It feels like Jessica Alba just covered The Edit a few months ago, but I?m probably thinking of her recent Allure cover or something. In the past few years, Alba has been more and more engaged and engaging in the media, but it?s not for any movie role ? it?s always about The Honest Company, Alba?s billion-dollar company. In The Edit, Alba chats with Tory Burch, her friend and a fellow lady CEO. The whole piece is actually pretty interesting ? go here to read. Some highlights.
Alba on whether she was underestimated: ?Certainly people in Hollywood underestimated me. They absolutely, 100 percent thought I was nuts. In Hollywood they don?t really build businesses, so they don?t really understand what I?m doing. It?s hard for people to take you seriously when you?re known for entertaining, because there are preconceived ideas of what it is to be an entertainer. But you have to have a lot of heart [to be an actor], a lot of drive. You face a lot of rejection, too, and it takes a certain kind of person to withstand that.?
Alba isn?t just some actress/model: ?People are used to seeing someone in my position associated with a brand through an endorsement deal: you show up, they give you your talking points, you say those things, maybe you?re on a couple of billboards, that?s it. I am not that person. I think a bunch of actresses feel like, ?Oh, I have this platform and all these people are making money off of me, I should be able to get a piece of that,? and that?s where their intentions are.?
How she deals with criticism: ?It pisses me off! But as a woman, as an actress, I?ve dealt with that before. I?ve dealt with people undermining me; I?ve dealt with people thinking that I would do anything to get ahead and be successful. I was never that girl. I never dated people to be successful, I never compromised myself, or my beliefs, or my values to get ahead. And you know, in a weird way, I liked it when they didn?t believe in me. It fueled me.?
Working motherhood: ?My girls ask why I work, but I think it?s more of a rhetorical question at this point; they just want to spend time with me. Kids don?t want to be understanding. And they shouldn?t be at this age! When they are 18 they will have perspective, but at four and seven they are just living in their own little world, and it?s all immediate gratification. Sometimes I do a better job at turning off, but right now I have just launched Honest Beauty, with 87 products, and I?m not doing a great job at managing my time. I?m traveling too much, I?m staying at the office too late, and I don?t know how to shut off completely when I go home. But it?s challenging to be a working parent, whether you are a woman or a man.
The gendered words, like ?bossy? or ?difficult?: ?I?ve actually felt this more in the entertainment industry. People never say a male actor is difficult, they call him smart, but if a woman did the same thing, she would be considered a bitch? I find it funny when I get called ambitious! I?ve even had my agents do intros and say, ?She?s a very ambitious young lady.? And I?m always like, ?What the f–k does that mean?!?

Before Cash Warren, Alba was never really in showmances (although she was engaged to Michael Weatherly early on) and it definitely felt like she wasn?t parlaying much of her personal life for professional gain. As for gendered words? I agree that ?bossy? is a gendered word, and ?difficult? has a gendered context too. But ?ambitious? to me can go either way. Like, Leonardo DiCaprio is really ambitious this year. It?s his ambition to hustle his way into the Best Actor Oscar. See?

Here is Selena Gomez, 23, in red metallic Givenchy at the AMAs. On E!’s red carpet they were gushing about her 2011 AMA’s Versace gown, which was amazing and hung on her in all the right places. This dress, on the other hand, was pretty limp and loose. I don’t understand why she chose this gown.
Her performance outfit, which was a combination of large granny panties and a bra (ala Taylor Swift) covered by a sheer sequin catsuit, was much better. (Her outfit underneath was a combination of Kiki de Montparnasse and Suzy Yun and the catsuit was Jolibe. You can see her performance of “Same Old Love” here. She did a great job but I was distracted by her ridiculously long extensions.) People were wondering if Selena and Bieber might do something together at the AMAs due to their big night out Friday but they just did their separate performances.

Chloe Grace Moretz, 18, was in this black Saint Laurent gown that just looks like lingerie. The 90s are coming back, complete with chokers, and as much as I loved that decade some of the fashion should have stayed there. At least she looks like she’s having a good time. Oh and she had those two goofy barrettes in her hair when she was presenting and I found them distracting. What purpose do they serve? They’re Goody metal barrettes!
Nina Dobrev is like a young Kate Beckinsale at this point, always gorgeous but sometimes overdone. She was overdressed in this skirt, top and jacket combination by Zuhair Murad. She looked great and I love to see what she’s wearing, but this is too formal for the AMAs.
Jenny McCarthy looked like a demented elf when she was presenting last night. Her hair was too yellow, she had on those really fug black glasses, and that hairstyle was unflattering to say the least. Her outfit is Versace. It’s all red and her thigh high boots are a totally different hue than that 70s throwback dress. Whatever.
Paula Abdul was onstage with Donnie Wahlberg in honor of him presenting an award to her in the 90s. She looked amazing on the red carpet in this tight little sequin v-neck mini and while presenting she wore a sheer and lace Charbel Zoe Couture gown. Her wig was kind of obvious but Paula Abdul is 53 years old! I want to know her workout routine.

American Idol alum and voice of the Sunday Night Football theme song on NBC (which always perks my boyfriend up), Carrie Underwood, chatted with E! in advance of last night’s American Music Awards performance (of her new single, “Heartbeat”, which you can see here). The 32 year-old singer, who won the award for Favorite Female Country singer, talked about life possibly not imitating art as far as romance is concerned, life as a Mom and her dream duet. Carrie, married to Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher, can write a hell of a song about revenge (“Before He Cheats”) and a song that makes this non-smoker want to light one up (Smoke Break”), but she claims writing romantic songs like “Heartbeat” is truly a challenge.
It’s a lot coming from me. I don’t do romance very well, at least not in my music. But I felt like when we were writing it, it was just so genuine and I think that’s one of my problems with love songs. It’s all like fairy tales and bubblegum and butterflies. That’s just not reality. I felt like as we were writing it, it was so conversational and this is my life. This is me and my husband just needing to be alone. It doesn’t have to be all presents and Romeo and Juliet. It can be simple and lovely.

Carrie went on to say that she and Mike are definitely out of the “honeymoon phase” of their marriage, since their 9 month old son Isaiah has become the center of attention, with Carrie describing him as a “squirmy kid.” And, come on, nothing says romance like “poopy diapers”, right?
As for Carrie’s dream duet, anyone who saw her faithful cover of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Paradise City” at 2013?s CMA Music Festival would not be surprised that she’d love to share the stage with Axl Rose, admitting “people like him [who] taught me how to sing. They were so different. I look at people like him and Freddie Mercury, those people who were doing all these crazy runs. It was so different.”
Of course, since Carrie and Brad Paisley made a few jokes at the expense of Blake Shelton at the recent CMA Awards, when asked what she thought of the pairing of Blake and Gwen Stefani, Carrie (who counts Blake’s ex, Miranda Lambert, as a friend) diplomatically said, “I have not seen them together yet. You just hope everybody’s happy or will be happy.”

The fashion from the AMAs last night was pretty underwhelming, as Kaiser mentioned. There was a lot of skin showing overall and only a few celebrities really brought it. (Exceptions: Ciara and maybe Kat Graham)
Demi Lovato went for a more mature look in this fitted Lorena Sarbu sequin backless gown. (It actually had a sheer nude panel along the back.) She looks decent in photos, but on camera her styling was atrocious. She was wearing way too much makeup, which was just too dark, especially paired with that shellacked hair. Plus Demi told Guiliana during the E! red carpet special that she picked her hair and makeup to go with that dress. So this severe style is on her somewhat, although I suppose her makeup artist could have toned it down. Demi performed “Confident” last night, and you can see the video here.
Kat Graham, on the other hand, really worked this white and rainbow striped strapless Georges Chakra gown. This is a little over the top for the AMAs but the sheer skirt kind of balances it out and it’s somehow classic and whimsical at the same time. There’s a cool print on the stripes. Check out her eye makeup too, she has yellow shadows at the corners of her eyes.
Zendaya Coleman was in this bubblegum Pink Ungaro minidress paired with Louboutin heels. This is cute and fun for the AMAs and I love the 70s vive. She was interviewed by E!’s Terrence Jenkins, not Giuliana (remember her issue with Giuliana?) and I swear she said she did her own makeup. She talked about giving herself enough time to get ready and do her makeup. She also said she snacked on microwave mac and cheese while getting ready.
Speaking of Giuliana Rancic, she was in this silver metallic and black mesh Gabriela Cadena gown. She told Terrence that it looked heavy but was lightweight and comfortable. I really liked this on her on camera. It the photos it looks meh. I also enjoy her red carpet interviews, she asked a lot of celebrity women about their kids and she got some fun answers. Terrence did an incredible job too, he’s hilarious. At one point he was interviewing Terry Crews and his wife, who were talking about a “90 day sex fast” they went on at a therapist’s suggestion. Terry was going on about how beneficial it was for their relationship and Terrence shut it down, “I can’t let you continue selling this, it’s going to hurt a lot of fellas.”
Alicia Silverstone, 39, was in a gold metallic Christian Siriano gown. She looks incredible. Alicia and Jeremy Sisto presented together in a mini Clueless reunion. It’s been 20 years since Clueless came out!

Here are some photos from last night?s Evening Standard Theater Awards in London. The biggest fashion moment came courtesy of Salma Hayek, who was there to present an award to the people who presented the McQueen Savage Beauty show.
Sigh? quite honestly, Salma Hayek and I have similarly-sized breasts. In the past, I?ve worked cleavage-y stuff and the low cut styles make me feel sexy. Ladies who are well-endowed know that it?s a double-edged sword though. One woman?s ?sexy? is another woman?s ?trashy.? While I?m sure Salma was feeling sexy in this McQueen gown, I tend to believe she looks tacky as hell with this much skin showing. The gown simply isn?t flattering for a curvy, busty woman. Beyond that? I kind of don?t even think her boobs look all that great here. And I kind of think that she wore something so revealing because her face looks different/weird.
Here?s Nicole Kidman, also in Alexander McQueen. She loves lace dresses so much, right? For a lace dress, it?s okay. Not great.
Kate Beckinsale in Alberta Feretti. I love the dress, actually. This was her first red carpet since the news came out about her separation from Len Wiseman. She was not wearing her ring, for those of you on Ring Watch.
I can?t even tell you how little I?m feeling for James McAvoy these days, now that he?s completely shorn. My crush increases with his hair growth. He wore Burberry. He also took home the Best Actor award for The Ruling Class.

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello got married on Sunday in Palm Beach, Florida. If I?m being honest, I?m a little bit surprised that the wedding went off without a hitch. I expected them to have the big wedding of course, but I thought there would be more drama around it. But it seems like Joe was marrying his dream girl and Sofia was marrying the only boyfriend she?s had in a decade who isn?t bothered by the fact that she?s a big deal. There are two things that make me love Sofia and Joe?s wedding: one, they weren’t stingy with the social media photos at all (Sofia Instagram?d everything) and two, they asked for charity donations in lieu of wedding gifts. That, to me, is classy, especially from rich Hollywood people.
It’s official: Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are married! The gorgeous couple tied the knot Sunday during a romantic wedding at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. The ceremony began at 7 p.m. in front of gathered guests, which included Vergara’s Modern Family costars, Reese Witherspoon and Channing Tatum.
Vergara, 43, who recently admitted she had a little bit of “bridezilla” in her and is very detail-oriented, pulled out all the stops for the nuptials. The festivities included a weekend full of fun, including a pool party, a sumptuous rehearsal dinner and a pre-wedding bash that included Manganiello serenading his bride-to-be with “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”
At the Sunday ceremony, Vergara wore a custom Zuhair Murad Couture design as she walked down the aisle. The ceremony was indoors, inside a small area decorated with white roses, orchids and hydrangeas. The actress went without a veil and carried a bouquet of orchids.
Instead of exchanging the typical “I dos,” the couple instead said “I will” in front of a minister and members of the wedding party read passages from the Bible in both Spanish and English. Vergara and Manganiello also recited their own vows. The emotional ceremony included a lot of laughter and happy tears from the guests.
Additionally, in lieu of gifts, the couple asked guests to send a donation to one of two charities close to their hearts: St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital.

The Pittsburgh Children?s Hospital is for Joe ? he grew up in Pennsylvania. As for the bride?s custom Zuhair Murad? the silhouette is basically the same as half of her red carpet gowns, but that?s what she?s comfortable in, so God bless. She looked very pretty! Congrats, Sofia and Joe!

The film made $185,000, or $1,470 per theater ($310,000 in two weeks). Compare that to other limited releases, like Carol, which made $62,037 per theater, or Legend, which made $20,721 per theater. Yeah. BTS is a bomb. To her credit, Angelina is still hustling though. She?s talking about how the Leg of Doom is always fighting with The Goatee of Despair, and how Brad peed on her during an improvised scene that didn?t make it into the movie. In a new interview with an Australian outlet, she?s now talking about how she loves going into early-onset menopause.
She loves menopause: ?I actually love being in menopause. I haven?t had a terrible reaction to it, so I?m very fortunate. I feel older, and I feel settled being older. I feel happy that I?ve grown up. I don?t want to be young again.?
She was wearing ?a rope of pea-sized diamonds sparkling at her throat?: ?They?re Tiffany. Just something I?m having fun with at the moment.?
She shy about writing: ?This film was a test for me in a way ? of all the things I do, I?m most shy about writing.?
Whether getting married changed anything: ?I don?t think so. If anything, it challenges you because you really start to think about the rest of your life. You feel very tied. It?s interesting for me having his last name. Everything you do becomes as ?wife of?? which is an interesting transition.? The biggest step for the couple, she goes on, ?was when he adopted the kids. That was something. Because you can always get divorced, but you can?t walk away from parenting. That was a big, not a hard, thing, but I really wanted to make sure that nothing would go wrong for the kids.?
Being thought of as an ?earth mother?: ?My kids would all find that funny! My mother?s whole life was motherhood, and she was very soft and sweet. Obviously, I?m very affectionate with my kids, but I don?t know if I take care of them or they take care of me. I feel like Mad and I have grown up together, and he kind of taught me how to raise him.?
Whether she always wanted to be a mother: ?I was never one of those people. I never played with dolls, I never babysat. I had no natural instinct or curiosity [about motherhood]. If anything, I wanted to become a parent because I felt a real connection to Mad?s country, and I felt very much for orphan children who didn?t have a home.?

Well, in that Monica Bellucci post several weeks ago, I did dare American actresses to talk about menopause in a similar way. Bellucci said she was looking forward to menopause and now here we have Angelina saying that she?s totally fine with it. She seems fine with it too, although I think how she feels about menopause in the first year will probably be different from how she feels about it in the fourth year. But hey, maybe I?m wrong. Maybe she?s totally fine.
As for the pea-sized diamonds from Tiffany?s? sigh. I want to know more about her jewelry. She wore some really great pieces during the By the Sea promotion.

She had an affection for chokers before this pregnancy, of course, but these days, it does seem like Kim has been wearing at least one unfortunate choker a week, at least. What bugs me is that Kim ? and women built like Kim ? shouldn?t really wear chokers. She?s short and curvy and she does not have a long, swan-like neck (yeah, let?s say that). Chokers mess with her proportions, they make her look shorter, heavier and? well, they?re just not flattering. Still, Kim is publicly telling Kanye that she wants him to buy her a choker? as a push present.
Every woman deserves a gift for cooking up a baby, right? Kim Kardashian West surely thinks so! The pregnant reality star, who?s due in December but could welcome her son any day now, took to her website to share the idea of a ?push present? and hint to husband Kanye West what exactly he should be looking for.
?I like the idea of a push present ? after nine months of pregnancy it?s a sweet and well-deserved thank you,? Kardashian, 35, wrote. ?We women go through an entire pregnancy carrying a baby ? of course it only makes sense that we get something amazing to show how amazing we are! LOL!?

Jennifer Lopez literally had a dozen costume changes as host of the AMAs. This is what she wore for the red carpet and the backstage press ? this is a Nicolas Jebran gown from 2012. J.Lo was pretty try-hard as host, but most people gave her points for at least trying to keep everything light and fun.
Here Derek Jeter?s one and only, Hannah Davis. She wore Naeem Khan and her styling is giving me Elizabeth Olsen vibes. Right?
Even though I feel like we were one stiff breeze away from seeing Julianne Hough?s babymaker, I really like this Naeem Khan gown. God help me. The colors are beautiful and it looks amazing on her. I would have just lowered the front slits a few inches, then it would have been perfect. I can?t believe that I genuinely think Julianne Hough was the best-dressed of the AMAs.
Ciara?s body is like BAM. Ciara wore the hell out of this Reem Acra gown and it looked great on her. On someone else, this might have looked mediocre or even trashy, but Ciara really worked it.
Ellie Goulding in Alexandre Vauthier. I find her boring and overrated as an artist and as a fashion girl, so I?m not really into this.

Here are some photos from Saturday night?s big LA premiere of The Danish Girl. The studio, Focus Features, has been rolling this film out gradually and they?re keeping a pretty tight grip on the hype, I think. Like, Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander were in the ?conversation? about all of the big awards, but Focus must have been worried that the hype would peak too soon. Eddie in particular has been relatively quiet, although word is that he?s being shaking hands and doing some quiet campaigning. Of course, it could be that everyone involved in this film just really, really believes in it. I watched the HBO First Look for the film and it seriously made me cry, just by seeing how much work Eddie in particular put into this role.
Anyway, fashion. It?s consistently funny to me that the biggest headlines out of the premieres are always about Amber Heard and Scarfy Depp. She?s dragged Depp to every film festival and premiere for this film and? I don?t know, she really just has a small, supporting part. Amber wore this Dolce & Gabbana suit which I honestly don?t hate on her. Probably because the style reminds me a lot of that Saint Laurent tuxedo Angelina Jolie wore to the BAFTAs in 2014. As for Scarfy Depp? I feel for him. I feel like Amber throws a temper tantrum if he doesn?t walk red carpets with her. Dear Amber: even without Scarfy, we would still cover you. Don?t worry, chica. PS? Scarfy?s LIFTS OF DOOM.
Here?s Alicia Vikander in yet another Louis Vuitton. She?s almost exclusive worn Louis Vuitton to every red carpet this year because she has a contract/brand-ambassadorship with the label. Here?s the thing: even actresses with contracts with certain houses are allowed to branch out occasionally with other designers. And at this point, seeing Alicia in LV is SO BORING. The dresses rarely do much for her and she wasting so many potentially interesting red-carpet-moments.
And finally, here?s Eddie Redmayne and his lovely wife Hannah Bagshawe. Eddie wore a fabulous checkered suit (HIS STYLE!!!!!) and Hannah wore Alexander McQueen, one of her favorite labels. I kind of think they?re the best-dressed couple, right? And Hannah?s dress is by far the best on the carpet.
