Nikki Reed has almost completely dropped out of the acting spotlight to run her farm with husband Ian Somerhalder. In addition to that, she runs her own jewelry line, Bayou with Love. Her stuff is cute. Recently, she partnered with Wondercide who makes essential oil-based pest control products. Shes also a hands-on mom to her four-year-old daughter, Bodhi, and said she enlists no professional childcare at all. Nikki said there?s nothing wrong with having help, she just doesn?t want any. Fortunately, she also said her intuition has never led her astray, so obviously she?s made the right decision.
On being environmental friendly: Its just a part of our everyday life. She sees that Mommy makes the extra effort For example, Im in a place right now where they dont pick up your recycling. So most people would just combine trash and recycling and say, I dont care. But my daughter knows that every other day Mommys gonna load up the recycling into the back of the car and were going to drive it to the recycling center because theres no way Im not going to do that stuff I buy water in bulk, in glass, so thats always a conversation; she knows that we dont drink out of plastic. She knows that when we go anywhere in the car or travel or do anything, I keep all of our reusable silverware in the center console of the car. If we ever pick up take-out food, she knows that Mommys going to bring my own Tupperware to pick it up.
On motherly intuition: Ive learned a lot about intuition for sure. Ive always had really solid intuition, but Ive learned now, since becoming a mom, that I dont question it at all; I dont even give it one second of overthinking. If I know something in my gut, I know it and I go with it You just know in your gut what the right move is for your child, you know?
On finding a life balance: And so I learned to slow down in some ways. Yes, Im still operating my company and Im involved in every aspect of the business, from operations to the creative, to web copy, to design photography, all of it. So Im very involved in my company, and that is totally consuming at times. And then I also sit on the board of a couple of other companies as the strategic marketing adviser and I have a couple of other jobs too. So theres a lot happening in my world, but the greatest gift is that Ive learned that its OK to say no to people around me, but also to myself.
On not employing any help: Im a very hands-on parent. I work full-time, but I also dont have any professional childcare ? not that theres anything wrong with that at all; I think its wonderful if thats what suits your family. But I really want to be as present as possible with my daughter. I like being there for every bath time and every meal time, so I kind of work around that. I set my alarm and I work really early, from 5 in the morning until 8:30, when shes up, and then I take a break for her breakfast, and then I go back to work in the in-between times. She has been in preschool and stuff like that, so those are my moments of break and work. And then I work late into the evenings.
[From Yahoo!]
How? How does a person run every aspect of their own company, sit on the board of other companies, and not employ any help with their child? I?m trying to remember preschool hours, do they have full day options? I guess if Nikki?s daughter is out of the house from 9-5 she could run her business during that time. Of course, Nikki specifies she doesn?t have professional childcare, not that she doesn?t employ assistants and housekeepers. If someone else is helping tend to the house and do the shopping and run errands, that would make it doable. I mean, good for her, it just sounds exhausting. But she?s right, she needs to do what she thinks is best. And if sacrificing sleep is what she?s willing to do to forego childcare, then she?s found her system. Can we assume Ian is helping? At one point, Nikki referred to Bodhi as her ?first? child. So I guess they?re still planning on more. One thing is clear, Nikki adores being Bodhi?s mom so thank goodness she?s been able to arrange her world around that.
I?m also jealous of her intuition. I don?t know if there was ever a time I didn?t question something I?d decided or done. That must be a wonderful feeling to be so sure of your choices.
This is less important, but I was really curious about Nikki?s Tupperware comments. Will take-out places let you bring your own? It seems like there would be some legalities involved. Maybe it?s places they know the owners or something, farmers tend to be a tight knit community.

A couple of weeks ago, Nikki Reed shared a beautiful photo where she?s nursing her daughter, Bodhi, 20 months, in matching white linen jumpsuits her mother-in-law gave them. Nikki wrote in the caption that Bodhi doesn?t like baby food at all and prefers finger food. She said that Bodhi wanted to continue to nurse and that she often gets asked when she?s going to stop breastfeeding her. The majority of comments were kind and supportive of her. Many people mentioned baby-led weaning. It?s worth noting that Nikki was only sharing her experience and that she never mentioned other mother?s choices only to say whatever you?re doing you are doing it right! Of course Nikki got some judgment for it because it?s the Internet and that?s what happens. (See Pink. Of course thats somewhat different.) In a new interview with E!, Nikki clarified her stance on breastfeeding and spoke a little about the topic of mom shaming. She was so thoughtful about it. I really like her.
[Nikki's] post prompted mostly positive reactions but also some mom-shaming about breastfeeding toddlers as well as criticism of moms who choose not to breastfeed their children at all.
I dont believe that mom-shaming is ever OK, Reed told E! News. Fed, whether thats with formula or breastfeeding or whatever works for your child and for you is whats best. All moms are just trying to do whats best. And for some moms, breastfeeding just doesnt work out, whether thats an issue with milk supply or going back to work right away or whatever that thing is, and it is not our job and responsibility as parents to judge or shame other parents. Its our job and responsibility to support and spread information and uplift and share tips.
Children are born who they are born, thats the one thing that I think Ive really discovered is youre a part of it, sure, she said. And youre nurturing that development and youre hopefully in some way encouraging that development but they are who they are, and they gravitate towards what they gravitate towards. Thats why I wrote that piece on social media a couple of weeks ago just about our journey with food is because Im a first-time mom, this is my first child so Im learning as I go.
In her Instagram post, Reed also said Bodhi had recently shown interest in also eating food and didnt like it served mushy, so the actress took someones advice and started her off on finger foods.
Reed was recently named a celebrity advisor to Raised Real, a plant-based baby food meal service focused on helping parents eliminate time-consuming tasks of making baby and toddler food while maximizing nutrition.
No one told me that not every baby wants to eat mushed banana and jarred sweet potatoes, she told E! News. I didnt realize that. I thought it was that you go from breastfeeding to mushy food to solid food to finger food and thats just the way that is it.
The Twilight star added, Thats something that I discovered that all kids are different and theyre all on their own path, and I really felt compelled to share that because the second a mom shared that with me and I discovered Raised Real, that was what led me to discovering Raised Real was finger foods. The second I discovered that, I was like, Wow, what a relief.
I was a genuine fan of the company, she told E! News. I was just another mom who discovered a wonderful and lets face it, convenient?which is what all moms are looking for?stress-free way of incorporating this into our daily life.
[From E!]
I agree with her that children have a lot of traits inborn and that we should nurture those. She reminds me a little of Jenna Dewan, who just said shes a hippie and she knows it and wasnt at all defensive or haughty about her choices. This is how you do it, celebrities and all humans. You say we?re all learning, we?re all making hard choices, and that we should do what?s right for us (within reason and that doesn?t include not vaccinating our kids). I also like that she was able to parlay this into an endorsement deal that seems genuine for her. This is an actual issue she faced with her baby and it sounds like she used that product and either reached out to the company or they contacted her. This seems like a smart, genuine endorsement and those are the best kind.
As for her relationship with husband Ian Somerhalder, she said, in part, We have a very similar approach to lifestyle and to parenting and hes a very, very special, very caring person and I knew that by the way he parented our animals prior stepping into this chapter. My spidey sense is tingling thats all Im saying about that.

I worry about Nikki Reed, I really do. Theres something off about her relationship with Ian Somerhalder in that he seems controlling. Remember the story they told about how Ian dumped Nikkis birth control down the toilet one by one when they first started dating? They were on vacation in Spain at the time so the prescription would not have been easy to replace. Whats more is that Ian had a friend who was on vacation with them tape Nikki as she freaked out while he discarded her pills. Nikki only learned that the footage existed when they discussed it on a podcast. They did not agree ahead of time that Nikki would go off birth control. So sometimes, when I see photos of Nikki, I analyze them to make sure she looks ok. Reproductive coercion is a form of abuse, although Ian and Nikki acknowledged that, apologized and said that situation did not apply to them.
Anyway these two had a baby together in August of 2017, a little girl named Bodhi Soleil. Nikki recently posted a beautiful photo to Instagram describing how hard it is to get Bodhi to eat baby food and stating that shes still nursing her. Heres the picture and Im excerpting the caption below so its easier to read:

Nikki Reed got a gig as a Tom?s of Maine spokesperson, which seems like a great company to represent and on brand for her. She?s all about being natural and is an animal lover, but surprisingly she?s not a vegan. She?s vegetarian and doesn?t eat meat but she?s more into balance and doing the best you can, she described it in a 2016 interview with Cosmo. Anyway Nikki had to get quoted so she claims that her face changed due to switching her diet and that she hasn?t had a nose job or veneers. I don?t think people were calling her out for being plastic but she?s explaining it anyway. She also had some advice about looking into the products we use and eat and making sure we know what we?re consuming. This reminds me of the great thread we had a couple of days ago in Kaisers story about Goops expensive skincare recommendations.
After years of ?unhealthy living,? the actress and new mom began to pay closer attention to the ingredients in her food and beauty products ? and the notable results have altered her appearance so much that she can hardly recognize her younger self. ?I looked like a totally different person,? she tells PEOPLE.
Fans have noticed too ? and some are quick to assume that her new look is the result of plastic surgery. ?It?s amazing what a little inflammation due to unhealthy living can do to the bridge of your nose, or your pores, or your teeth,? the 30-year-old says of her younger self. ?I have even read false things about myself like that I had a nose job, or veneers. Funny enough, I haven?t done a single thing to my face, except changed my lifestyle and reduced my chemical intake.?
The lifestyle changes she?s made ? from carefully considering product ingredients to taking up Acro Yoga ? have helped the actress to look and feel healthier than ever. ?What people don?t realize is that it?s all connected. What you put in your body affects not just your insides, but [also] your outsides and your mind. And inversely, what you put on your body affects your insides as well.?
Reed has long been conscious of what goes into the food and products that she chooses, but she felt a renewed dedication to researching ingredients when she learned she was pregnant with daughter Bodhi in May 2017.
?Suddenly I was thinking about the health and wellness of another human being sharing my body, and I wanted to create the best home in there for her as possible,? she explains. ?I remember reading labels on products that I used regularly that said ?not safe for pregnant women,? and thinking, ?That?s strange, I wonder why it isn?t safe for me now that I?m expecting? What is it in these products that would be deemed okay for me a few months ago, and now they?re off limits?? ?
?You don?t have to do everything all at once,? she insists. ?I would definitely start with the things you use every day, like your face cream, just to have an understanding of what you?re putting into your body the most. Change one thing, like your lipstick, or your mouthwash, or your deodorant.? And it can all be done on a budget, she adds.
[From People]
I think my face looks different when I gain three pounds or have a cold. I was sick last week and I swear I looked all puffy from that, so I believe her that she hasn?t had anything done. Also I believe her that when you eat better your face looks different. (Or when you go on and off birth control. I hope shes ok in her current relationship.)
In terms of her new endorsement deal, I use Tom?s of Maine deodorant because I?m sensitive to perfume and I?ve heard bad things about aluminum-based deodorants. (Apparently there?s not a lot of scientific evidence for that. Also this is not a paid post but if Tom?s wants to send me some free deodorant I would love that and talk them up.) I still use commercial toothpaste though. That?s good advice to just change one thing at a time, I?ve heard that for so many other changes you want to make in your life too, like with diet or exercise. I?ve never really wanted to give up the bad stuff, just have less of it. I?m that way about makeup and personal care too. I may be chemically sensitive but I want good colors and makeup that lasts. I?ve never gone full health food store with my personal care. Sometimes I think about Lily Tomlin?s fate in The Incredible Shrinking Woman though, like these products have a cumulative effect and are gradually diminishing me. That was such a good movie.

Love never dies when you?re a vampire, and two of our favorite pop culture bloodsuckers are celebrating their second wedding anniversary. Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder and Twilight?s Nikki Reed celebrated their second wedding anniversary on Wednesday. They commemorated the event by sharing wedding photos and mushy sentiments all over Instagram, as celebrities are wont to do.
38-year-old Ian posted a photo from the dance floor at their 2015 wedding, which took place in California?s Topanga Canyon, with a flowery caption gushing about his bride. Ian called Nikki ?the most amazing human in the world? and added, ?Thank you for being my best friend the hardest-working, kindest, most patient and most talented woman I’ve ever known.?
To the most amazing human in the world. Thank you for 2 incredible years of marriage. Today, two years ago to the minute, we said "I do" and I couldn't be happier or more grateful to you for this life. Thank you for being my best friend the hardest-working, kindest, most patient and most talented woman I've ever known. To you my love, I say that I know we will have so many of these we can't even count them. Partly because I'll be so old… I love you
