Last November, Deadline got a scoop that Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser were in talks to reprise their roles in The Mummy 4. Fans have been asking to reboot that franchise for decades, so the news spread like wildfire. In January, Fraser told the Radio Times that he?d totally be down to give the people what they want, but that the final decision was not up to him.
Well, The Mummy will officially rise again, with both Fraser and Weisz confirmed as Rick and Evelyn O?Connell. John Hannah is also returning as Evelyn?s brother, Jonathan Carnahan. Fraser recently appeared on The Tonight Show to promote his new World War II movie, Pressure. Before Jimmy Fallon even brought up that film, he asked Brendan about The Mummy 4. Brendan stopped himself before he said too much, but did joke about having to get back in action-movie shape. I?ll embed the video below and here?s a recap from People:
?The Mummy? star Brendan Fraser was in his thirties when he first became an action star with his trio of adventure movies. Now, nearly 20 years after his last outing as archaeologist Rick O?Connell, the 57-year-old actor is getting back into shape for the long-awaited ?Mummy 4.?
Fraser joined Jimmy Fallon on ?The Tonight Show? to tease ?The Mummy 4,? which is set to release in theaters on Oct. 15, 2027. He?ll reunite with Rachel Weisz, who starred as Rick?s wife Evelyn in the first two ?Mummy? movies before being replaced by Maria Bellow in the role in ?The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.? John Hannah, who played Evelyn?s older brother Jonathan, is also back for the sequel.
?We?re gonna get the band back together,? Fraser told Fallon. ?The only way to do it. So, we are going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last twenty-whatever years.?
?The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? was released in 2008, but was the lowest grossing film of the trilogy and received negative reviews compared to 1999?s original ?The Mummy? and the 2001 sequel ?The Mummy Returns.?
?I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ?I don?t know if they are.? Then other ?Mummy? movies got made,? Fraser said about his return to the franchise. ?But listen, what we?re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations ? I should probably stop talking like this, because I don?t want to give everything away.?
?The Mummy 4? will be Fraser?s first action movie in years. He won the Oscar for best actor for his 2022 drama ?The Whale,? had a supporting role in Martin Scorsese?s ?Killers of the Flower Moon? and recently starred in last year?s awards contender ?The Rental Family.?
?Please wish me luck,? he said about his ?Mummy 4? training. ?I?m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.?

In the video, you can tell that Brendan was given instructions on how to answer that question. He starts off cautiously by talking about his own feelings about wanting to do it. I think he started to get excited and was about to reveal actual film information before catching it and stopping himself. To that, I have a message for Brendan: Buddy, we were on the edge of our seats. Give us some scraps while we wait for the movie?s October 2027 release.
Brendan?s joke about getting in shape was a funny thing to pivot to. I?m sure he is working hard to get back into shape, but I hope he?s being kind to himself! He famously almost died while filming a stunt for the first movie. Fans don?t care if Rick is in shape or not. He could have a dad bod for all we care. We?re just happy to have the gang back together after so long.

In a Modern Love column inThe New York Times, Maria Bello casually came out of the closet by writing about a conversation she had with her 12-year-old where she explained that she was now dating a woman named Clare, who was wearing a fedora and speaking in her Zimbabwe accent when they first met. I don’t know why that detail made me giggle, but it did and now I can’t stop imagining Clare tipping her fedora at Maria Bello.
So back to Jackson?s question, with me sitting on the edge of his bed: Was I romantic with anyone right now?
I exhaled and finally said it: ?Clare.?
He looked at me for what seemed like an eternity and then broke into a huge, warm smile. ?Mom, love is love, whatever you are,? he said with wisdom beyond his years. (Yes, he obviously attends one of those progressive schools in Los Angeles!)
I loved him so much for saying that. ?But Jack, I?m a little scared,? I said. ?When I was younger, people judged you if you were in a romantic relationship with a person of the same sex, and some still do. So I?m not sure how to deal with this. But we?ll figure it out together.?
I should probably be focusing on how crazy it was that Maria Bello nonchalantly announced her bisexuality in a New York Times piece and discuss her definition of what a partner is, but… this kid is 12? God, I hate precocious kids. Mostly because they’re creepy and weird. Oh, you’re wise beyond your years? What are you, a grown man trapped in a child’s body? An antique clown staring at me from the foot of my bed in the middle of the night would be less unsettling than you.

Well, this is interesting. But not in the way you?re expecting, maybe. Maria Bello has ?come out? as bisexual in an essay/column in the New York Times. The piece, written by Maria, was published over the weekend to a collective ?What?s that again?? Maria discusses her ?coming out? as a bisexual woman through the story of how she came to tell her 12-year-old son about what was happening with his mama. While I think it?s absolutely fine to tell your 12-year-old son (and the world) that you self-identify as bisexual and you?ve had relationships with women, the shocking part to me was that Maria is actually in two major relationships right now ? one with a man and one with a woman. Maria calls this her ?modern family.? But that?s really confusing for kids, right? I couldn?t care less about the sexuality, it?s the ?mommy loves two people in different ways? part that I think is? perhaps inappropriate for children. Anyway, you can read Maria?s piece here and here?s the basic gist:
?So are you romantic with anyone right now?? [my son] asked.
I took a deep breath, knowing that my answer, and his response, would have an impact on our lives for a very long time.
He was right; I was with someone romantically and I hadn?t told him. I had become involved with a woman who was my best friend, and, as it happens, a person who is like a godmother to my son. How and when should I tell him? When I explained the situation to a therapist, she smiled and said, ?Your son may say a lot of things about you when he?s older, but he will never say his mother was boring.?
Her advice was to wait until he asked. And now here he was, asking.
? First, how would it affect my son? He trusted Clare. He loved her. He had never met most of the men I had been in love with and had no idea I had been with a woman as well. Second, how would it affect my career? I have never defined myself by whom I slept with, but I know others have and would.
It?s hard for me even to define the term ?partner.? And I have never understood the distinction of ?primary? partner. Does that imply we have secondary and tertiary partners, too? Can my primary partner be my sister or child or best friend, or does it have to be someone I am having sex with? I have two friends who are sisters who have lived together for 15 years and raised a daughter. Are they not partners because they don?t have sex? And many married couples I know haven?t had sex for years. Are they any less partners?
My feelings for Clare aren?t the same as the butterflies-in-the-stomach, angst-ridden love I have felt before; they are much deeper than that. As we grew closer, my desire for her grew stronger until, after a few months, I decided to share the truth of our relationship with my large, Italian-Polish, ?traditional? Philadelphia family.
My father?s response came between puffs of his cigar while we sat on the roof of a casino in Atlantic City. ?She?s a good girl, good for you,? he said. My mother and family echoed his sentiments. Maybe they weren?t so traditional after all.
My feelings about attachment and partnership have always been that they are fluid and evolving. Jack?s father, Dan, will always be my partner because we share Jack. Dan is the best father and the most wonderful man I?ve known. Just because our relationship is nonsexual doesn?t make him any less of a partner. We share the same core values, including putting our son first. My more recent ex, Bryn, remains my partner because we share our activism. And Clare will always be my partner because she is also my best friend.

And we have figured it out together: Jack, Clare, Dan and I. It?s a rare weekend when we aren?t piled in the same car, driving to one of Jack?s soccer tournaments. Dan makes fun of Clare for getting lost and she makes sure he always has the umbrellas, sunscreen, water nuts and whatever else we might need in a nuclear disaster.

Maria goes on about how it works for her and I guess we should applaud her for figuring out the whole co-parenting thing and going with the flow and all of that. I think it?s sweet that her son is so accepting right off the bat (bigotry and intolerance is learned behavior, not inherent in children) and hey, what do I know? Maybe it will all work out. But it sounds like it?s working? right now. But that the situation will probably become more fluid when Dan moves on with someone else or when Maria has some hot guy or girl co-star and it will just be a mess. But maybe that?s fine too, Jack sounds like a good kid and maybe he?ll understand.
Also, in case you thought that ?costars? reference was a throw-away, Maria talks about falling deeply in and out of love with two unnamed costars in her essay. I really, really want to know if one of the costars was Viggo Mortensen. RIGHT?! Because their sex scenes in A History of Violence were pretty hot and I could easily see how any woman would fall in love with Viggo within the span of a few hours. Yes, I’m projecting.

These are just some extra ladies that maybe didn?t deserve their own individual posts, although they were noteworthy enough to mention here. First up: Maria Bello in Kaufmanfranco. This was actually one of my favorite dresses of the night, and I think Maria was one of the best-dressed ladies, overall. She was just there as a presenter, because she?s coming out with Prime Suspect, the American remake of the British cop show starring Helen Mirren. Maria has big shoes to fill, and I?m looking forward to seeing this series, honestly. I love this entire look - the dress, the hair, the makeup. She looks beautiful, but it?s not a showy, ?LOOK AT ME? outfit, which is nice for a presenter. Also: Maria has a cute ass.
Next: Gretchen Mol in L?Wren Scott. I often wonder why more women don?t choose L?Wren for big red carpet events, because L?Wren gowns are often understated, impeccable, classic and beautiful. But maybe the problem is that if you put a classic, deceptively simple dress on someone boring like Gretchen, it just reads as a snorefest. Gretchen is just? zzzzz?..
Last: Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh, the new Charlie?s Angels. Minka is in Dior, Taylor in Armani, and Annie is in Romona Keveza. Minka lost a real opportunity to take it to the next level here - she could be ?The Next Blake Lively? you know? I mean that she could be the go-to ?hot girl? with a great figure who gets invited everywhere, and then starts doing movies. Instead, Minka just wore a boring old-lady dress with doily sleeves and she looked terrible. Out of all of them, I really like Annie?s dress - that?s a beautiful color on her. I could do without the headpiece thing, though.
