When Pat Sajak announced his retirement from Wheel of Fortune, suddenly the spotlight was on Vanna White and whether she would stay. Vanna wants to stay, and she was already negotiating her new contract with her new ballbuster lawyer when Sajak announced his retirement. As it turned out, Vanna hired the lawyer because she hasn?t gotten a raise in 18 years, and she?s asking for half of what Pat Sajak made he made about $15 million per year, so she probably wants about $7.5 million a year, as opposed to the $3 million she?s made annually for the past 18 years. When Ryan Seacrest was announced as Sajak?s replacement, I had a really bad feeling that Seacrest would find some way to oust Vanna. Well, guess what? Vanna?s getting the vibe that producers believe she?s ?replaceable.?
Vanna White feels like Wheel Of Fortune bosses think she is replaceable and have a lack of respect for her after they hired Ryan Seacrest as longtime host Pat Sajaks successor without offering her a chance to take on the role. A source close to White, 66, told DailyMail.com exclusively that she was disappointed that they made a decision about Seacrest, 48, so quickly with show executives announcing Seacrest as the new host less than two weeks after Sajak, 76, publicly revealed he was retiring.
She was disappointed that they didnt give her more of a chance to take over Pats job, or that she wasnt able to give her two cents on the replacement, the insider said. She didnt assume they would be making the announcement of his replacement so soon.
The source was quick to emphasize White had nothing but respect for Ryan and will be happy to work with him, but it just shows a lack of respect in her eyes that they have for her. She wants to be with the show for as long as she wants to be on the show, on her terms. She believes she deserves it, the insider added.
It is a major uphill battle, especially when money is involved and she sees the writing on the wall that they think she is replaceable. There will be lots of negotiations, but if she gets replaced and is not given a new contract, she will be beyond heartbroken. This has been her life, it would be just as powerful as a death if she doesnt continue with the show.
The insider further elaborated the transition that the retirement of Wheels longtime executive producer Harry Friedman, 76, in August 2019 was what initially seemed to set in motion a new era for the game show.
Things got a little bit different with the show for Pat and Vanna during COVID, as the atmosphere changed on set once [Harry] left the show and retired, they said. It just wasnt the same vibe? Nobody dislikes anyone, it is just different, and the leverage that Pat and Vanna once had is not there anymore. Pat saw the writing on the wall and thought if there was ever a time to leave, now would be that time.
As for Vanna, the source added: She usually? keeps to herself, comes to work, does her thing, and leaves. She is friendly with everyone, but with the new regime, she doesnt have the clout she once had, is no longer bulletproof, and is unfortunately made to feel replaceable. She doesnt want to retire and leave the show, so she really hopes she doesnt get pushed out. That is the last thing on her list to happen, she wants to stay, but she also wants it to be fair and is going to fight for what she believes in and what she deserves.

Who knew that Wheel of Fortune had all of these backroom politics and in-fighting to the point where Sajak and White would need ?leverage? with one particular producer? I guess the corporate perspective was ?if it ain?t broke, don?t fix it? Vanna and Pat provided an ocean of stability for the game show, but now that Sajak is out, the business believes that it?s worth exploring all kinds of other options. Which I sort of understand from a cold, business perspective. But I think the WoF bosses are really underestimating Vanna?s popularity, and her ability to do reputational damage to the show if she?s treated poorly or fired outright.

While I can?t stand Wheel of Fortune, millions of Americans watch the show and most of those Americans love Vanna White. I?m one of those people I love Vanna White. She probably has one of the highest Q-scores on television, she?s an American institution, she?s unproblematic and naturally glamorous and she seems like an incredibly normal person. Vanna White?s job is co-hosting the show and touching the letter blocks as she struts back and forth on the stage. She?s non-judgemental and supportive of all the contestants. While it?s not a difficult gig, Vanna White has owned that stage since 1982, which is when she was selected as the permanent hostess. Well, Pat Sajak is finally retiring after forty years as the main host of WoF, which led Puck to do some reporting on whether Vanna is staying. As it turns out, Vanna wants to stay and she?s currently trying to negotiate a new contract? with a pay raise. Because Vanna hasn?t had a pay raise in 18 years!!! From Puck:
Vanna White Would Like a Raise: The longtime ?Wheel of Fortune? co-host hasn?t had a pay increase in 18 years. Yes, 18 years. And now, with Pat Sajak leaving, she?s hired an aggressive new lawyer and is finally asking for more.
After I wrote about Wheel of Fortune on Sunday and the impending retirement of host Pat Sajak, a Sony TV source reached out to note one thing I missed: Vanna White, Sajak?s co-host for four decades, is negotiating to continue on Wheel beyond when her deal ends at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. I?ve since confirmed that fact, and it led me down a wild path about ?America?s Game? and what?s going on behind the scenes.
White currently makes about $3 million a year for her duties on the syndicated Wheel, per multiple sources. Sajak makes almost five times as much.
?There?s no real comp for what Vanna does, which means she?s not exactly Jennifer Lawrence or Michelle Williams when it comes to shining examples of pay disparity in Hollywood.
But? that?s a pretty shortsighted way of assessing value, in my opinion. White spends the same time on set as Sajak?more, actually, due to hair, makeup, and wardrobe obligations, my Sony TV source noted. She does way more publicity for the show than Sajak. She?s a personality, part of the show?s look, feel, and, let?s be frank, appeal. Her enthusiasm and silly button segments with Sajak at the end of each episode are fan favorites. And at this point, she?s arguably become more associated with Wheel of Fortune than Sajak is. The duo are in all the Wheel marketing together (unlike the late-night shows), and Sony?s own research shows Vanna?s appeal to women helps drive the show?s older, female viewership. In short, she arguably adds just as much value.
[From Puck]
While $3 million per year is nothing to sniff at, it?s bonkers that is her salary after being on the show for FORTY YEARS. As I said, Vanna White is an American institution. She?s extremely popular, she never does or says anything problematic, she?s beloved by viewers and contestants, and (I suspect) advertisers love her. To not get a pay raise for 18 years? well, I hope she?s hired the best agents and lawyers and gets a big pay raise and a rock solid contract extension. Now that Ryan Seacrest is on board to replace Pat Sajak, I kind of hope theyre setting things up for Seacrest to play second fiddle to Vanna. Seacrest will hate that.

For a writer/blogger, I am bad at most word games. Scrabble leaves me cold. Words With Friends can eat it. Crosswords are the worst! My mind just doesn?t work that way. So occasionally, I do watch Wheel of Fortune, one of the dumbest shows out there but one which has survived because of dummies like me (honestly, I prefer Jeopardy because rando trivia is totally my jam and that?s definitely the way my mind works). Whenever I do watch Wheel of Fortune, I?m amazed that Vanna White still gets paid a huge amount of money to walk back and forth across a stage, lightly tapping letters which light up. It?s a great gig for her and she?s clung to it for 37 years. Vanna?s success is partly due to the fact that she never looked a gift horse in the mouth she knew it was a sweet gig and she never really looked to move beyond it. With Pat Sajak out of WoF for a medical emergency, Vanna has been filling in as host of WoF. So People Magazine decided to do a nice little profile of her. She honestly sounds like a lovely person.
Wheel of Fortune?s Vanna White has been a co-host of the show for 37 seasons (and counting!), but in a few weeks, she?ll take on the role of main host, filling in for Pat Sajak, who had to undergo emergency surgery for a blocked intestine. It?s safe to say that White, 62, has prayed for her colleague?s speedy recovery. ?I grew up religious,? she recently told PEOPLE during a sit-down at her Beverly Hills home. ?I was baptized a Baptist, and I?ve always had my own personal relationship with God.?
The South Carolina-born beauty queen, who landed the Wheel of Fortune gig when she was just 25 after moving to L.A. to continue her modeling career, said she grew up going to church and Sunday school each week. And while she identifies as a Christian, she never likes to preach about it.
?I don?t preach, because everyone?s entitled to their own beliefs,? she shared. ?I don?t judge anyone for whatever religion they are. This is my religion and I speak openly about it, but again, I would never preach.? Still, she firmly believes in the power of prayer. ?I pray every day,? she said.
White said prayer, plus the support she?s received from Wheel fans, has helped her through darker times, like when she lost her fianc in a plane crash in 1986. ?I heard from so many people who had shared the same experience of losing someone instantly in an accident, and that really helped me,? she told PEOPLE. ?I didn?t feel like I was alone. Because when something like that happens, you immediately think you?re the only one.?
She also turned to her faith and her fans when she miscarried her first child just a week after announcing it via a puzzle on the set of the show. ?Obviously I lost the baby, which was devastating after announcing it. The good news is I was able to get pregnant again and had two beautiful, healthy children. ? But losing a child ? there?s nothing good about that,? she told PEOPLE.
While White will only be hosting the show briefly as Sajak recovers before returning to her regular role as letter-turner, she said she has no intention of leaving her beloved job anytime soon. ?We?re one big family,? she said of the Wheel of Fortune cast and crew. ?It?s wonderful.?
[From People]
?I don?t preach, because everyone?s entitled to their own beliefs.? Refreshing. She?s basically a small-town Southern Baptist who has lived in LA for long enough to know that she should keep her nose out of other people?s business. And truly, she?s getting paid millions of dollars to saunter around on stage and that?s it! Bless her. She?s absolutely harmless.
