Over the holidays last December my friend had a yen for watching the 1999 tv version of Annie. We?re not even ten minutes into the movie and who pops up as orphan Molly but a baby, doe-eyed Sarah Hyland! She really has been working forever. Both her parents are New York actors, so that must have helped her get started. Her resume is doubly impressive considering the extensive health issues she?s had her whole life. Born with kidney dysplasia, a condition where the kidneys don?t form properly in utero, she?s had more than 16 surgeries, two of which were kidney transplants. In 2012 her father donated a kidney, only for her body to reject it and in 2017 she had another transplant, this time donated by her brother (which *knock wood* has taken). While appearing on the Dinner?s on Me podcast, hosted by her Modern Family costar (and wedding officiant) Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sarah spoke more candidly about the pain she was in when they were shooting the series:
I don?t know how she did this: ?There are some episodes of Modern Family where I do not remember filming because I was asleep. Dead-ass asleep,? she said. ?I was not able to be awake for eight hours at a time. I was so exhausted all the time,? she explained, noting that she was only able to stay awake from the very moments scenes began and finished shooting. ?I?d be on the set, we?d be filming, I?d be dead asleep, my head on the table, I would hear, ?and?? and my head would go up.?
F?ing high heels: She and Jesse went on to recall a specific day that they were shooting a scene that involved her pushing a car. Jesse begins, ?I remember a day when we were shooting?I don?t remember the specifics of the scene, and you might not remember it because I think you were in an intense amount of pain that day?but we were pushing a car?? In response, Sarah revealed that she actually had gout in her foot at the time, which meant that she had to use crutches on set. ?I was on dialysis, I had gout. It was wild,? she said, before later explaining that she got gout after being put on medication for retaining too much water. Then, Sarah revealed that despite being in the ?most excruciating pain,? the Modern Family producers ?insisted? that she film the scene in high heels. ?They put me in high heels,? she said. ?They had not established my outfit yet, and they insisted that I was wearing heels.?
Jesse took care of her: ?I remember there was a day on set? I think I was in rejection on dialysis, and I was just in an extreme amount of pain,? she said. Explaining that ?there wasn?t enough time? to go back to her trailer in between takes, Sarah said, ?But I also could barely move. So I found a little corner, I sat in a chair? and I was just kind of curled up into a ball.? Sarah told Jesse, ?You came up to me and very lightly touched me on the shoulder? You were just like, ?Can I get you anything? Is there anything you need? I?m here for you.??
Her coping was to ignore the pain: Noting that she has a ?workhorse mentality,? which she said she gets from her parents, Sarah went on, ?You don?t know when the next job is going to be, and if you don?t work hard and if you complain, you get the boot. So for me, I ignored how I felt.? And Sarah added that while this mentality was ?most definitely not healthy,? it was ?the only way? she knew how to deal with the pain.
[From BuzzFeed]
By my internet sleuthing, the episode where Sarah and Jesse had to move a car is from Season 8 which aired between 2016-2017. By that point Modern Family had won 22 Emmy Awards. My point? The f?ing high heels weren?t necessary, what a dickhead thing for the producers to do. Truly, I don?t know how she did any of what she did based on what she describes here. She was passed out from pain but able to snap into character the minute the cameras rolled? And be funny?! Nailing comedic timing is no joke. (Har har, yes pun intended.) I?m glad she?s feeling well enough to talk about her experiences, and I hope she?s enjoyed her first year of marriage with a good hubby. She?s earned some good times. As for MF producers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, how about you film yourselves walking around in high heels for a day, as a way to step back into her good graces.

| Sarah Hyland on getting a booster shot: 'I am alive today because of science' | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This week I saw a segment from CBS on how potential transplant recipients who refuse the covid vaccine are being denied organ transplants. This is at the hospital and surgical team?s discretion, and the expert interviewed by CBS said it was medically ethical because it?s a severe risk to the patient and the healthy organ if someone won?t get vaccinated. It makes sense because organ transplant recipients are at increased risk from covid due to immune suppressing medications they take. CBS interviewed a dumb as rocks woman who was denied a kidney transplant because she wouldn?t get the shot for ?religious reasons.? It?s true that the covid vaccines were developed using decades old replicated fetal cell lines. That?s how most modern vaccines and medicines are developed and of course there are no fetal cells in the vaccine. The Pope has told people to get vaccinated. Does that woman refuse to take Tylenol or Advil when she has a headache? Those were developed through research using fetal cell lines too.
I was considering writing a story about that and I?m sure it would get more comments, but instead I?d like to talk about these quotes from Sarah Hyland. Hyland has a chronic condition called kidney dysplasia. She?s had two kidney transplants, in 2012 and 2017, and she?s of course received the vaccine for covid along with a covid booster shot. Sarah is very grateful to the scientists who made her surgeries and health possible. She talked about that during an interview she gave to People promoting her partnership with a brand of chocolates fortified with vitamins called Sourse.
Since her disease means shes more susceptible to becoming severely ill from COVID-19, Hyland spoke candidly about how important getting vaccinated has been to her.
It means the world to me. Im alive today because of science. With the medical field and where medicine is right now, its just life saving, she says. Because Ive gotten my booster shot, I feel even more comfortable than I did after receiving my two doses.
She also stressed the importance of trusting science for those who are skeptical about receiving the vaccine.
To those that are on the fence, you can do as much research on Google as you want, but its science and theyre true medical professionals making these vaccines, Hyland says. If someone like me with such a compromised immune system is not only eligible to get it, and very much willing to do so, its safe for you out there. It can only protect you.
[From People]
I like how Sarah specified that people ultimately have to trust science and medical professionals. It?s easy to focus on the yokels who jeopardize their life and livelihoods by refusing to get vaccinated, I just wanted to talk about this woman who knows she?s lucky to be alive and isn?t dumb and arrogant enough not to get vaccinated.
As for Sarah?s engagement and eventual wedding to Wells Adams, she told People that they?ll get married when they can after postponing the ceremony due to the pandemic. She said It is what it is, and you just have to roll with the punches.? She?s putting her health and her wedding guests? health above her ego, and that?s admirable.

Sarah Hyland, 28, was on the Ellen show this week, with Dax Shepard hosting. Sarah got engaged in July to her boyfriend of two years, Wells Adams formerly of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise. On Ellen Sarah confirmed that she met Wells on social media, after she tweeted about him and he contacted her. She also revealed that she picked out her engagement ring, an oval diamond set in platinum by Lorraine Schwartz. Heres some of what she said, and the video is below. Its a very breezy interview it doesnt get too deep but I wanted to talk about engagement rings.
Beautiful ring
Thanks I told him what to get.
How did you get to know him?
I saw him on The Bachelorette then he became the bartender on Bachelor in Paradise. He slid in [my] DMs because I tweeted about him.
[From Ellen via Youtube]
That ring is so pretty! I think its gorgeous. I told my now ex-husband which ring to get me too, I thought most women did this as a few friends have similar stories. (If you want to see my ring, its linked in the post for podcast #23.) I know some guys pick it out but usually they fish for ideas as to the cut and setting their girlfriend wants, unless its an heirloom ring.
After that Sarah promoted her movie The Wedding Year, where she plays a woman who uses Tinder to get free meals and ends up sort-of falling for someone. It co-stars Tyler James Williams and its called The Wedding Year because they become each others wedding dates to all the weddings they get invited to. I think we all had years like that in our late 20s and early 30s. Sarah is a prime example of that. This makes me wonder when shes going to get married. Whenever it is, I bet it will be over the top and well get a ton of photos.
Heres Sarahs interview:
