| Emily Ratajkowski: 'A selfie is a sort of interesting way to reclaim the gaze' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Emily Ratajkowski has fashioned a second/third career for herself as a feminist who speaks out on issues of nude equality. It?s a weird thing to write, but it?s actually true. Emily is a model, an actress, and she talks about feminism and nudity. Those are her jobs now. Emily did an editorial for the new issue of Harper?s Bazaar ? the August issue, on stands on July 19th ? and an interview with feminist writer/thinking Naomi Wolff. I?m not going to post the photos because Emily is completely naked, but you can see the NSFW pics here at HB. The interview is what I wanted to discuss! Emily is once again talking about the double standards (and double standards within double standards) of female nudity, how we as a society react to women?s bodies, body-shaming and much more. She even talks about that Kim Kardashian stuff from a few months ago. Some highlights:
When she became a model: ?Fourteen, but I looked exactly the same as I do now. They didn’t know what to do?I looked like a woman. I genuinely hit puberty before everyone. So I really was more sexual than my classmates. My teachers, my boyfriends, my parents’ friends didn’t understand how complex it all was. Because of third-wave feminism, I understood that there are all these f–ked-up ideals of beauty put on young women; that there was something to be scared about in the entertainment world. But yet the people I knew in my everyday life, they [didn't realize] their faux pas, their missteps, and since they knew me it was that much harder because the comments felt personal.
The ideal world: ?I loved in your book The Beauty Myth when you talk about this ideal world where women could dress sexually casually and it wouldn’t even be something that anyone would notice. For me, that’s something I’ve lived by. I don’t wear a bra all the time, and I don’t think about it.?
Her defense of Kim Kardashian: ?A selfie is a sort of interesting way to reclaim the gaze, right? You’re looking at yourself and taking a photo while looking at everyone. But also who cares? Kim’s allowed to do what she wants. So I issued a series of tweets; she sent me flowers, thanking me, which was very sweet? Also, Kim is someone who could be criticized for a lot of different things about what she represents, but to me it was an important moment to say, ?Even this person who you could criticize for all these different things doesn’t deserve this response, right???
On society?s contempt when women take ownership of their sexuality & bodies: ?Kim said that to me. You know, when Lena Dunham takes her clothes off, she gets flack, but it’s also considered brave; when Justin Bieber takes his shirt off, he’s a grown-up. But when a woman who is sexual takes off her top, it plays into something. But there is a distinction in the reaction between, for example, Kim taking off her shirt and Lena. It’s not fair to either of them.
On the ideal body: ??The world should not be exclusive of the ideal body. It has to include all ideals, all bodies. The whole idea is that when Kim takes a nude selfie, she’s just seeking attention. That’s not the issue. A woman can be seeking attention and also make a statement. They don’t need to be mutually exclusive.
Sex is normal: ?That’s something we really forget in this world, especially in my industry and being in the public eye as a female. There’s this idea that if a man enjoys a photograph of a nude woman or if he likes your short skirt, he’s taking something away from you. It’s not right. Sex is normal. Desire is normal. Attention is normal, and that’s okay. That’s really what slut shaming is, right? You talk about this in your book Promiscuities. A woman talks about having sex, and it’s like, well, a guy got to have sex with you, so you’re stupid. You’ve given something up.?
[From Harper?s Bazaar]
I?ll say it: I don?t hate anything she says here. In fact, she articulated several points better than I would have been able to, perhaps because Naomi Wolff was there. Emily really brought her A-game. At one point, Wolff and Ratajkowski also talked about how some celebrity women are shamed for being thirsty, for wanting attention, and Wolff basically says that it?s a way of shaming women for being ambitious, for thinking that they are someone special, that they are actually noteworthy. That was a great point, as was the part about how it?s perceived that men are ?taking away? something from women by finding them desirable, that a sexually desirable woman is giving up something by being sexual or desirable. God help me, I?m becoming an Emily Ratajkowski fan.

Justin Timberlake is having a rough couple of weeks. And it couldn?t have happened to better person. I think JT is still on a lot of people?s sh-tlists because of how he responded to being called out for cultural appropriation following the BET Awards. And now this: Justin Timberlake has signed on to Woody Allen?s new movie. Oh, no! JT, someone should have told you that this was actually a really bad move.
Justin Timberlake and Juno Temple have joined Kate Winslet and Jim Belushi in Woody Allen?s untitled new movie. The film, written and directed by Allen, is a drama set in New York City in the late 1950s. Allen is producing with Letty Aronson, Erika Aronson and Edward Walson. The pic marks Allen?s 48th feature and begins shooting in New York this fall.
Allen is in post-production on his first-ever television show ? an untitled six-episode series he wrote and directed for Amazon starring himself, Miley Cyrus and Elaine May. It will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video later this year.
[From Variety]
Ha, this is the same film with Kate Winslet! Now I really don?t need to see it, and now we know that this promotional tour will be the biggest hot mess that ever messed itself. Woody Allen + Kate Winslet + Justin Timberlake = absolutely terrible. The script could be the second coming of Annie Hall and no one would watch it. Let me guess, Timberlake will be playing the nebbish ?funny? writer who talks a lot and all of the women are enamored. Dear Winslet: pull out now!

Here are some photos from last night?s LA premiere of Equals, the sci-fi dystopian film starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult. They made this film a few years back, and it?s been making the rounds at film festivals, with pretty good results. Critics generally like-but-not-love the film, and it?s currently sitting at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes (better than The Legend of Tarzan!).
Kristen and Nicholas both looked nice for the big LA premiere. Hoult wore a suit by Dolce & Gabbana, and I?m sort of hoping that Hoult becomes the new Hiddles, you know? He?s handsome, he gives interesting interviews, he?s tall and leggy and he?s a great dresser. We need more Hoult in our lives!
As for Kristen, she wore this Jonathan Simkhai Resort 2017 dress which looks like a lot of the dresses and gowns she wore towards the tailend of the Twilight promotion. Lots of lacy/sheer lingerie looks, and I suspect that Kristen thinks lace/sheer gowns look ?fancy? and ?feminine.? Like, she?s putting on a show for us, and this is what she thinks we want from her. Personally, I would rather see her in one of her beloved miniskirts, accessorized with spiked jewelry, just because I think that?s her real style. I?m okay with this dress, but the hair? my God. I need Kristen to do something different. Like, either choose blonde or choose brunette but this two-tone thing is awful. And try washing your hair too.
I?m including bonus photos of Charlie Hunnam, who attended the premiere as well. He looked great. He was supposed to have a big summer film out this year too, but King Arthur is probably a gigantic mess and the release was pushed back to March 2017.

| Scarlett Johansson: 'It's my absolute greatest joy to change dirty diapers' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As we discussed a week ago, Scarlett Johansson was named the highest-grossing actress of all time by Box Office Mojo. She?s the only woman in the top-ten list of highest grossing actors, but the list is like fifty people long and other women made the list, just not in the top ten. ScarJo?s success (or the success being attributed to her) mostly comes from the Marvel films and from her voice work on projects like Disney?s The Jungle Book. Anyway, Extra caught up with Scarlett and she had some thoughts about the list and being a working mother in Hollywood:
It?s good to be Scarlett Johansson. The actress, who was just named the highest-grossing actress of all time, also received the Renaissance Award at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s annual gala in Chicago. When ?Extra? caught up with the ?Captain America? star, who looked stunning in a blue Oscar de la Renta dress, she said she was both happy and disappointed about the highest-grossing achievement, as she trailed behind nine actors.
She explained, ?It’s exciting to be the only woman in the category,? while noting, ?it?s disappointing to be the only woman actually, that was a little bit of a surprise to me.?
The 31-year-old also opened up about being a working mom in Hollywood, ?If somebody has the magic recipe for making being a working mom easy, let me know? working moms two thumbs up.?
She loves spending time with her 22-month-old daughter Rose, even when it involves changing dirty diapers. Scarlett said with a smile, ?It’s my absolute greatest joy to change dirty diapers.?
She revealed her technique for getting it done, ?I usually try to have something on hand to be distracting, a toy, a song, never works by the way, my daughter still hates it, she hates it.?
[From Extra]
As I said, Scarlett was not the only woman on the list, she was the only woman in the top ten. Cameron Diaz is #19, HELENA BONHAM CARTER is #26, Cate Blanchett is #29 ? you can see the list here. Basically, you have to be part of some kind of huge franchise (or multiple franchises) to crack the top thirty. So ScarJo is technically incorrect when she says she?s ?the only woman in the category,? but she’s right in a general sense because it’s depressing to see how few women are included in the most financially successful films.
As for changing dirty diapers? better her than me. I wonder if her husband is much help in the diaper department.

Well, well. Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift arrived in Australia last night (EST), although don?t even ask me what time it was in Australia. They crossed the International Date Line and trying to do the math on that always confuses me. I do know that they were wearing the same clothes as their LAX appearance, which means that they don?t do a carry-on clothing change, not even for long-haul flights.
