Kim Kardashian is still promoting her book of selfies, Selfish, and she keeps signing on to these relatively prestigious gigs as part of the promotional trail. Last night, she appeared at the Commonwealth Club of California, in a talk that was moderated by Judge LaDoris Cordell. People were mad. The Commonwealth Club of California is a venue that has previously hosted talks with people like Ronald Reagan, FDR and Martin Luther King. And now Kim. The club?s Facebook blew up with all the people complaining about Kim. But at the end of the day, Kim still did the talk. Some highlights from her discussion, via Page Six:
Her big reveal: She was wearing maternity Spanx under her black designer dress to conceal cellulite, not her pregnant belly.
Explaining her popularity: ?I really do love social media. I credit it to a lot of my career. My career is based on openness, openness and honesty.?
Her social media followers: ?Maybe it?s the bikini selfies. I think I definitely overshare, but I?m really engaged.?
Whether it?s realistic for women to be successful in a man?s world: ?There is this generation of young people ? girls ? who are beautiful but don?t have a strong work ethic. People sometimes think that with looks things will be easy, But I just encourage people to put in the work.?
Whether she?s okay with objectifying herself: ?Yes. I don?t think it?s a bad thing. I think there?s power in that and I think I have the control to put out what I want so even if I?m objectifying myself, I feel good about it.?
What it?s like to raise biracial children: Kardashian shared making the difficult decision not to engage with a fellow airline passenger who screamed profanity and racial comments at her while she was traveling with her daughter. West ?is very vocal about racial issues,? she said. ?Our communication, I think, will be really helpful for our children.?

Eh, it is what it is. I never feel weird about objectifying Kim Kardashian because that?s really her raison d’tre. To complain about being objectified would be, for Kim, complaining about her fame and accomplishments. I even like the shade Kim threw about the beautiful girls with no work ethic ? and I do think she?s right. There are a lot of pretty girls who think ?being pretty? is the beginning and the end of their accomplishments.

Interestingly enough, we just discussed Orlando Bloom?s new romance and here we are talking about Miranda Kerr perhaps going for a tech whiz kid. Emphasis on ?kid?! According to Radar (side-eye), Miranda has been spending time with Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. Spiegel is only 25 years old! Miranda is 32. Not a huge age difference, but there?s a vast difference in life experience. She?s a divorcee, a single mother and she?s been around the world with a more than decade-long modeling career. Evan Spiegel grew up in California, he?s been cloistered in a world of money for all of his life and he?s very much a douche-bro frat boy. Seriously, go and read those NSFW emails and tell me that doesn’t taint your idea of him. But for some reason, as I write it all out, this pairing makes more sense.
Though her romance with billionaire businessman James Packer was never officially confirmed, it seems Miranda Kerr has already moved on to a younger beau ? Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel! According to Australia?s Media Diary, the supermodel attended the 62nd edition of Cannes ? an event for advertising executives ? where the big news got out.
Meanwhile, ex Packer has moved on to singer Mariah Carey. The pair has been spotted getting hot-and-heavy all over Capri on a romantic vacation.
Much younger than Packer, Spiegel just recently celebrated his 25th birthday, but has earned his CEO rap with the Snapchat app now valued at a whopping $16 billion.
Speigel is no stranger to dating celebrities either. He has previously been linked to pop star Taylor Swift, who recently went public with her Calvin Harris relationship. It?s hard to keep up!

I?m not sure if Taylor Swift ever really dated Spiegel. At one point, they were in the same vicinity and I think they were introduced, but that doesn?t mean they dated. But Miranda? Yeah, I could see it. I also think it?s ?interesting? that Miranda is basically doing corporate gigs now ? she gets paid to show up at corporate events at Cannes to ?pretty up? the event. It?s a pretty common practice in LA, NYC and Silicon Valley, although they usually don?t hire models with Miranda?s kind of name recognition.
Speaking of Miranda?s career these days, there was a rumor going around this week that Miranda was in negotiations to return to Victoria?s Secret (after she left for greener pastures several years ago). It would have been a decent move for both VS and Kerr ? many of the big-name models have left VS in the past few years and the VS runway shows are quickly becoming a parade of ?who?s that?? On Miranda?s side, I think she believed she would be working non-stop after VS and that really hasn?t happened (see above, she?s now doing corporate gigs). But in any case, VS denied that they were negotiating with Miranda. Hm.
Oh, and after I wrote this all up, Us Weekly confirmed it – Spiegel and Kerr are dating. They were seen getting “cozy” in Venice, California a few days ago and an eyewitness says they looked “really into each other.”

Katy Perry covers the newest issue of Forbes to highlight her status as the highest earning musician on the Celebrity 100 list. Over the past year, Katy earned $135 million. This includes cosmetic and fashion endorsements plus 124 concerts in 27 countries, which yieled her about $2 million gross per show. (This is how she can afford to purchase a convent in cash.) About 60% of her earnings come from abroad.
For a pop star who sings in clichs, Katy is doing well. She’s laughing at everyone who calls her a dimwit. Katy revealed her Forbes cover and said people warned her against it:
“Before accepting the offer to be on the cover of Forbes, I was told that a lot of women have previously shied away from doing it. I wondered if it was because they thought socially it would look like they were flaunting or bragging or it wasn?t a humble decision. Ladies, there is a difference between being humble and working hard to see the fruits of your labor blossom, and your dreams realized. Hopefully this cover can be an inspiration to women out there that it?s okay to be proud of hard earned success and that there is no shame in being a boss. Also … don?t think that I didn?t celebrate this moment by going straight to Taco Bell and getting my crunch wrap supreme”

Is it true that many women have turned down doing Forbes covers? Sadly, I believe it. MTV calls this cover “a feminist statement,” which is interesting because Katy’s unusual definition of feminism doesn’t jibe. Still, congrats to Katy. Here’s Amber Heard at the UK premiere of Magic Mike XXL. Her dress is Emilio Pucci with ruffles to spare. The color is gorgeous, but the halter neck and all the fussy details make this dress look too fancy for a stripper movie. Amber wants the world to take her seriously, so she wore a serious dress. Johnny Depp didn’t make it to the premiere. He’s still pouting in Australia on the set of Pirate 5, where a capuchin monkey attacked his makeup artist.
Amber has a new interview with the Sunday Times. She talks about the reversed gender roles in this film and why she came out as bisexual:
“At that time I didn?t know of anyone else in my position who was a working female lead actress. I don?t want to have to deny my sexuality in order to be me. But I don?t want to have to be defined by it. I?m fundamentally opposed to trying to edit myself to be palatable or popular. I don?t give a f***. I fight, but I shouldn?t have to.”
Heard also admitted re-writing her lines for Magic Mike to suggest that her character was bisexual and enjoyed the film?s “reversed gender roles.”
“It?s a film about men seeking sexual attention,” she said. “It gives the power position to women. My character?s function has nothing to do with her sexuality.”

Amber came out in 2010. At the time, the internet acted like it was a huge scandal, but it shouldn’t have been a big deal. Media outlets still make a huge fuss out of it. Countless tabloid stories have referred to Amber as a “bisexual beauty” as if that’s the only way to describe her. The Independent even refers back to Jeremy Clarkson’s intro on Top Gear: “Yes, it?s true, nobody has ever heard of her, but she is bisexual and she likes guns and muscle cars.” He’s so rude.

Many facts are coming out about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s divorce, which was predicted in surprising detail by the tabloids. One thing that Radar Online and The National Enquirer got wrong is the fact that Ben and Jen did not file or announce their divorce prior to their 10 year anniversary. They announced a day after their anniversary, which was on June 29th. This seems to indicate that Garner had a hand in the announcement date, however outlets are bending over backwards to claim otherwise.
There’s been some confusion (on my part) as to what a ten year marriage means in California divorce law. A marriage of ten years or more is considered a “long duration” marriage. This means that spousal support can be awarded to the lower-earning spouse, at a judge’s discretion, until they no longer need it. (Shorter marriages typically mean that spousal support will only continue for half the duration of the marriage.) California is considered a “Community Property” state in that earnings during the marriage by both spouses are community property from the onset. In a long duration marriage, the lower earning spouse can also go after a higher percentage of their partner’s earnings. US Magazine has more from a legal expert. All of this seems to benefit Garner.
Here are some of the many stories that have come out following the news that Affleck and Garner are over. People Magazine alone has several follow-ups, and multiple outlets have “exclusive” insider statements including E!, US Magazine, Page Six and TMZ. Garner and Affleck are obviously working hard to control the press. You get the impression that they’re willing to admit to certain “acceptable” problems, but that they’re trying to keep a lock down on Ben’s infidelity. They’re also stressing that this divorce is amicable and that they will peacefully co-parent.
They were in therapy for two years
Several articles mention that Ben and Jen were in therapy for two years. TMZ adds that “Ben did not go out and did not womanize … Jen complained he just drank and gambled too much… [they're just] 2 people who want to live their lives differently.” We’ve heard variations of this claim before.
The “10 year rule” was not a consideration in their filing date?
These two do not have a prenup and their net worth is valued at a combined $105-115 million. Affleck’s net worth is around $75 million while Garner’s is at about $40 million. Both TMZ and E! are claiming that the divorce date is a complete coincidence and has nothing to do with their tenth anniversary. This is the party line, and it sounds wholly unlikely to me. TMZ: “As for the “10 year rule”… we’re told 2 things: A) their decision had nothing to do with it B) she’s loaded and doesn’t need support.” E!: “their split had nothing to do with their anniversary on Monday… the timing was simply a coincidence and in no way had to do with ‘money reasons‘”
They’ve been separated for 10 months
E! Online: “They have… been in a trial separation for 10 months, during which time Affleck has been staying at hotels.” People is more vague about their separation date. “They’ve been separated for a few months but will continue to work together as co-parents and as two people who still care about each other.”
They both want what’s best for their children
People’s source: “This should not be an ugly divorce. They plan on co-parenting and doing absolutely everything in the best interest of the kids.”
Ben will be living in another residence on their same property
Page Six: “Ben, who has been staying in hotels in recent months, will live on the property of their Brentwood marital home, but will not share the main house, we?re told.” Multiple other reports repeat this same claim. If this is the case why were moving vans spotted there? Why was Ben living in hotels for 10 months if he could have presumably used this other residence the whole time?
Their divorce will be amicable
Page Six: “This isn?t going to end up in a dramatic court case, they are trying to resolve it as quickly and easily as possible. Ben and Jennifer have been separated for more than six months. They have been seeing counselors for years. The situation is that people change and they grow apart.”

We?re still talking about Sean Penn and Minka Kelly because? it?s still bizarre to think about. And I?m still hypnotized by the mental image of the Ham-Face going beet red on top of her. As we discussed yesterday, it seems that Sean joined Minka and a few of her friends in Napa last week to celebrate her birthday. Sean paid for the group and he seemingly traveled a distance just to attend her party. Which led me to believe that they were doing it. Not so, says Us Weekly. Well, actually Us Weekly says that Minka?s birthday party was their first date. Um, what?
Movin’ on. Less than two weeks after Us Weekly exclusively broke the news of Sean Penn and Charlize Theron’s split, the Gangster Squad actor, 54, has found another potential leading lady: Minka Kelly.
A source confirms to Us that Penn treated Kelly and a couple of friends to a “very pricey meal” at Thomas Keller’s elite eatery The French Laundry in Napa, Calif., for the Almost Human actress’ 35th birthday.
The insider says that Penn — whose famous exes include Theron, Scarlett Johansson, and ex-wives Madonna and Robin Wright — flew up to Napa with a pal on the night of June 23, and met Kelly and her girlfriend for dinner. The two apparently met at a benefit the actor threw for his Haiti relief organization J/P HRO.
“That was their first date, but it was a group setting,” the insider tells Us of the birthday feast at French Laundry. “It was more of a ‘let’s see how this goes.’”
It went well, according to the source. “Minka and Sean got along great and had a great time, but it’s unclear where it’s going,” the insider says.

Interestingly enough, People Magazine also has an ?insider? with interesting insider information: ?Sean and Minka have been friends for a long time. It was just a group of friends out to dinner and purely platonic.” O RLY? Or is that just the official line? Is this just a rebound fling? Is Sean trying to make Charlize jealous? Good luck with that! My opinion is the same as yesterday: the Ham-Face has been intimate with Minka. They wouldn?t be scrambling and lying like this if they weren?t hitting it.

The tabloids, particularly The National Enquirer and Radar Online, among others, were correct about the problems in Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s marriage. Affleck and Garner have announced that they are divorcing after 10 years of marriage. Yesterday was their tenth anniversary and it’s unclear if they have officially filed for divorce, but they have given an exclusive statement to People about their split. Their announcement didn’t use the term “mutual,” but said that they will “go forward with love and friendship” and a “commitment to co-parenting.”
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have split, PEOPLE confirms.
The couple were married for 10 years, having marked their anniversary on Monday.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple tells PEOPLE in a joint statement. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
Garner, 42, and Affleck, 43, intend to seek mediation, says a source close to the couple.
The two are parents to three kids: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.

This was expected, and honestly I kept checking People Magazine on Friday because I thought People would get the exclusive. Instead they had a brief story about Garner visiting a children’s hospital. I do think that they may have wanted to announce Friday but that they took the weekend and talked it out more before making the announcement. It’s possible that Garner put her foot down and made Ben wait to file until their 10 year anniversary had passed and she had more community properly rights. We’ve heard that Ben wanted to make the announcement prior to their anniversary.
Both Garner and Affleck have mentioned that marriage is work and Affleck seemed particularly unhappy lately. This is sad for their kids, and I hope that they’re able to divorce somewhat amicably and reduce their kids’ exposure to the press. I think we’ll be hearing more in the days and weeks to come about what really happened.
