said in the clip, we have another problem: they never answer them, text or voice, so what?s the point?

The Cut has one of their how I get it done pieces with Kelly Ripa. Those are so interesting, I just bookmarked that section. Around the time Ryan Seacrest joined Kelly as co-host in early 2017, I stopped paying attention to her. Thats the highest level of being fed up with a celebrity, ignoring them. She had a long process of choosing a co-host, with so much drama. Then she ended up with a known abuser. Maybe this is a case of women being blamed for trash men. Those men are often the most superficially charming, especially when they want something from you. You dont get to Ryan Seacrests level without kissing a lot of asses.
Kellys interview is interesting. I love hearing about peoples routines as Im all about schedules and processes. I was surprised that she wakes up so late, around 5:30 to 6:00. I expected to hear 4:00 or 4:30 am. (My alarm is set to 5:00 but I usually wake up at 4:30.) She showers and does half her makeup before leaving the house. She works out in the afternoon, around 3 to 5, and I would assume she does one of those half-showers afterwards where she doesnt wash her hair. The most interesting part, to me, was that she spends her down time watching Hoarders with her kids. She has three children with Mark Consuelos: Michael, 21, who is almost done with college, Lola, 17, and Joaquin, 15. Mark is away filming Riverdale so they Facetime a lot.
How she exercises
And I can be honest: My body looks like Peter Pan no matter what I do. I?ve never been a va-va-voom woman. I like to take AKT ? which is cardio-based dance classes ? about four to five days a week between 3 and 5 p.m. And I like to do SoulCycle on the weekends. In the summer, I like to run in Central Park because I think it?s so gorgeous.
She watches Hoarders with her kids
I stopped being able to help my kids with their homework at around fifth grade. I make dinner or we order in, depending on the night of the week. Joaquin is the last to eat so I?m reheating his dinner. Lately we?ve had this bizarre routine of watching Hoarders. It used to be on A&E but the kids found it on Netflix. They?ll climb into bed with me and we watch a couple episodes. Then I like to read interesting novels. Right now, I?m reading Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott. It?s about a bunch of doctors trying to get coveted assignments for their Ph.Ds.
Shes great at editing
I discovered four years ago that I?m really good at proofreading college essays. I think kids now are so used to texting and having autocorrect attached to their computers and phones that they don?t pay attention to the punctuation they missed or little tiny details that a good old-fashioned red pen and a mom brain can find for them.
[From The Cut]
I can definitely relate to not being able to help my kid with his homework, especially math, starting around fifth grade. Sometimes I can help by reading questions from the book, but I wouldnt know the content unless I had the material in front of me. I don?t miss having to memorize and learn so much for school. Like Kelly Im good at editing, though! Thats one thing I can definitely help with.
As for Kelly?s body, shes so fit because of her routine and how much she loves to work out. She could be more voluptuous if she ate more and exercised less but that probably seems impossible as she enjoys it and its such a part of her day. Also I pegged her for a morning workout person. That must be why I expected her to wake up earlier.
Oh and I cant watch Hoarders! Ive tried and images of people living with layers of dog poop on the floor still haunt me.

For those of you who don?t believe in love at first sight, Kelly Ripa has a little story for you one that just might change your mind. The 47-year-old host of Live with Kelly and Ryan sat down for an interview with Bruce Bozzi for SiriusXM. During the interview, Kelly recalled the first time she saw her spouse of 22 years, actor Mark Consuelos. She revealed that ?I saw my husband in a photograph before I saw him. I knew when I saw his photograph.?
Back in the early 1990s, Kelly was an actress on All My Children, playing Hayley Vaughn, and was assisting the casting director with finding the actor to play her on-screen suitor, Mateo Santos. Apparently the casting process was proving difficult and the show had auditioned every Latino actor in the city and around the city and then California. And then all of a sudden, Judy Blye Wilson, who was the casting director at All My Children, said, ?I found him.?? She went on to explain:
?[Judy] showed me his picture and, Bruce, I?m not this person, at that point I was not a hopeless romantic. I never thought about getting married, it never occurred to me that I would grow old with someone. I just thought I would be living my single girl life in the city and sort of like moving. You know, if I needed to up and move to a location, I could do that. I had no responsibilities and I was earning a good living on this soap opera because I was there for almost seven years before Mark got there. ? I was a baby when I got the job.?
?When I saw him, the photograph of him, I saw my entire future with him flash before ? like I saw it,? said Ripa. ?And I don?t believe in any of that and now I do because of that moment.?
[From Lunch with Bruce via PEOPLE]
Obviously, Mark got the part, the couple romanced each other on and off screen and were wed in 1996. They now have three children ? sons Michael, 21, and Joaquin, 15, and daughter Lola, 17.
That?s quite a romantic yarn, isn?t it? With filters and catfishing, it would be hard for anyone in the online dating age to fall in love with a photograph. Ive had many first and last dates with men who had great photos, but didn?t match those with looks or personality. Fortunately, the last one looked just like his pictures, and I can only hope our relationship will be as strong as Kelly and Mark?s.
Feliz Aniversario lover! 22 years. You?re a human roller coaster that luckily I?m tall enough to ride. @instasuelos ?? ????????

| Kelly Ripa had a Botox mishap, says she couldn't smile for six months | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kelly Ripa is still looking for a cohost for Live following Michael Strahan’s exit in May, which seems like a very long, dragged out process. I know that they expect the new person to last a handful of years but they had strong candidates months ago and instead of picking one they’re going for ratings and headlines. This seems to be working somewhat, so I guess I can’t blame them.
Anyway the latest guy to do a good job is Richard Curtis, a 30 year-old high school teacher and father from Pennsylvania. Curtis won a social media contest to co-host and was asked back for the second time on Monday, before the country went to hell. He’s one of over 43 temporary cohosts so far according to Fox411, which quotes an expert who speculates that producers are prioritizing keeping Kelly happy after going behind her back to relocate Strahan to GMA. A rep for Live with Kelly says that the search is going well however.
Meanwhile Kelly told a story this week about the pitfalls of Botox. She used to rave about how much she loved Botox and claimed it makes makeup application fast and easy, but that was before a botched application. On Wednesday’s show she told that day’s co-host Megyn Kelly that she couldn’t smile for about six months last year due to Botox.
The topic came up during a discussion with guest co-host Megyn Kelly about having a ?bad side.?
?I?m going to tell you a story I?ve never told anyone,? said Ripa, 46. ?I got bad Botox about ? what was it, a year ago? And it was bad. It did something to my good side, so then I had two bad sides. I?m not kidding!?
The mother of three insisted she wouldn?t ?talk about it beyond that? but said the situation has improved somewhat.
?I?m starting to look myself again, but there was about a six-month period where people were like: ?What?s wrong with Kelly? She doesn?t smile anymore,? ? said Ripa. ?And I was like: ?I am smiling!? ?
?Being in the public eye is so fun, isn?t it?? said her co-host Kelly, 45, with a laugh.
[From People]
See this is why I don’t want to get Botox yet, because you only notice the bad Botox. I’m not ruling it out, but I’m scared that something like this will happen to me and I’ll up with a wonky smile or a squinty eye. Plus it makes you less empathic because you can’t make a sympathetic face and I’m already a cold bitch. I didn’t notice anything off about Kelly but now that I’m looking at photos of her from last year I see it. Imagine if that was your own face in the mirror and all of a sudden you had to deal with that for months. It’s worse than a bad haircut.
This is Kelly in October and November of last year and I think I see what she was saying. She’s kind of grimacing and her smile isn’t the same on both sides.

| US: Kelly Ripa may quit Live if she doesn't get one of her friends to co-host | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
I saw Live with Michael and Kelly yesterday and while I haven’t watched this show enough to have a frame of reference it looked like things were back to normal. They came out holding hands, they were joking around about eyelash extensions and butt padding and they seemed to have a great rapport. At times Kelly looked uncomfortable but you had to be looking for it. If it wasn’t for all the stories you wouldn’t know that they were having issues and that Michael is leaving in just two weeks. They never brought it up. He’s leaving early though, whether that was due to Kelly throwing a fit or just an executive decision it’s hard to tell. Kelly’s issue seems to be more with the ABC executives who kept her out of the loop than with Michael, who was just following orders not to tell her. Kelly is said to still be playing hardball at ABC after staying away for five days. Us is reporting that she’s threatened to quit if she doesn’t get one of her friends, either Anderson Cooper or Andy Cohen, to cohost.
A source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly that Kelly Ripa “is talking about leaving” Live with Kelly and Michael after Michael Strahan announced his exit from the show for a permanent gig at Good Morning America. (Strahan was originally supposed to make the move in September, but the show announced this week that his last day on air will be May 13.)
Although Ripa, 45, returned to the show after a four-episode hiatus Tuesday, April 26, the source says she still feels “blindsided” that producers and Strahan, 44, broke the news to her just moments before the April 19 public announcement: “She considers it a sign of disrespect.”
Now, the 15-year Live vet will wait to see who producers seat beside her to help weigh her options for the future. They’re considering actor Jerry O’Connell, says the source, but Ripa “hopes Anderson Cooper or Andy Cohen gets the job.”
Unfortunately, it’s not likely that one of Ripa’s pals will come aboard, due to their prior commitments (the CNN journalist is covering the election and the Watch What Happens Live host is under contract with Bravo), so the show may not go on for Ripa. Says the source, “Unless one of them can come on, she doesn’t really want to do it.”
[From US Magazine]
This is likely a negotiation tactic to make sure that Kelly has a say this time, because if she really means this it’s short-sighted for a couple of reason. One, just because she’s good friends with someone (she has known both Cooper and Cohen for years) does not mean they’re the best choice for a co-host. Working with a friend can bring up all sorts of problems you wouldn’t have with someone you only know in a professional capacity. And two, both of those guys are super busy with their own shows as US points out. This sounds like Kelly is just trying to get her way, but keep in mind that it could also be a planted story meant to make her look like a diva. We know the network is not above that, think of how TMZ got the news that Kelly’s finances are overextended.
People reports that both Cooper and Cohen will come on as guest hosts following Strahan’s exit and that additional hosts will include Josh Groban and Seth Meyers. It’s unknown when a permanent host will be chosen and a source tells People “They’re prepared to keep cycling people through even if its not resolved by the fall.”
E! Online has a think piece about this while debacle. (I really like their editorials lately, they seem to be going in a new direction.) They have quotes from a media expert who says that the way this has played out so far “it looks like Kelly won” against the network. Their source also gives ABC credit for letting Kelly say her piece at the beginning of her return show and not trying to censor or pre-tape her remarks. Also, Bellamy Young of “Scandal” was a guest on Tuesday’s show and she said that although there was tension backstage it all felt completely professional during her interview.
Kathy Lee Gifford, who was replaced by Kelly on Live 15 years ago after she put in 15 years with Regis, has some advice for Kelly which sounds like delicious shade. She said “Be totally professional. I would keep anything that is going on between you private. It?s nobody?s business but yours. But always, always be professional at your job. That?s what you?re hired to do.” You know Kathy does not consider it professional to take a bunch of days off work and then insist that a friend be hired to work with you.

| Open Post: Kelly Ripa returns to 'Live,' Strahan is taking the high road (Update) | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Consider this your open thread for Kelly Ripa’s return to Live this morning. I’ll be updating with the notable details as they happen and we’ll probably have another full post with analysis tomorrow. Strahan’s controversial exit and Ripa’s hurt feelings have created the most press that Live has received in years. They’ll surely have the highest ratings today as we try to see how Ripa and Strahan handle co-hosting duties. My prediction is that they’ll address things briefly, claim that everything is fine now and then move on. They’ve been working together for four years after all. We’ve heard that they’ve disliked each other for some time, and that even prior to Strahan’s announcement they didn’t talk off camera. These two are used to being fake nice for the show, and they’ll suck it up and continue to do that until Strahan runs out the clock and leaves for Good Morning America in September.
Strahan was at an event yesterday where he talked about his move to GMA. It sounds like he’s shading Ripa for giving so much information to the press, but he talks around it.
?To me it’s a testament, not just to me, because as I said, everything is a team. It’s a testament to Live, from [producer Michael] Gelman to Kelly [Ripa], for them to say, ?You are good enough to be here? and then I go there, and I do well enough to get a job for two days at GMA and then they say, ?Well, you know what, we really could use you here.? It’s a team. It’s ABC. It’s a group. It’s a family,? Strahan said of his exit, which is planned for September. ?So for me, I don’t look at it as if I’m leaving one show in a lurch. I look at it as if, ?You know what? I’m needed in this part of the family for now.? ? I think it’s just unfortunate how everything seems to be for a lot of people outside, because everyone has an opinion, without understanding what’s going on and that’s why. ? You take the high road. If you argue with somebody who doesn’t know what they’re talking about and people see you arguing they don’t know who’s the fool.?
[From US Magazine]
It may seem like a family to Strahan because he’s been kept in the loop while Kelly had to wait until right before the public was told to learn about it. I don’t understand why they did that to her, but the fact that she wasn’t talking to Strahan might have had something to do with it. In no way am I blaming her for the way she was treated, and I do think she should have been brought into talks much earlier, as we discussed yesterday.
Kelly made her point to the brass, she’s proven that she’s a valuable asset to ABC and we’ll have to see how it plays out today and in the next few months. Will they keep Live on the schedule or replace it with an hour more of GMA?
Update: Kelly came on in a red jumpsuit. She opened with “Our long national nightmare is over” and then she joked that there were snipers in the audience with tranquilizer darts if she went too far off message. She thanked everyone for their support and said she took some time off to gather her thoughts. “After 26 years with this company, I earned the right [to do that].” She said she gained perspective and that this has “started a much bigger conversation about communication and consideration and most importantly respect in the workplace. I don’t consider this just a workplace this is my second home.” She also talked about how their team is devoted to one another, said “we are family” and that “apologies have been made.”
She stated that “Our parent company has assured me that Live is a priority.
