It’s hard to believe that this story even has a reason to exist, but when Chelsea Handler appeared on Rosie O’Donnell’s talk show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, their mutual histories of offensive talk collided in grand fashion on the subject of little people.
In retrospect, I guess we shouldn’t be shocked by Chelsea’s insensitivity on any subject. Just in the recent past, she’s been called out by GLAAD for mocking Chaz Bono. Chelsea has recently attempted to take an anti-bullying stance even though she’s one of the biggest bullies out there. Rosie’s record isn’t much better after parodying the Chinese language with a “Ching Chong” rant and then issuing an obligatory (half-assed) apology but only when pressured to do so. Rosie also took great joy in offending Southerners with her “mom in law impression,” which was okay to her because it’s only “comedy” and “What can u do? I come in peace.” Of course, we all know that Rosie would demand much more from anyone who would dare to do an impression of an angry lesbian (I’m not poking fun at lesbians but merely saying that Rosie is often angry and is also a lesbian) or someone who drinks too much, right? No one is allowed to mock Rosie or her pet causes, but she thinks it’s okay for her to make fun of other groups in the name of “comedy.”
Well, Chelsea and Rosie’s discussion about little people wasn’t funny at all, and the Little People of America are opening the topic up for discussion. Here’s the lowdown:
Rosie O’Donnell’s recent interview with Chelsea Handler on her Oprah Winfrey Network talk show is causing big problems for both performers with America’s little people.
One segment of the interview, which took place on “The Rosie Show,” had the two talk show hosts discussing their differing opinions of people with short stature. Basically, Handler loves them while O’Donnell is afraid of them.
“I’m a little ashamed about it [but] I have a mild fear or anxiety around little people,” O’Donnell confessed before asking Handler point blank: “Would you ever do a little person?”
Handler’s quick response: “No, that would be child abuse. I’d never do that.”
“That’s half my issue,” O’Donnell said. “The problem with me is I can’t put the two things together. This is an adult person, a little person … it’s so hard for me.”
Handler takes the opposite view.
“I love little people,” she said. “I want to tackle them. I see them and I want to hold myself down. I bite Chuy [Bravo] sometimes. … He’s so cute and that’s my ultimate body. If you’re going to have a little person, I want that shape, the corpulence.”
Both Handler and O’Donnell’s comments are a big issue for Little People of America, a support group for Americans of short stature due to dwarfism.
Spokeswoman Leah Smith says both viewpoints are equally offensive, but in different ways, so the group has taken the steps of sending separate open letters to Handler and O’Donnell to make their concerns known.
“We decided to separate the two because they are both equally offensive, but separate,” Smith told HuffPost Weird News. “Handler used a lot of ‘pity rhetoric’ when discussing Chuy, saying he couldn’t get a job if not for her.
“For the record, we’re not in need of ‘getting saved.’ We are capable of being successful in any job.”
Although Handler often asks Bravo to do things like dress up in baby clothes, he has publicly said he has no problems with that, saying it’s part of the job. For that reason, Smith said the LPA has no problems with him choosing to take the job.
LPA has a bigger problem with O’Donnell’s comments, because she attributes her feelings to heredity.”My Nana was afraid of the ‘Wizard Of Oz’ munchkins,” she told Handler.
Smith says the comedian is perpetuating “fear-based attitudes.” “Instead of pepetuating these fears, let’s learn how to accept differences,” Smith said.
The Huffington Post contacted representatives for both Handler and O’Donnell, but neither have responded the Little People of America’s comments.
Smith said the group is angry, but doesn’t plan a boycott of either performer.
“We’d rather start a discussion and deal with the issue head on,” she said. “No other group is marginalized like this.”

I agree with the LPA’s statement that no other group is as alienated to such a point within the United States. Our society in general tiptoes around in the name of political correctness when it comes to race and gender, but little people are often treated as mere novelties throughout our culture and are even subjected to cruel practices such as dwarf tossing, which has only recently gathered attention because Peter Dinklage was willing to speak out against the practice.
As far as Chelsea and Rosie’s twin offensive statements of ignorance, I am sad to say that their joint insensitivity is not surprising at all. I’d go into specifics of exactly why Chelsea’s statement that having sex with a little person would be like “child abuse” is an incredibly stupid and hurtful thing to say, but her words really speak for themselves. Rosie tries to explain away her perspective by admitting to being ashamed of her fear of little people, but she’s not fooling anyone away from her own prejudices. Both of these ladies (especially Rosie) are quick to point out only the injustices that matter to them, but they are all too willing to make insensitive and racist comments in the name of comedy. Of course, Oprah is allowing this nonsense to occur on her network, and she wonders why no one is watching.

Here’s Keanu Reeves at the Berlinale film festival promoting a film he produced, Side By Side, which is a documentary on film production – really! It’s described on IMDB as investigating “the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation.” I’ve been watching more documentaries lately, particularly documentary television like Current.tv’s Vanguard. Although this movie sounds dry in concept it could actually be interesting. I love Keanu and want him to do well. Here’s a little more on the film and the fact that it’s been picked up for distribution.
Keanu Reeves has been given a big boost as a movie producer – his latest project has been picked up for U.S. distribution days before its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany.
Side By Side, a documentary about the digital revolution and its impact on traditional filmmaking, features interviews with pioneering directors with James Cameron, David Fincher, George Lucas, David Lynch, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese and Steven Soderbergh.
Tribeca Film bosses have announced they have acquired the North American rights to the film, which they call “a provocative and illuminating journey through the technical and aesthetic implications of the transition from traditional film to digital technology”.
Produced and narrated by Reeves, who also conducted the bulk of the interviews, the film is directed by Chris Kenneally.
It is expected to hit U.S. cinemas this summer (12).

The Hollywood Reporter has a quote from the director, Chris Kenneally, describing the film. “Cinema is at a tipping point. Digital has challenged, and in some ways completely overturned, a process of making movies on photochemical film that has been a tradition for over one hundred years. Side by Side is an intimate conversation between Keanu and the top professionals in the industry about this revolution and its impact.”
I would see it just for Keanu, especially to see him interview people in the industry. He’s such a thoughtful, decent guy and we don’t get enough of him.
Let’s talk about how amazingly young Keanu looks here at 47. It might just be the fact that he’s borderline clean shaven for once, but he looks like he’s botoxed to me in that he’s so smooth and young looking still! Kaiser tells me he’s just a vampire with good genes, though, and she might be right. I guess he’s looked preternaturally young for a while and all the scruff and hair he used to have was disguising it. In the one photo (below) of him looking down while smiling you can see that he has lines and a little puffiness around his eyes. Still, he’s in Hollywood and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s doing a little something to achieve that “15 years younger” look. Maybe some laser resurfacing or something minor.
Here’s my favorite part of these photos, Keanu’s beat to hell sneakers! Look at those things, it’s like he has one pair and refuses to wear any other shoes. My kid is like that, but I try to talk him into changing them up well before the shoes get to that stage.
Here’s Keanu in June of last year for comparison. He sort-of looks the same, just with a beard. There’s something different about his eyes, but that could be due to the fact that he’s smiling.

Tyler stars in the film about a businessman who befriends a single mother (Thandie Newton) who works in his office?s cleaning crew. And I think Tyler?s character is married to Gabrielle Union. Anyway, Thandie wore Temperley London – I actually like the dress. It?s the hair that I don?t understand. Is this high-fashion? Am I too much of a peasant to ?understand? this hairstyle? That?s what it feels like. That?s Thandie?s vibe – the way she walks the red carpet, the way she carries herself – she reminds me of Goop. But I?m biased. I?ve never liked her. And I can?t believe Tyler Perry cast her as a working-class single mother either – that would be like casting Gwyneth Paltrow in that kind of role, right? Some actresses simply can?t play anything but elitist bitches.

The bad news is Scarlett Johansson is currently dating douchey ad exec, Nate Naylor. The good news is, if you’ve ever wanted to steal her away from him, all you’d have to do is walk up to the guy, stare him in the eyes and wait until he runs off and hides in a bathroom. That seems to be what he’s good at.
According to Gawker, Naylor was at a party at a bar in the East Village back in December when he ran into his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend. Without warning, Nate “sucker punched the dude” and bloodied his nose. Nate, fearing the guy would punch him back, then ran to the bathroom and locked himself in. “Security eventually coaxed him out and ejected him.” The victim didn’t press charges and instead just cleaned himself up and continued drinking.
Holy crap. Scarlett Johansson’s boyfriend is a little bitch. He probably ran into the bathroom because he fractured his limp wrist when he punched the guy and wanted somewhere private to cry. I’ve seen five-year-olds with more testicular fortitude.

In a previous interview, Sienna lamented the party girl public image she?s created for herself and hoped to be taken more seriously now that she?s going to be a mother.
?I can't wait to be seen as a woman. But I know I probably have to contribute to that with behavior. I think, if you put a camera in anyone's life and document it daily from the age of 21 to 27, there are going to be things that aren't always pretty. Now, I'm much more calm. It feels like a new, more serious decade."

I?m really surprised that we haven?t been hearing more from Sienna Miller. Maybe she really has changed? She used to be much more in-your-face and she adored being on magazine covers and giving lots of self-pitying interviews. But over the past year or two, she?s been so low-key. Maybe she got burned in the British hacking scandal. Maybe she just found a more low-key guy (Tom Sturridge). Maybe she?s just gotten better at hiding her drama. In any case, these are the first new photos we?ve had of Sienna since her pregnancy was announced (by friends) in early January. She was flying solo in New York at an event for W Magazine – you can see some of the red carpet photos here. On the carpet, she was showing off her bump, but you can?t really see a big difference in these photos. Her face looks a bit fuller. She looks healthy.
Sienna is not wearing an engagement ring in these photos, which means that there?s still speculation about whether she and Tom Sturridge are engaged. Several days ago, there was a photo of Sienna wearing what seemed like a nice-sized, possible three-diamond engagement ring – go here to see the photo. Sources keep telling the British and American tabloids that they are engaged – Life & Style?s source recently claimed, ?They’re engaged and really happy. Her family is pleased, as they absolutely adore Tom. He proposed to Sienna during a romantic trip to Paris after Christmas. He filled their hotel suite at the Ritz with flowers and presented her with a vintage Victorian ring. It was incredibly romantic — she was blown away.” Allegedly, Sienna wants a ?flapper-themed? wedding too – basically, she wants to copy Kate Moss?s wedding. I tend to think they probably are engaged, but that doesn?t mean they?ll actually go through with it. Allegedly, Sienna is due in June – and I don?t think she?d rush into a marriage before she had the baby, right?

Sigh? I miss Kate Winslet?s old face, I really do. I saw this Ladies Home Journal cover staring out at me at the gym, and I was like, ?Damn it, Kate! STOP.? In my opinion, it was a really bad eye job that is still ?settling in.? Plus Botox. Plus lies. Anyway, she covers the March issue of LHJ? for some reason?? Is she promoting a new project or is she just promoting the 3D re-release of Titanic? Who knows. In the LHJ interview, she talks about her charity work, but in another new interview, she discussed the Titanic 3D experience:
On the Titanic re-release: “A whole new generation is going to get to experience the film. It’s very exciting that I can actually sit with them — together — and we can all watch it in a movie theater. That is going to be quite amazing, actually.” Winslet says she’s already seen 17 minutes of 3-D footage, which she deems “extraordinary.”
Watching her old self (and her old face): “I was literally like, ‘Oh my God, make it stop! Is that me? Oh my God, that’s me. Block my ears, somebody! Somebody club out my senses. Make it f-cking stop!’”
She doesn?t think she was a good actress back then: While her costar Leonardo DiCaprio “looks so young and so skinny,” in the 1997 blockbuster, Winslet, 36, admits she’s “slightly freaked out” about seeing her 21-year-old self onscreen again. “I’m sure I wasn’t really a very good actress. Seriously, we are talking about something that happened 15 years ago. It is a very long time ago. I’ve learned so much, and I’ve changed as a person so much since then. It is really quite weird. Can you imagine anything stranger? It’s going to be like famous all over again, Titanic all over again!”
Her Golden Hat Foundation, which raises money/awareness about autism. ?[The biggest misunderstanding is] that they are not capable of understanding anything, that they are completely locked in their own worlds and aren?t paying attention to anything around them or that they are disinterested. Even those closest to them sometimes believe that. And so often that proves not to be the case.?
Teaching her kids about giving back: ?They get a little allowance every week, and they are given an opportunity to match what we put in the family charity box each week. They always put in part of their allowance, so I think their awareness of giving is present.?

I?m not sure what I think about Kate disrespecting her old films like that – she got her first Oscar nomination for my favorite film of hers, Sense & Sensibility, and she was only, like, 19 or 20 years old then. And you know what? I think she might have even been a better actress back then. When was the last time you saw a current Kate Winslet film and walked out thinking ?Kate Winslet is awesome, she nailed that.? Don?t say The Reader. While she was fine in The Reader (not Oscar-worthy, but fine), that movie was terrible. What else do you have? Little Children? Maybe. But I tend to think Kate will always be beloved as an actress because of her early roles in S&S and Titanic. She was simply a more ?natural? actress back then. She was fresh and different and interesting to watch. Not so much any more.

Justin Theroux was in charge of throwing Jennifer Aniston a birthday party this year. She just turned 43, and on Saturday, Justin rented out the penthouse suite of the Chateau Marmont and invited all of Aniston’s celebrity friends to the party. There were even some blurry photos of Justin and Jen making out on the balcony – and of Aniston lighting up. So much for her claim that she?s quit smoking – although she probably has ?quit? and she maybe just decided to light up for her birthday? Quitting smoking is hard, and that?s the way you rationalize it – ?It?s my birthday, I can have one cigarette!? And soon you?re back to smoking every day. Us Weekly has more about the party:

An insider tells Us Weekly that the actress’ hot-and-heavy beau Justin Theroux rented out a penthouse suite overlooking West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip and threw his girlfriend a party where A-list pals including Courteney Cox, Chelsea Handler, Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Stiller, Emily Blunt and Jason Bateman turned out to celebrate.
“There was minimal decor with white hurricane candles lining the room and the balcony. A bar was set up inside along with a table where guests put presents,” the insider tells Us of party’s atmosphere. “It was a cold night, but there were heaters on the patio. There were servers walking around with appetizers and jazz music playing.”
Donning her go-to all-black garb, Aniston worked a sleeveless black dress and sipped on martinis while she happily made her way around the room to spend time with each of her guests.
“She seemed very excited to see her friends, but she never got too far from Justin,” the insider tells Us. “Every once in awhile, Justin would come up from behind and give her a big hug and kiss. They would embrace and whisper to each other for a minute but then go back to socializing. She seemed very relaxed.”
“The party went late night and many people stayed past midnight,” the insider adds. “Jen and Justin were some of the last people to leave.”

So, she?s drinking martinis and smoking cigarettes. The girl?s not preggo. And she?s probably not trying to get pregnant either. Which is fine? her body, her choice. It?s only noteworthy because her fans want her to get pregnant so much, and she plays into that desire too often.
Is anyone else surprised that Courteney Cox was there? It seems like Aniston and Cox have been avoiding each other for a while – pretty much as long as Chelsea Handler is cozying up to Aniston. Cox has been avoiding the two of them. I wonder which ?friend? Justin Theroux prefers?
PS… Ten bucks says the Marmont’s crackie-in-residence Lindsay Lohan tried to crash the party. Right?

Some of the shots are NSFW, as they contain butt cheek and other cracked-out body parts. I think Linnocent is aiming for ?sexy? but she just looks like a really haggard call girl who needs a nap.
If that wasn?t enough, Uncle Terry and the Cracken have been spending a lot of time partying together lately, and, of course, Uncle Terry has put photos up on his Diary. He snapped pics of Lindsay at the amFAR gala, and at some party for Purple Magazine a few nights ago. This is after his spectacularly busted photo shoot with LL at the Marmont last week. Yikes.
And the final problem – Terry Richardson is now doing photo shoots with Ali Lohan. That?s so? sad. Depressing. Sketchy. Tragic. Also: what the hell is Ali doing to her face? She?s going to her sister?s lip injection guy, right?

Kim Kardashian covers the March issue of Allure Magazine. I feel like she was just on the cover a few months ago? yes, I?m right. She was on the cover last September. Damn, Allure. Give a cover to someone other than Kat-face! Anyway, this cover is ?unique? because, as Kim says, ?We went for a very low-key, natural look!? She?s not claiming to have gone completely ?natural? obviously, but I guess we?re supposed to be impressed by the fact that she isn?t wearing four pounds of foundation and gigantic spider-leg false eyelashes. She looks okay on the cover? I mean, meh, whatever. These photos were obviously taken before her last round of lip injections and Botox. She still wants kids: “Do I want kids of my own? Absolutely. But I don’t know if that’s what’s meant for me. Maybe I’ll just work, work, work, and not think about it.”
Watching her 72-day marriage crash and burn: “Is it tough to watch [the show]? Yeah. Tough to see an unhappy time in your life. Do I think there are more haters than before? Not really. But I think this has given them a platform to have a louder voice.?
Reality shows and limits: ?Will I be more private of a person? Am I more guarded? Absolutely,” she says. “But, also, I’m a firm believer that my show is who I am. People [think] because you film your life on a reality show, you live everything for the cameras. But we all have limits. My mom has no limits. We need someone, right, to have no limits? That’s my mom. When I saw Khlo and Lamar get married?and they had their wedding on TV?I thought, Oh, my gosh, that’s so exciting! That’s what I want! If you were to ask me now, that’s not what I want.”
Future relationships: If Kardashian has regrets about sharing so much of her personal life on camera, she doesn’t dwell on them. Still, she says, the experience “definitely made me want to be more private with my relationship, whenever I choose to get into one again. I’m not ready, but when that time comes, I’ll be more cautious about who I let my world open up to.”
?Joking? about surrogacy: ?Khlo joked with me and said, ‘Will you be my surrogate?’ I said, ‘I think I have a couple more years when I just want my body to myself. At 35, I promise I’ll consider it.’”
As for her future wedding? “I would just want it to be so special, with our family and close friends, and that’s it. Somewhere on a deserted island, very private,” she says, lowering her gaze. “No cameras.”

Blah. I guess Kim is trying to sell an image of herself as ?the girl who is still a hopeless romantic, but she?s just more cautious now.? Is that it? The only thing that bugged me was the stuff about Khloe ?jokingly? asking Kim to be her surrogate – was it really a joke? I hope Khloe is able to get pregnant herself. I hope she doesn?t have to ask her sisters to help her out, because those bitches will act like friggin? martyrs if they actually went through with it.

Here are some photos from last night?s Sarajevo premiere of In the Land of Blood and Honey. Angelina Jolie must have exhausted her printed and neutral dress supply, because she?s back in black. And I don?t hate it. I find this dress to be very elegant and only slightly dated. Should I judge Angelina for wearing a dress that Nancy Reagan probably wore to a State Dinner during the Reagan administration? Or should I just accept that this is who Angelina is – she is the woman who likes shoulder pads, big jewelry and 1980s glamour. Brad looks especially nice here – he?s not wearing those friggin? tinted glasses, and that beautiful coat is getting a lot of action in Europe, isn?t it? He?s worn it in London, Berlin and now Sarajevo.
According to this report at the Washington Post (read the full piece here), Angelina greeted the 5,000-strong crowd with a few words in Bosnian, then she gave a little speech in English. After the film, she got a standing ovation, which made her cry, and she said, ?To share this with you means the world to me.?
At a press conference earlier in the day (in Sarajevo), Angelina talked about the need for a ?wake up call? for the international community to pay attention to war crimes and atrocities in real time. She made some pointed comments about the situation in Syria too – ?I am satisfied with what we made, I feel very strongly about it and I believe that its core issue ? which is the need for intervention and need for the world to care about atrocities when they are happening ? is very, very timely and especially with things that are happening in Syria today.? Wait? so she?s saying that we need to get involved in Syria? I mean? I understand the humanitarian argument, sure. But there?s so much more at play in Syria than encouraging America to get on a white horse and ?save the day.? Will the proponents of force say that we?ll be greeted as liberators? Again? Angelina has the heart of a neo-conservative, I swear.
She also addressed concerns by the Serb community that they are being portrayed as ?the bad guys? in the film: ?I think it is very important that this film is out at this time and … if this film points the finger at anybody it is the international community. I understand that it?s sensitive. But I also know that the Serbian people are intelligent and open-minded people. They will know the difference between what?s been forced upon them and what they feel in their own hearts? although it?s difficult, I hope that they see intention behind it.? In a rare move, Angelina is also arranging ?private screenings? for Serbs who are interested in seeing the film – she will even send the film to someone?s home, if they are interested.
Oh, and we need to talk about this hilarious photo of Angelina and the cast of ITLOBAH. Why does Goran Kostic look like that? He?s all ?FML.? Dude!

Swimsuit model Kate Upton swapped her bikini for a sassy red dress as she arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Tuesday (February 14).
The nineteen year old showed off the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover before heading inside for her interview on the "Late Show with David Letterman".
Earlier this morning Kate also made an appearance on the "Today" show and talked about being a model, saying, ?Well, in my opinion... you know everyone talks about how the age of the supermodel is dead... but I don?t think it?s dead. As she closes in on her due date, the very pregnant Hilary Duff spent Valentine's Day afternoon out and about in Beverly Hills, CA.
Wearing a bump hugging sweater, denim skirt and fringe boots, the "Cheaper By the Dozen" star - who's just one month away from giving birth - was spotted satisfying her pregnancy cravings at Cabbage Patch restaurant.
Meanwhile, it looks like Miss Duff's husband, Mike Comrie, is set to be getting a lot more daddy time.
The hockey star announced this morning that he?ll be retiring from playing professional hockey, as he said, ?My career has afforded me a series of phenomenal opportunities to play and become friends with some of the greatest people I have ever known and some of the greatest players who have ever played this game.?
However, as Duff noted, Comrie?s hip just doesn?t seem to be able to handle the constant strain of his hockey career.
Hilary tweeted, ?As many of u know mike has announced his retirement. It?s a bittersweet day! He had a wonderful career! But 3 hip surgeries in 5 years is alot!?
