Here are photos from last night?s London premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega stood apart from the rest of the cast to show off their color-coordinated ensembles. They look amazing. John wore an ensemble to reflect his Nigerian ancestry. Daisy wore a dress by one of the great British courtiers, Vivienne Westwood. Sometimes, an actress or a model will wear one of Westwood?s famous corsetted dresses and it just works perfectly. This is one of those times. The shade of blue, the velvet panels, the puffy ?mullet? train, and the corset combined for an unforgettable look on Daisy. I love this so hard.
Here?s Kelly Marie Tran, looking super-glamorous yet again in this Phuong My gown. Did she get a new stylist or is this some kind of massive screw-you to all of those toxic bros who ripped her to shreds with The Last Jedi?
Keri Russell is just have some styling problems during this promotional tour. This Stephane Rolland dress is another mess!
Oscar Isaac, looking like a snack.
I love Domhnall Gleeson. That is all.

| Daisy Ridley does not understand white privilege & doesn't think she has privilege | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Conversations about class and privilege seem especially fraught these days. Here in America, there are a lot of wealthy white people who like to pretend that they got where they are because of hard work alone, and that white privilege played no part in their lives. It happens with celebrities, and it happens with voting blocs as well I?m always shocked when I see the demographic breakdown of Trump supporters, and how many of them are wealthy white people with chips on their shoulders about their own fking privilege, not that they would admit that. Anyway, America doesn?t have the franchise on fraught conversations about privilege, class, wealth and race. British peeps also have those same awkward conversations, and it?s always a treat when some posh private school actor suddenly thinks he?s working class. I didn?t expect the conversation to happen in the midst of the Star Wars promotion though. Daisy Ridley gave an interview to the Guardian, and the Guardian journo brought up Daisy?s privileged background in the middle of the interview and Daisy? reacted poorly. Here?s that section:
I ask if she thinks it has been easier to be confident and navigate her celebrity because of the privilege in her life ? of boarding school, her upbringing and so on? Ridley is suddenly incredulous. ?The privilege I have ? how? No, genuinely, how??
Well, I say, in terms of wealth, class, education ? that kind of privilege, in knowing how to decode the rules in certain spaces. As a caveat, I add that both of us have privilege, and it?s not a criticism; I was simply curious to know what she thought. Things take an awkward turn.
?Well no, because, no? ? There is a very long and tense pause, before she insists that, actually, there is little difference between her experience and that of her co-star John Boyega, who grew up in south London to British Nigerian immigrant parents. ?John grew up on a council estate in Peckham and I think me and him are similar enough that? no.? I don?t point out that members of Ridley?s family were establishment figures (her grandfather, John Ridley OBE, was head of engineering at the BBC from 1950 to 1965; his brother was the Dad?s Army actor and playwright Arthur Ridley), while Boyega had to apply for a hardship fund to join Theatre Peckham.
?Also,? she adds, ?I went to a boarding school for performing arts, which was different.? (Her publicist later calls to clarify that Ridley won a scholarship.)
But surely nine years of private education gave her some additional confidence?
?No.? Ridley leans on her elbow while twirling a small knot in her hair. ?No. I think, also, it has taken me a little while to be OK with it. I was always fairly confident, and I think that comes from being part of a big family who are all quite chatty.?
It?s an unexpectedly defensive detour, as if the mere mention of privilege is an attempt to diminish Ridley?s hard work or talent. I try to change the subject but get the distinct feeling that her publicist, sitting behind me in Ridley?s eyeline, has made some sort of silent intervention. ?I?m not saying what you?re saying is wrong,? Ridley adds. ?I?ve just never been asked that before, so I?m like, oh. I don?t think so.? We move on.
[From The Guardian]
I think the Guardian journo made the right observation there, ?as if the mere mention of privilege is an attempt to diminish Ridley?s hard work or talent.? Daisy took the mention of her family background/systemic white privilege as a personal affront. If she was 18 or 19 years old, I would say that she probably never had to answer a blunt question about her class or race privilege and she reacted poorly, but maybe it?s a teachable moment. But? Daisy is 27 years old. She?s been part of the Star Wars franchise for five years. She?s lived in the world and she?s a well-educated young woman. She knows better. Of course she works hard. Of course she studied in school and she continues to study and prepare and train for her work. But of course? her background, private education and yes, her race, all played a part in getting her through a lot of doors throughout her life. And I can?t believe she honestly thinks her experiences as a middle-class, well-educated white woman were basically the same as John Boyega?s experiences. My God.

| Daisy Ridley wore a Calvin Klein trash bag to the UK 'Last Jedi' premiere | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from last night?s London premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, aka The Film That Will Single-Handedly Rescue the Sh-tty Box Office Receipts of 2017. I don?t even have to look it up – I?m sure The Last Jedi is on track to make a bajillion dollars. In the first month. So why, perchance, is the cast still being forced into this crazy international hustle? If ever there?s a moment to just sit back and let the commercials do their work, it?s right now. But no, the cast flew en masse to London for the premiere.
I do think Daisy Ridley has started phoning it in a little bit with her style. She wore this Calvin Klein dress to the London premiere and I loathe this on her. First of all: enough with the black! She?s a young woman and she thinks black makes her look chic. She could stand to lighten things up. Second of all, this fabric is a trash bag tragedy. She looks like she?s wearing a repurposed Hefty bag. Third thing: I really dislike Daisy?s skirt lengths during this promotional tour. I get the feeling that she?s been aiming for tea-length, but it?s not working out, and now everything looks so awkward on her. Bonus Mark Hamill!
Laura Dern wore Alexander McQueen. I mean? I sort of understand this, but not with the black boots. If you?re going to wear a gown which would look more at home at the Golden Globes, fine, that?s your call. But own that and style accordingly. Don?t wear black boots with your frilly, ruffled, Pink gown.
Gwendoline Christie is so tall and regal that she makes this Iris Van Herpen sack dress look like the most fabulous thing in the world.
Oscar Isaac with his partner and baby-mama Elvira. Since I like Oscar so much, I won?t talk sh-t about Elvira?s bangs, okay?
I totally forgot that Benicio del Toro is in this. He seems confused by it as well.
Domhnall Gleeson is The Real Ginger Prince.
John Boyega?s out here looking like 007. Nice velvet, man.

| Daisy Ridley: My skin isn't great, I have a trainer, I don't always smile | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The last time we talked about something Daisy Ridley had posted on Instagram she was schooling an online troll who mocked her body by saying “real women have curves.” Ridley was quite articulate in defending herself, and every other woman, as a “real women.” She wrote, in part “I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what?s happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way.” It was a nice sentiment from Ridley, and you can tell she thinks about these issues and cares about their effect on other women.
In a new Instagram post Ridley, 24, put up a glamorous selfie with winged eyeliner, and then she got a bit philosophic about the nature of social media and how it creates unrealistic expectations. Here’s what she wrote.
3 of these statements aren't true… Social media is great but also a bit scary cause what people post is the most filtered, most carefully chosen and cleverly edited moments of their lives. And self esteem is a huge issue for people around the world. My skin isn't great so I don't post no make up selfies, much as I'd like to; I have a trainer urging me on in workouts and don't include all the times I say 'I can't do it' and I don't smile all the time but I like to share the pictures where I am. But I actually do love myself, I try to think good thoughts always and am surrounded by the most wonderful people, so I'm keeping it balanced (like the Force, obvs). Just thought I'd say

| Daisy Ridley on whether Jyn Erso is Rey's mother: it's not important | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Daisy Ridley accompanied JJ Abrams to the MTV Movie Awards, which aired on Sunday, Daisy?s 24th birthday. Daisy took home the Breakthrough Performance award and Star Wars: The Force Awakens won Movie of the Year, which surprised no one. Tumblr?s new boyfriend Adam Driver won Best Villain for Kylo Ren, just to round out the Star Wars wins, but he didn’t show.
Last week the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer dropped. Not ones to sit by idly, Star Wars fans immediately got to work on ALL the theories. Since Rogue One is a prequel to The Force Awakens and its lead character, Jyn Erso, is a caucasian brunette – just like Daisy’s Rey character – the first theory out of the gate is that Jyn Erso is Rey?s mother. Everyone is tossing this one around. Everyone except Daisy, that is. She says it doesn?t matter.
According to Ridley, rumors of Jyn and Rey?s familial connection have been greatly exaggerated. ?I?m not being funny you guys, but just because she?s white and got brown hair? it doesn?t mean she?s my mom,? Ridley told MTV?s Josh Horowitz backstage at the MTV Movie Awards.
And besides, Ridley already knows who Rey?s parents are ? and she doesn?t think it?s that big of a deal. ?I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don?t come from anywhere, and they find a place,? Ridley, who?s currently filming Rian Johnson?s Star Wars: Episode VIII, said. ?So to me, it?s funny that people think it?s so important because I don?t really think it is.?
It?s unclear if Episode VIII will delve into Rey?s backstory, but we do know the film will pick up right where The Force Awakens left off: with Rey handing over Luke?s lightsaber to the fallen Jedi on that island on Ahch-To. Ridley describes the film as ?darker? than Episode VII, and when asked about Rey?s future as a Jedi, she gave this very intriguing response: ?I don?t know if I am a Jedi? I don?t think I am.?
?We?ve had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers,? she continued. ?Just because she?s not like, oh I?m going on an adventure like Luke doesn?t make her any less Forceful.?
[From MTV.com]
It made sense that JJ would be there with his star for the MTV Awards, but now I totally get it. Since JJ guards his plot points tighter than Fort Knox, he was probably in the corner Obi Won Kenobing Josh saying,” These are not the answers you are looking for.” And Daisy knows who Rey’s parents are? Clearly this girl does not drink because I would be three scotches in and drawing a family tree on my neighbors? wall with that info.
So is Daisy dancing around the answer or is she telling us Jyn Erso is not Rey’s mother? And if she is telling us that, is she lying? If so, she’s a really good liar. Like she should be Jon Snow because I have no idea if I should believe her or not. Certainly better than Benedict Cumberbatch pretending he wasn?t Khan. In the video with Josh, Daisy goes on to say “Regardless of where you come from, where you go, that’s the thing… you’re moving forward.” Her point being that the focus on Finn and Rey’s stories should be their progression, not where they began. Which, of course, is exactly what some who was trying to deflect an origin story would say – damn you, Abrams!
In case you haven?t seen it yet, Mark Hamill ? who is just flat out awesome ? tweeted this for Dairy on her birthday. When the Rebel Alliance tweets, we all win (for the Empire Strikes Back references, here it is):
A long time ago (last week I think) In a galaxy far, far way(@PinewoodStudios ) THIS happened! Happy Birthday Daisy! pic.twitter.com/dYc9j65YBD

| Daisy Ridley claps back at an online troll who said 'real women have curves' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Daisy Ridley is a tiny little thing. I suspect she?s just a very petite young woman naturally. I honestly didn?t think too much about her size while I was watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, mostly because JJ Abrams created a capable, intelligent, emotionally strong and physically strong character with Rey. She?s capable in combat, and she?s capable intellectually (likely because the Force is strong with her). Rey is, I hope, a wonderful role model for little girls. But someone didn?t think Daisy is a role model because, and I sh-t you not, ?real women have curves.? Ugh, I thought we were done with this conversation years ago.
Daisy Ridley is standing up for all women of all shapes and sizes. The Star Wars: Force Awakens actress found herself the victim of a recent body-shaming attack in which an Instagram user said she “set unrealistic expectations” for young girls because “real women have curves.” However, Ridley was quick to inform the user that, in fact, all women are “real” women.
“‘Real women’ are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave. I am a ‘real woman’ like every other woman in this world. What’s weird is most of the time I see such gorgeous messages from people around the world,” she began. “People who relate to something in Rey they haven’t found in a female character before…It is much more hurtful to continue to slate other women than BE a woman, BE a character, BE whoever you want to be.”
She added, “I’m a normal girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, just like Rey. I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what’s happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way.”
Thus, she has a bit of advice for not only those who have a problem with the way she looks, but who have a problem with anyone else in life: “Remember that expression, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Kindness isn’t going to cure the world of all its awfulness but it’s a good place to begin.”
[From E! News]
Daisy ended up deleting her original Instagram, which called out the Instagram critic specifically, and then Daisy replaced it with the Instagram below. As for Daisy?s reaction? she?s perfect. She handled that really well. If you have to react to an online critic, this is a good way to do it. Why can?t people understand: some women have curves and some women don?t. Some women are petite, some are tall, some are big-busted and some are narrow-hipped. And they?re all Real Women.
Guys it was not my intention for anyone to send messages to that poor person that posted the original picture. My whole post is about being kind to each other, so please refrain!
