I actually enjoy musicals and musical theater, but I?ve never been a Wizard of Oz person, nor do I care at all about Wicked. My theory is that the two-part Wicked movies are going to massively bomb. Or worse yet, they?ll be remembered for the project that united Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater. Ari is Ari, we know who she is and what she?s all about. But Ethan Slater has remained a mystery ever since he blew up his marriage to Lilly Jay to be with Ariana last year. Ari and Ethan are still together, even though she usually cycles her men out by now. Well, Ethan covers the latest issue of GQ Hype, and now I know a little bit more about him. For instance, I know that the studio gave him talking points for how to discuss Ariana and the situation with his ex-wife. Some highlights:
He thinks Ariana is a great comedienne: He?d seen Cynthia Erivo onstage as Celie in The Color Purple, he adds, ?and of course Ari?s Ari, and she?s amazing. She?s a comedian who?s also got this crazy voice that can do anything. My unbiased opinion is that she?s one of the best comedians that?s been in a movie in a long time. She?s a genius.?
Falling in love with Ariana on ?Wicked?: ?Obviously, it was a really super big year and I think there was something that was really difficult about things in your private life being commented on and looked at by the public. There were a lot of big changes in private lives that were really happening, so it?s really hard to see people who don?t know anything about what?s happening commenting on it and speculating, and then getting things wrong about the people you love. So just to address that part of it, that feels really hard. But, of course, it was an amazing year and a really beautiful thing, and I?m just really excited. I?m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she?s done on this. She?s poured herself into it. I?m really proud that I got to be there for that part of it, and I?m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.?
On Ariana writing songs about him: ?She?s such an amazing performer, and I think everyone knows how good she is [as] a recording artist and all that?but I?m just really blown away by the songwriting. I love that song.?
How he?s dealing with sudden fame: ?I do a lot of writing. It?s obviously a different kind of writing. I do songwriting?that?s mostly for me, that?s my hobby at this point. And Marshall and I write a lot together. I write a lot on my own, and I think that has been my outlet in a lot of ways. I?ve got an amazing support system of family and friends who I talk to and confide in??something he?s thankful for ?in an industry that can be a little tough, that I?m just starting to get a taste of both sides of. But also, again, some of the hard parts that you?re talking about are the personal-life stuff that everybody in the world goes through. And so I am really focused on the real people in my life, who those things affect, and doing right by every real person and not the Twitter people who comment on it.?
His 2-year-old son: Being a dad, he says gently, ?is the best thing in the world. It?s been an interesting thing to navigate as a new parent. There?s nothing I want to do more than just show you pictures and talk about him because he?s the best and the light of my life. But I also want to give him the opportunity to meet the world on his own terms?to meet the world in an analog way and not through my words.?

His one job was to not make news with this interview and I think he mostly did that. The news is that he spoke at all, the news is that he?s still dating Ariana and he speaks of her adoringly. If and when she?s done with him, he will not bad-mouth her in the press, how could he? And he?s trying to do the right thing by the studio too a little controversy helps the film, but he also wants to look like a professional who can handle this situation, however messy. I?m thinking again of how Lilly Jay was shocked by his affair and how mad she was at Ariana. I hope she?s having a good day.

The news came out this week that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have now permanently relocated to England post-election. Donald Trump ?won? the presidency on November 5th and 6th, which means that Ellen and Portia made the decision pretty quickly to move, right? That?s something people were getting stuck on Ellen is known for her love of real estate, and she owns (or owned) homes in LA, Montecito and Carpinteria. While The Wrap said that Ellen is putting her LA home on the market, what about her other real estate? And when did she buy this new home in the Cotswolds? Well, People Mag had an exclusive about all of that:
Ellen DeGeneres has relocated to the English countryside, a source tells PEOPLE. The former talk show host, whose long-running eponymous series ended in May 2022, has moved abroad after finding a house she fell in love with in the U.K.
Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after, the source says. Just last week, Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were spotted at The Farmers Dog, a pub owned by the English TV presenter and journalist Jeremy Clarkson in the Cotswolds.
They hung out with [Clarksons partner, actress] Lisa Hogan and James Blunt, and The Corrs performed at the pub, the source adds. A representative for DeGeneres did not immediately reply to PEOPLEs request for comment.
A real estate insider back in California tells PEOPLE that the couple sold their estate in the town of Carpinteria in August for $96 million.
DeGeneres is a well-known collector of multimillion-dollar homes, and owns several properties in Southern California. PEOPLE previously reported she sold a Montecito, Calif. home in May 2024 for $32 million after restoring it and another property in the same town she owned for less than a year in April 2022 for $15 million.
In a 2023 issue of The Riv, a local outlet, DeGeneres shared that she has bought and sold over 50 houses. Some of her other properties include a cottage she listed for $6 million in 2022, and a Malibu home that once belonged to Brad Pitt she purchased for $12 million back in 2011.

Wow, so even before Election Day, it looks like Ellen was already preparing for the worst (which happened). Sold the Montecito property in May, sold the Carpenteria property in August, and she was house-hunting in England in October. This says, to me, that while she was definitely worried about a Trump win, Ellen was already formulating a plan to relocate to England regardless. The Trump win just made it easier for her to cut ties with America, if that makes sense. Like, if Kamala Harris had won, I wonder if Ellen and Portia would have kept their LA home as an American base?

Nicole Kidman received one of British GQ?s ?Men of the Year? covers, which I assume makes her their Woman of the Year. It does feel like in the past decade or so, Nicole has completely remade her career. Two things have defined Nicole?s career in her late 40s and 50s: she started producing all of her own projects and she made a pact with herself to work with a female director at least once every other year. Currently, she?s promoting Babygirl, which was directed by Halina Reijn. Nicole wanted to the film because she loved the script though. Some highlights from British GQ:

I love Shaboozey. He?s a first-generation American, born and raised in Virginia! His song ?A Bar Song (Tipsy)? is one of the biggest hits of the year, dominating multiple charts and becoming one of the ?songs of the year.? He received six Grammy nominations, including noms for Song of the Year, Best Country Song and Best New Artist. He also received two CMA nominations, and he was invited to perform at Wednesday night?s CMA awards show. Here?s his performance:

The whole reason why Beyonce made Cowboy Carter is because she was disgusted by how the country music industry treated her when she performed ?Daddy Lessons? with the Chicks in 2016. Eight years later, the response to Shaboozey showed that nothing has changed. From Rolling Stone?s ?Shaboozey Deserves More Than What The CMA Awards Gave Him Including An Apology.?
Shaboozey was on a high coming into the 2024 CMA Awards, having received two nods in his debut year as a nominee and a performance slot to showcase a mix of his breakthrough hit ?A Bar Song (Tipsy)? and his recent single ?Highway.? But what should have been a night of celebrating country ? a genre in which the 29-year-old musician has been a history-making force for the duration of the year ? was plagued by microaggressions being played off as jokes. Shaboozey didn?t get the chance to take the stage in acceptance of either of his nods ? New Artist of the Year or Single of the Year ? but the singer-songwriter was offhandedly mentioned in the winning speech from a category he wasn?t even nominated in.
When Cody Johnson took the stage to accept the Album of the Year trophy for his record Leather, his producer Trent Willmon approached the microphone with a dull joke, quipping: ?I got to tell you, this is for this cowboy who?s been kicking Shaboozey for a lot of years.? Social media users have noted that Willmon could have simply been making a play on the phrase ?kicking booty.? However, that doesn?t necessarily explain why he felt comfortable playing word games with the name of one of the night?s two nominated Black acts.
Shaboozey was born Collins Obinna Chibueze to Nigerian immigrant parents. Growing up in Woodbridge, Virginia, he obtained his nickname-turned-stage name from a high-school football coach who couldn?t (or wouldn?t) properly pronounce his surname. ?Hearing your name [mispronounced] during attendance was always a thing; you felt like you had to make it easier for everyone else to understand,? Shaboozey told Billboard earlier this year. Willmon?s unprovoked jab at the artist highlights the unfortunate normalization of Black culture being diluted in order to make it more accessible to people who won?t make a conscious effort to learn anything about it.
In the particular instance of the CMA Awards, poking fun at Shaboozey?s name had been normalized all night. During the opening monologue, co-host Peyton Manning segued from one sentence into another using the exclamation ?Holy Shaboozey!? as a bridge between the two. Then, co-host Luke Bryan riffed on the success of ?A Bar Song,? joking: ?In Nashville, that?s what we call a Sha-doozey.? Manning promptly, and fittingly, responded: ?That does not sound right at all.? Notably, each artist mentioned in the segment was shown on camera in the audience moments later. Shaboozey was not.
Later in the night, while introducing Shaboozey ahead of his performance, Bryan made another off-hand remark. Manning had just mentioned the reign ?A Bar Song? has experienced at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, where it has spent 17 nonconsecutive weeks, when the artist added: ?His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shaboozey, must be so proud.?

I saw the clip of Trent Willmon?s speech and it felt menacing and racist. The endless jokes about his stage name? like, does no one understand the backstory? RS explains it it is an anglicized nickname of his Nigerian surname. I would maybe MAYBE understand one joke about his name, so long as it was, like, a dad-joke about getting shaboozey?d at the CMA after-party. But the intention of all of these racial microaggressions was to otherize and menace him.
Shaboozey was nothing but gracious in the face of all of that CMA mess. He posted: ?Couldn?t have ever in my wildest dreams imagined being here. Last Sunday, Angelina Jolie attended the Governors Awards. Her 16-year-old son Knox was her date, and they were adorable together. As for Brad? we get it, you?re a sh-tty father. Brad is so out of touch with his kids that he has no idea why they go out of their way to publicly support Angelina. Are we supposed to forget how several of his kids have publicly dropped his surname too? And that Shiloh went so far as legally changing her name to drop ?Pitt??
