Felicity Huffman is currently promoting a play, Hir, which is being staged in London for a month. Which means she?s giving interviews to British outlets like the Guardian, and the Guardian didn?t really want to talk about the play. They wanted to talk about Felicity?s arrest and brief imprisonment, her guilty plea and her politics. I?m used to reading bonkers interviews and profiles and let me tell you, this Guardian piece is very, very weird. Partly because Felicity so clearly does not want to talk about many subjects and partly because the Guardian interviewer is making it extremely awkward. Some highlights:
How she feels about her criminal past: ?You mean Varsity Blues? ?How I am is kind of a loaded question. As long as my kids are well and my husband is well, I feel like I?m well. I?m grateful to be here. But how am I? I guess I?m still processing.?
She has barely worked since the scandal broke. ?I did a pilot for ABC recently that didn?t get picked up. It?s been hard. Sort of like your old life died and you died with it. I?m lucky enough to have a family and love and means, so I had a place to land.?
She has encountered a range of reactions from the public. ?I?m not in any way whitewashing what I did but some people have been kind and compassionate. Others have not.?
David Mamet defended her: Among her defenders is her good friend David Mamet, who wrote an open letter insisting that Huffman should have received the ?Texas Verdict? which means: Not guilty, but don?t do it again. ?I thought it was kind and brave of him to say something, regardless of what it was.? What does she think of his Texas Verdict argument? ?I don?t know,? she says flatly, bringing the matter to a close.
She?s a Democrat, David Mamet is not: ?The country is so siloed. My husband and I are Democrats and we thought we should try watching different news channels that don?t tell us what we want to hear.? Or they could speak to Mamet, a proud Donald Trump supporter. ?It?s really hard to do with someone you love,? she sighs. ?I can?t understand it.? Isn?t it worth trying, now that a second Trump presidency is a possibility? ?Anything I can do on the ground with my actions and my pocketbook to help that not happen, I am committed to doing. But talking a loving friend out of their political convictions? I?m not signing up for that.? Was she surprised when Mamet swung to the right in his 2008 essay Why I am no longer a ?brain-dead liberal?? ?Yeah, I don?t really wanna go into it,? she says, squirming in her coat. We move on again.
[From The Guardian]
In late November, Felicity gave her first big interview since the guilty plea and jail, and while she sounded humbled, she also claimed (bizarrely) that she thought she had to do fraud and break the law ?to give my daughter a future.? The pushback on Felicity was immediate. I think she realized that she needs to talk about all of it in a different way, but she still hasn?t figured out what to say so she?s just sort of stilted and awkward about it.
This is such a tangent, but let me compare Felicity and Halle Berry in a narrow way in 2020, Halle got probation, a fine and court-ordered community service for a hit-and-run. Halle began working with Jenesse Center for her community service and simply never stopped. She?s an ambassador for the domestic-violence charity and she?s spent over two decades doing amazing work with them. I actually believe that Felicity is trying to do something similar, which is continue working with charities beyond her community service. Lean into that and work with a publicist to figure out a way to talk about your crimes so you don?t come across like a privileged ahole. Like, it?s so simple but Felicity still hasn?t figured out a way to do it.

Remember Operation Varsity Blues? Several high-profile/celebrity parents in the LA area got caught in an FBI sting. The crimes included changing SAT answers, bribing college admissions officials, faking athletic backgrounds to get college admittance and scholarships and a lot more. Felicity Huffman was one of the moms who hired for Rick Singer to ?arrange? for an SAT monitor to change her daughters? SAT answers so the daughter would get a higher score. Felicity pleaded guilty to the federal charges and she got a two-week prison sentence, and she ended up getting released after one week. She also got sentenced to community service, and she?s still working with the same charity, which is why she?s given a big interview. While these are not her first comments on the whole ordeal (circa 2019-2020), this is the first sit-down interview I?ve seen with Felicity since all of it went down.
People assume that I went into this looking for a way to cheat the system and making proverbial criminal deals in back alleys, but that was not the case, Felicity Huffman said. I worked with a highly recommended college counselor named Rick Singer. I worked with him for a year and trusted him implicitly; he recommended programs and tutors and he was the expert. And after a year, he started to say, Your daughter is not going to get into any of the colleges that she wants to. And so, I believed him. When he slowly started to present the criminal scheme, it seemed like ? and I know this seems crazy at the time ? that that was my only option to give my daughter a future. I know hindsight is 20/20 but it felt like I would be a bad mother if I didnt do it. So, I did it.?
It felt like I had to give my daughter a chance at a future, she said. And so it was sort of like my daughters future, which meant I had to break the law.
The actress ? who says she did not tell her daughter Sophia about her plans ? recalled having second thoughts about what she had done as she drove her to the exam. She was going, Can we get ice cream afterwards? Im scared about the test. What can we do thats fun?? And I kept thinking, Turn around, just turn around, Huffman told the news outlet. To my undying shame, I didnt.
She served 11 days of her 14-day prison sentence in October 2019. The star was also sentenced to 250 hours of community service and was on supervised release for one year. Huffman completed her full sentence by October 2020. Her husband, Shameless star William H. Macy, was not charged in relation to the event. Her daughter Sophia later retook the SAT and was accepted into Carnegie Mellon Universitys theatre program, where she is currently studying.
[From People]
Yeah? it was such a sleazy thing to do, but at this point, I do believe that she was just one of those obsessive helicopter moms who thought she could throw money at ?the problem,? the problem being that she didn?t have faith that her daughters could get into college on their own merit. I hope this whole thing was a wake-up call for Felicity with her parenting style too, that she was actually being a sh-tty mother who treated her daughters like they were too stupid to do anything for themselves. Beyond that? she served her sentence, apologized, admitted guilt and she?s spent the past three years doing a lot of charity work. The best way to handle it.

People compared Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman?s situations constantly during the Operation Varsity Blues scandal, but their crimes were somewhat different. Felicity?s crimes were limited to scamming her daughters? SAT exams, whereas Lori and Mossimo scammed the academic system in a bunch of different ways, from falsifying their daughter?s sports careers, to paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get Olivia into USC. I?ll be honest, both Lori and Felicity sound like terrible mothers and horrible helicopter parents, so they had that in common. But being charged with federal crimes hit Felicity a lot harder than Lori. Felicity immediately sought and received a plea deal. She pleaded guilty last fall, and she got sentenced to 14 days in federal prison. She only served 11 days before being released, and she recently completed all of her community service hours and all of that. So now Felicity is ready for a comeback, and she?s found her comeback vehicle:
Felicity Huffman has landed her first project following her involvement in the college admissions scandal. The Oscar winner, 57, is set to headline a new as-yet-untitled ABC half-hour comedy, PEOPLE confirms. According to Deadline, the show, written by Becky Hartman Edwards, is inspired by Susan Savage, the real-life owner of the Sacramento River Cats, a Triple-A baseball team.
She is honored and grateful to be a part of this project, a source close to Huffman tells PEOPLE.
The project ? which has a pilot production commitment at ABC ? stars Huffman as a woman who inherits her husbands minor-league baseball team after his sudden death, per Deadline. She attempts to navigate her new normal with the help of her son, played by Zack Gottsagen, a baseball lover with Down syndrome.
Huffman, who previously won an Emmy for her work on ABCs Desperate Housewives, is also set to executive produce the series alongside Edwards and Savage. The news comes after a representative for the actress confirmed to PEOPLE last month that she had completed her full sentence in the college admissions scandal, which included jail time, community service and supervised release.
[From People]
It sounds like an interesting project, and it?s just a pilot? for ABC, which will probably pick it up for a season at least. It?s been a full year since Felicity completed her prison sentence, which is probably by design. My guess is that a crisis manager advised Felicity to do the time and community service quietly, with no drama, and then seek out a wholesome TV project for her ?comeback? but only after a year has passed. I?m sure Lori Loughlin got the same advice, but Lori?s not taking that advice Lori has been attention-seeking this whole damn time. Lori will want to come back next month.

By the time Felicity Huffman finally received her 14-day federal prison sentence, many of us already believed that she was just going to get a slap on the wrist anyway. She cut a plea deal early and admitted to her crimes repeatedly, although she did try to argue that she was simply going overboard for her ?severely learning disabled? daughters. Anyway, Felicity eventually had to go to prison and she did just that on October 15th, when she began her sentence at a low-security prison in Dublin, California. Guess what? She didn?t even have to do the full 14 days.
Actress Felicity Huffman was released from federal prison in Northern California on Friday after serving under two weeks for her role in a massive college admissions scandal. Huffman began her 14-day sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution, a low-security prison with approximately 1,200 female inmates, in Dublin, California, east of San Francisco, on Oct. 15.
Huffman was set to be released from prison Sunday, according to prison records, even though that was the 13th day of her sentence. She was released Friday as is normal policy for inmates who are set to be released on weekends, according to a prison official.
[From NBC News]
It was always going to feel like Felicity largely skated through that, especially when it was clear that prosecutors were basically only asking for her to do *some* prison time to save face. The 14-day sentence was a joke, and letting her out after 11 days feels like another joke. But whatever it?s over now. And now that Felicity is free, people are lining up for to get Felicity?s first TV interview:
Felicity Huffman is one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood now that shes out of prison but the people seeking her out are major TV anchors angling for the first interview. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ before Felicity went to FCI Dublin to serve her 11-day sentence, she was approached by CNNs Anderson Cooper, CBSs Gayle King, NBCs Savannah Guthrie, and ABCs George Stephanopoulos all of whom pitched why they were the best choice. Were told the CBS pitch was that their morning show is less salacious than ABC or NBC.
Were told Felicity took it all in but hasnt decided who, if anyone, she feels comfortable with to sit down and talk. In fact, were told theres a very good chance she wont do any interview.
[From TMZ]
If I had done something wrong and walked away from 11 days in prison somewhat humbled, who would I give my first interview to? Probably? Anderson Cooper. But Felicity will probably want to talk to a woman if she does talk. Ooh, maybe she?ll hold out for Diane Sawyer. Diane still does those interviews for ABC specials. I could see that. But what?s more likely is that Felicity will wait until she has something to promote. Like? a book? I wonder if anyone has approached her about doing a book.

Felicity Huffman has some time before she?s sent to prison? for fourteen days. That was her sentence, as part of the plea deal she took from the federal prosecutor. Felicity was scamming her daughters? SAT scores, and because Felicity immediately admitted guilt, she?s walking away with two weeks in prison, a $30K fine and 250 hours of community service. So now that the court-proceedings part of this sh-t is over, how does Felicity feel? According to People Mag, she?s just spending time with her family.
Now back home in L.A. after being sentenced to 14 days in prison on Sept. 13 in a Boston courtroom, Felicity Huffman is focused on regaining her family and the public?s trust. The Desperate Housewives actress, 56, who pleaded guilty last May to paying disgraced admissions consultant Rick Singer $15,000 to have a proctor change her oldest daughter Sophia?s SAT answers after she took the test, is scheduled to report to prison on Oct. 25.
In the meantime, she is focused on spending time with her husband William H. Macy, 69, and daughters Sophia, 19 and Georgia, 17.
?The family is hanging in there, spending time together and doing their best to heal,? a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. ?Felicity is getting everyone together, so they can spend time talking, and healing with each other.? After receiving her sentence, which also included a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service, plus supervised release for a full year after serving, a source close to Huffman?s team told PEOPLE she felt ?humbled.?
?The sentence Felicity received is not about a victory or a defeat. She is not disappointed or relieved about the outcome. She is contrite and humbled and accepts the outcome,? said the source adding, ?She is resigned to the fact that she has to serve her sentence and pay her dues to society.?
[From People]
?She is contrite and humbled and accepts the outcome.? I don?t know. I accept that, I guess. Of all the ways this could have gone down, Felicity seems to have chosen the smartest path. I?m not talking about her actual crime, of course, I?m just talking about what came after the crime. Yes, there are conversations about white privilege and criminal justice inequities, but I think Felicity?s punishment actually fits the crime. The problem isn?t that Felicity got off light, it?s that black people of color are punished to such extremes. And as I?ve said for weeks now, it?s also pretty clear that Felicity treated her daughters like g-ddamn science experiments and she had no idea how to actually raise them to be productive members of society. That?s another punishment for Felicity seeing how badly she?s fked up as a mother.

All of the cable news stations did breaking news coverage on Friday for Felicity Huffman?s sentencing. Can I just say? I was surprised by how surprised people were about Felicity?s sentence. We knew a week beforehand that the federal prosecutor had only asked the judge to sentence Felicity to one month in prison. Felicity?s lawyer, on the other hand, was asking for a suspended sentence or just no jail time. The judge split the difference: Felicity was sentenced to 14 days in prison, a $30,000 fine and 250 hours of community service. She?ll also have one year of probation. The sentence was so light because A) Felicity immediately took a plea deal as soon as it was offered, B) she made a full confession to her crimes, C) she can afford great lawyers, D) her felony was relatively minor compared to many other parents? crimes and E) she?s white and rich and what did you think was going to happen?
So even though gossip-readers knew what was about to happen, people still acted shocked and appalled that Felicity benefits from white privilege. Personally, I think Felicity?s public statements (as part of her guilty plea) made her look worse and even more out-of-touch, but what do I know. Felicity made a statement on Friday just after her sentencing:
I accept the court?s decision today without reservation. I have always been prepared to accept whatever punishment Judge Talwani imposed. I broke the law. I have admitted that and I pleaded guilty to this crime. There are no excuses or justifications for my actions. Period.
I would like to apologize again to my daughter, my husband, my family and the educational community for my actions. And I especially want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices supporting their children.
I have learned a lot over the last six months about my flaws as a person. My goal now is to serve the sentence that the court has given me. I look forward to doing my community service hours and making a positive impact on my community. I also plan to continue making contributions wherever I can well after those service hours are completed. I can promise you that in the months and years to come that I will try and live a more honest life, serve as a better role model for my daughters and family and continue to contribute my time and energies wherever I am needed. My hope now is that my family, my friends and my community will forgive me for my actions.
[From Variety]
*Shrug* I think she?s really sorry. I think she?s starting to understand how badly she?s screwed up her daughters? lives. I think she understands how badly her decision-making has been for years. As for her big two-week sentence, reportedly Felicity wants to serve the two weeks in a cushy minimum-security prison in northern California:
Felicity Huffman is hoping to avoid serving hard time. Lawyers for Huffman, who reports to prison on Oct. 25, requested Friday that the actress spend her two weeks behind bars at a minimum-security women?s lockup in northern California dubbed one of the cushiest prisons in the country. The Federal Correctional Institution Dublin houses 1,235 inmates and sits about 350 miles away from her Los Angeles home. While it?s ultimately the decision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, attorney Martin Murphy asked Judge Indira Talwani make the recommendation so the desperate inmate could see her family.
?It?s the closest to Ms. Huffman?s residence,? Murphy said inside the packed courtroom. As a Dublin inmate, the ?Desperate Housewives? star would have to trade her designer duds for the prison?s issued uniform: dowdy khaki clothing marked with her name and inmate number. Huffman, 56, will have to make her bed each morning in time for a daily 6:30 a.m. inspection and it will be lights out at 10 p.m. daily, according to the inmate handbook. Husband William H. Macy and her two daughters will be able to visit on Saturday and Sundays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. but will not be able to bring any gifts.
?Visitors may bring a maximum of $35.00 per adult. Money can only be used for the vending machines in the Visiting Room and may not be given to the inmate,? the handbook states. In 2009, Forbes named the big-house as one of America?s ?10 cushiest prisons? ? citing the facilities gorgeous bay area weather. Despite being a sitcom star, Huffman will also be restricted to the $320 monthly commissary limit. Highlights on the commissary list include the $3.65 pizza kit and the $2.10 two-pack of Oreos. To kill time, Huffman and her inmate pals can watch movies shown on weekdays at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. It?s unclear if the Emmy Award-winner will be put on a work assignment given her short stint behind bars.
[From Page Six]
I know people always joke about this kind of sh-t, but wow, prison doesn?t sound *that* bad. Getting up at 6:30 am would actually be sleeping IN for me. And I go to bed at 10 pm anyway. And they have Oreos and a bay view. I meanI?m sure there are fancy spas in that area with more restrictions and fewer Oreos. At the end of the two weeks, I would be like ?so, I actually would like to stay a little bit longer??

Felicity Huffman has better lawyers than Lori Loughlin. It probably helps that Felicity understood the gravity of the FBI arresting her at dawn on federal charges in the college-admissions scam. Felicity was one of many parents who paid Rick Singer to cheat. Felicity wanted her daughters? SAT scores to be faked somehow. So Felicity was caught and she was looking at years in prison. She was offered a deal. She took it immediately, with her lawyers? advice. She confessed, pleaded guilty and publicly apologized. And now it looks like the most prison time she would have to do is? ONE MONTH?
Felicity Huffmans about to dodge a huge bullet in the college admissions bribery scandal that is, if the judge follows federal prosecutors recommendation. The U.S. Attorney filed docs Friday saying the actress should do one month in federal prison and pay $20,000 in fines. Thats a great deal for Felicity because, back in May, prosecutors were recommending she do somewhere between 4 to 10 months in prison.
As for why the feds softened, prosecutors say in docs, Some period of incarceration is the only meaningful sanction for these crimes. Not because the defendants relative wealth has generated public resentment, but because jail is a particularly meaningful response to this kind of offense. For wrongdoing that is predicated on wealth and rationalized by a sense of privilege, incarceration is the only leveler: in prison everyone is treated the same, dressed the same, and intermingle regardless of affluence, position or fame. Translation: the government wants to scare the rich, privileged and celebs so they know misdeeds will result in them going to prison even for a little while.
Its interesting although the sentencing recommendation is light, the prosecutors language is tough Huffmans conduct was deliberate and manifestly criminal: it was wrong, she knew it was wrong, and she actively participated in manipulating her daughters guidance counselor, the testing services and the schools to which her daughter applied. The prosecutor goes on Her efforts werent driven by need or desperation, by a sense of entitlement, or at least moral cluelessness, facilitated by wealth and insularity. Millions of parents send their kids to college every year. All of them care as much as she does about the childrens fortunes. But they dont buy fake SAT scores and joke about (Ruh ro!) along the way.
The Ruh ro references an email submitted as evidence which Felicity had sent to Rick Singer, the bribery ringleader, when she found out the high school was using its own proctor instead of the one who was supposed to rig the testing.
Felicity did have 27 people submit letters of support including her husband William H. Macy and former costar Eva Longoria. Felicitys attorney submitted their own docs, recommending she get 1 year of probation, 250 hours community service and the $20k fine. According to the docs, prison isnt necessary to deter others because Felicitys already suffering in several ways: she cant get an audition or offer for roles, her daughter Sophia cant get auditions at performing arts colleges even ones where SATs arent required, and both of her daughters are deeply angry at her. Our U.S. Attorney sources say one of the reasons prosecutors softened their recommendation is because the probation department was recommending as little as NO prison time.
[From TMZ]
Yeah, the federal prosecutors were like ?we?re going to make an example out of all of these rich douches? and then everyone else was like ?but these are white people committing white collar crimes and maybe some of these cases were a waste of resources?? I don?t know. I bet Felicity gets, like, a mostly symbolic 48 hours in prison or something.
In addition to submitting letters of support to the court, Felicity also submitted her own letter to the court, explaining how and why she committed the crimes you can read the piece here. She admits that there is ?no justification for what I have done,? but still goes on and on about how her daughters have ?serious learning disabilities? and she wanted her daughters to have good SAT scores so they could at least have some choices when it came to acting programs or theater programs. Iwell, I?m not sure I believe that. But whatever, Felicity is fully apologizing and admitting everything.

On March 12, the FBI and DOJ announced the dozens of arrests in connection with their Operation Varsity Blues taskforce. Felicity Huffman was one of the parents caught up in it, and the FBI full-on raided her home at dawn to arrest her and take her into custody. It seemed like a giant wakeup call for her, and less than a month later, she accepted a plea deal from federal prosecutors and she made a public apology wherein she admitted her wrongdoing. The terms of the plea deal were a bit sketchy, as the federal judge would have the final say on sentencing, but it was clear that Felicity had agreed to the deal with the promise that the prosecutors would ask for a lighter sentence in what will probably be a minimum security prison.
Felicity went back to court on Monday federal court, in Boston. This was just the formal hearing on her plea deal, and prosecutors ended up requesting that she be sentenced to four months in prison.
Prosecutors have recommended that Felicity Huffman spend four months in jail as part of a plea agreement in the high-profile college admissions cheating scandal. The Desperate Housewives actress appeared in court on Monday to officially plead guilty in the case. Arriving nearly two hours early, she was wearing a dark coat and light skirt. Holding hands with her brother, she had a somber expression as she entered the courthouse.
Huffman broke down in tears in the courtroom while addressing the judge. She told the judge that she understood the terms of her plea deal. The judge then reminded the 56-year-old actress that she would be waiving her right to stand trial if she pleaded guilty. Huffman has agreed not to appeal any prison decision up to 20 years. In return, the government is recommending that she receive a punishment near the lower-end of the sentencing guidelines. They recommend that she spend 4 months in prison and pay a $20,000 fine.
[From People]
It?s sobering, right? I actually do feel a little bit sorry for her she hadn?t gotten to the point where she was bribing people to get her kids into college, she was just at the ?bribing test-takers? stage of Terrible Mothering. I mean, she absolutely deserves to be punished. But it?s intense to think that she?s going to prison for four months. Well, they said that the DOJ wants to make examples out of these rich, clueless ahole parents, so there it is. Lori Loughlin?s actions were so much worse and she thinks she can act churchy and everybody will believe her.
Superficial notes: Felicity looks like she?s aged a decade in a month, and I like her lowkey court look. She looks appropriately humbled.

Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were both required to fly to Boston last week to present themselves in federal court. This wasn?t the kind of hearing where they had to announce how they were pleading, but they did have to listen to a formal recitation of the charges against them. I imagine it would be a sobering experience for nearly everyone, and Felicity seemed appropriately somber about the whole ordeal. Lori did not she smiled and posed for paparazzi photos and fan photos and she signed autographs. Lori is the one in deeper sh-t, I?ve felt for a while now. But it looks like Felicity is the one taking some kind of deal she?s pleading guilty to the crimes, and she?s released a statement about it:
?I am pleading guilty to the charge brought against me by the United States Attorney?s Office. I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions.
?I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community. I want to apologize to them and, especially, I want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly.
?My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.?
[From People]
I feel like Felicity understood the seriousness of this situation from the beginning, when armed FBI agents raided her home early in the morning, before her husband and kids were even awake. That kind of thing is an eye-opener, as it?s meant to be.
Anyway, I initially thought that Felicity was pleading guilty and simply hoping that the federal prosecutor put in a good word with the judge. But according to TMZ, it is a plea deal and the judge will have the final say on what will happen with Felicity. Prosecutors are recommending a a prison term on the low end of the sentencing guidelines, meaning between 4 to 10 months. As I said, the judge will have the final say.

As we discussed yesterday, when it was breaking news, Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were both indicted as part of a wide-ranging and far-reaching college admissions scheme. In Felicity?s case, she paid $15K to ensure that a SAT tester would change her daughter?s answers to give her daughter a better SAT score. In Loughlin?s case, she paid $500K for a scheme that had her and an NCAA coach falsifying her daughter?s records so her daughter looked like an elite crew rower, when the daughter was not anything of the kind. While various legal experts are chiming in about the poor, rich, white SAT Beckys who had to do crimes because they loved their dumb kids too much and how could we possibly put them in jail for that, the FBI is treating this like any other criminal situation. The FBI locked and loaded arrived at Felicity?s home bright and early yesterday morning:
Felicity Huffman knew she was a target of the federal investigation into bribery in the college admissions process but she had no idea 7 feds would show up at her door Tuesday morning with guns drawn. Sources familiar with the arrest tell TMZ, 7 FBI agents showed up at Felicitys Hollywood Hills home at 6 AM and drew their weapons as they ordered Felicity to come out and surrender.
Were told Felicity, her husband William H. Macy and their 2 daughters were asleep when the agents ordered her out. Our sources say she knew the arrest was looming and would have gladly surrendered on her own, but the feds saw it differently.
An FBI source familiar with the arrest tells TMZ guns were drawn as a precaution. Its always left to the agents discretion whether to draw a firearm during an arrest. The agents took Huffman to a federal building where she was processed by federal marshals.
As we reported, Huffman was indicted for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. The indictment claims Huffman made a charitable contribution of $15,000 to participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of her eldest daughter. The indictment claims the daughter was given twice the amount of time to take the SAT as other students and the paid proctor agreed to secretly correct her answers afterward.
[From TMZ]
Felicity appeared before a federal judge later on Tuesday to be formally charged in the bribery scheme. She didn?t have to enter a plea, but she had to put up $250K for her bond, and she had to surrender her passport. She?s expected to next appear in a Boston court on March 29 for a preliminary hearing.
As for Lori Loughlin, she was out of the country when the FBI arrived at her door. TMZ says that she plans to return to California today and turn herself into authorities. THe FBI did arrest her husband Mossimo Giannulli and he was charged in federal court yesterday, same as Felicity, although I think he?s facing different kinds of charges, because that family scheme involved more money and more people.
There were some questions about why William H. Macy Felicity?s husband wasn?t arrested and charged with any crime. It?s clear in the affidavit that Macy had some knowledge of the SAT-test bribery scheme, but I think (and I?m just guessing) that the FBI thought they couldn?t really prove that Macy was truly involved in bribing the SAT tester or whatever.
Here?s Lori Loughlin?s daughter Olivia Jade the fake crew rower talking about how she doesn?t really care about school and she just wants to go to college to party.
