In The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift devoted two songs to her eight-years-long beef with Kim Kardashian. It?s particularly telling, to me at least, that Taylor is still so mad at Kim specifically. I don?t doubt that Taylor still has a lot of smoke for Kanye West, but she?s not devoting whole-ass songs about how much she despises Ye. Is he too ?easy? a target for Taylor? Kanye destroyed his own life and brand already he?s a Nazi pariah, and he?s now unwelcome in the elite spaces he craves. If Taylor went after Ye, it would likely be seen as punching down. Plus, he would love the attention. So? she goes after Kim. Kim hasn?t said one word about Taylor on the record since 2019, when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live and said that everyone involved had ?moved on.? Taylor was mad about that too, and she?s spent the past five years referencing Kim in interviews and music. In any case, Kim still isn?t saying anything on the record, but a ?source? has something to say about it:
The release of Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department has reignited interest in the feud between the singer and Kim Kardashian. On ?thanK you aIMee, Swift sings about facing bullying, and the lyrics, coupled with the capitalization of the three letters in the title (KIM), led fans to think that the song is a dig at the SKIMS founder.
A source tells PEOPLE of Kardashian?s response to the track: ?She?s over it and thinks Taylor should move on.?
Kardashian ?doesn?t get why [Swift] keeps harping on it,? the source says. ?It?s been literally years.?
In the chorus of ?thanK you aIMee,? Swift sings, ?All that time you were throwin? punches, I was buildin? somethin? / And I can?t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed ?F you, Aimee? to the night sky, as the blood was gushin/ But I can?t forget the way you made me heal.
Later, she changes the chorus to sing: All that time you were throwin punches, it was all for nothin / An our town, it look so small from way up here / Screamed Thank you, Aimee to the night sky and the stars are stunnin / Cause I cant forget the way you made me heal.
The song also references Swift removing any real defining clues about who the song is about, along with her admitting, I changed your name, which fans believed to be a reference to the song exploring her rift with Kardashian.

Don?t get me wrong, I am also a champion grudge-holder. I?m still holding on to grudges from decades ago. I have a memory like a steel trap for people who have wronged me. But my seething hatred for my enemies is contained, because I would never, ever give my enemies (especially Laura Fking Dern) the satisfaction of knowing that I carry these grudges with me. That?s what I don?t get about Taylor, honestly. Maybe it?s a Sagittarius thing for her versus a Virgo thing for me. Taylor is always so eager to paint herself as the heroine-victim, she has to let everyone know that she?s still thinking about that one person who wronged her eight years ago. Why give Kim the satisfaction of knowing that? That Taylor is still haunted by it, still writing songs about it, still torn up about it? In a very limited sense about this one siloed situation, I genuinely think Kim has handled this whole thing correctly for years, by refusing to apologize and largely ignoring Taylor. And Taylor hasn?t handled it correctly.

The Met Gala is on May 6th this year. The theme is ?Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,? and the dress code is ?The Garden of Time.? So expect groundbreaking florals and people wearing vines and such. You would think that Taylor Swift would be all over this theme, even though it?s been years since she?s gone with a pastels-and-florals style. But apparently Taylor isn?t going to this year?s Met Gala, and neither is her boyfriend. Taylor has a good excuse her Eras Tour picks up just a few days after the gala, and she likely needs to rest up and prepare. But what about Travis? That man loves fashion!
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will not be among the celebs walking the red-carpeted stairs for the 2024 Costume Institute Ball in NYC, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.
?Taylor and Travis are not going to the Met Gala. They passed,? the source says. ?They might go as it gets closer, but for now, they are not going.?
Fans were hoping to see Swift, 34, make an appearance with Kelce, 34, at the ?Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion? themed evening, where confirmed celeb attendees include Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth. The super-couple?s no-show for the Manhattan event is also a matter of logistics: The bash takes place on Monday May 6, but Swift has an Eras Tour concert scheduled in Paris, France just a few days later on May 9.
Swift has not attended the Met Gala since 2016, when she rocked a silver Louis Vuitton snakeskin frock for the ?Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology? theme. She elevated her look with strappy heels as she served as a co-chair for the event, where she seemingly met ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

I think Us Weekly has it wrong about meeting Joe I thought she met Joe months later, in the fall of 2016? Taylor spent time with Tom Hiddleston at the 2016 Met Gala, which led to the Worldwide Tiddlebanging Tour. Just FYI. Anyway, TMZ also got the tip that Travis and Taylor were skipping the gala. TMZ?s sources also say that Anna Wintour issued separate invitations to Trav and Tay and ?both have RSVPd ?no? to the celeb-packed evening.? You know what I wonder? I wonder if Taylor hasn?t prioritized the gala this year (or any year past 2016) because Wintour has allowed the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan to attend in recent years. It could be that Wintour told her that Kim Kardashian will definitely be there and that?s why Taylor is opting out. Plus, I?m sure Karlie Kloss will be there too. The gala has become an event with too many snake enemies.

Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department has not landed well. This is maybe the first time in Swift?s history where it feels like a new album is being scoffed at, that the reaction almost across the board is a massive eye roll? Even from her fans, there?s a sense of ?wait, maybe Taylor didn?t need to share this much.? What I keep coming back to is how unnecessary this was too Midnights was well-received, even if some critics quietly noted that Taylor should get out of her Jack Antonoff-produced comfort zone. Still, it won the Album of the Year Grammy (another eyeroll) and there were several good songs on it, even I?ll admit that. It feels like she didn?t take the time in between Midnights and TTPD to really figure out what she wanted to say about Joe Alwyn and Matt Healy. It was supposed to come out as raw, hyper-emotional poetry but instead it?s come across as Taylor trauma-dumping on her fans about a really sh-tty guy (and her fans already knew the guy was a total sh-thead).
The American edition of Rolling Stone gave TTPD a rave review, and while they might mean it, as I read RS?s piece, I was struck by how dumbed-down the review was, as if the critic was trying to give 13-year-olds a history lesson on ?who is Patti Smith?? RS Germany had an even more disconcerting take on TTPD critic Ralf Niemczyk claimed that TTPD shows that Taylor is ?the better Adele.? Y?all. Leave Adele out of it she?s literally in a totally different league. Meanwhile, Paste Magazine?s review was so scathing, it?s served as some kind of seminal moment in the critical examination of Taylor Swift?s cultural impact. Whoever wrote this didn?t get a byline, apparently because that person doesn?t want to get doxxed by Swifties, because that?s where we are in this world. You can read the full piece here. Taylor?s TTPD announcement at the Grammys: Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this! When Taylor Swift took the Grammy?s stage last month to claim her award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, she saw that spotlight as an opportunity to announce her 11th studio album: The Tortured Poets Department. The follow-up cut to audience members?Swift?s music industry peers, mind you?told us all that we would ever need to know, and the collective disinterest across the crowd echoed through our TVs.
On the use of ?tortured?: In terms of popularity?certainly not always in terms of quality?no musician has been bigger this century than Swift, which makes it impossible to really buy into the ?torture? of it all. This is not to say that Swift being the most famous person in the world makes her immune to having multi-dimensional feelings of heartbreak, mental illness or what-have-you. But, she has made the choice?as a 34-year-old adult?to take those complex, universal familiars and monetize them into a wardrobe she can wear for whatever portion of her Eras Tour setlist she opts to dedicate to the material. Torture is fashion to Taylor Swift, and she wears her milieu dully.
This is brutal: This album will surely get comparisons to Rupi Kaur?s poetry, either for its simplicity, empty language, commodification or all of the above. And, sure, there are parallels there, especially in how The Tortured Poets Department, too, is going to set the art of poetry back another decade?as Swift?s naive call-to-arms of her own milky-white sorrow rings in like some quintessential ?I am going to take pictures of a typewriter on my desk and have a Pinterest mood-board of Courier New font? iPhone fodder. 2013 called and it wants it capricious, suburban girl-who-is-taking-a-gap-year wig back! Soaking our book reports in coffee or having our moms burn the edges with a kitchen lighter cannot come back into fashion; the cyclical notions of culture cannot make the space for such retreads.
Open the schools: The Tortured Poets Department does begin with a shred of hope that, just maybe, Swift knows what she?s talking about?as she sneaks in a cheeky ?all of this to say,? textbook transitional phrasing for poets, on opening track ?Fortnight.? But ?Fortnight? unmasks itself quickly as a heady vat of pop nothingness, though it isn?t all Swift?s fault. ?I was a functioning alcoholic, ?til nobody noticed my new aesthetic,? she muses, attempting to bridge the gap between a behind-the-scenes life and on-stage performance?only for it to occur while propped up against the most dog-water, uninspired synth arrangement you could possibly imagine. Between producer Jack Antonoff?s atrocious backing instrumental and the Y2K-era, teen dramedy echo chamber of a vocal harmony provided by out-of-place guest performer Post Malone, ?Fortnight? chokes on the vomit of its own opaqueness. ?I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary,? Swift muses, and it sounds like satire. This is your songwriter of the century? Open the schools.
When Swift is at her best: Swift is at her best either when she is clawing upwards (Reputation) or faced with nowhere to go but into the studio and noodle with the bare-bones of her own sensibilities (folklore). You get something like The Tortured Poets Department when the artist making it no longer feels challenged, where she strikes out looking.
TTPD is mid: The mid-ness of The Tortured Poets Department will not be a net-loss for Swift. She will sell out arenas and get her streams until she elects to quit this business (a phrase decidedly not in her vocabulary, surely). She will sell more merch bundles than vinyl plants have the capacity to make, and rows of variant LP copies will haunt the record aisles of Target stores just as long as Midnights has?if not longer. Perhaps, in five or six years? time, we will speak of this record just as we now do of Reputation. But right now, it is obvious that Swift no longer feels challenged to be good. The Tortured Poets Department is the mark of an artist now interested in seeing how much their empire can atone for the sins of mediocrity. Can Swift win another Album of the Year Grammy simply because she released a record during the eligibility period? The Tortured Poets Department reeks of ?because I can,? not ?because I should.?
Moral nothingness: On The Tortured Poets Department, there is a striking level of moral nothingness. The stakes are practically non-existent, and the album sounds like it was made by someone who believes that they had no other choice but to finish it, as if Swift fundamentally believes that her creative measures are firmly embedded in the massive monopoly her name and brand currently hold on popular music.

This is starting to remind me of another piece of Swift?s oeuvre, one which she would probably like to forget: Cats. Remember how Taylor was a cat in Cats, and remember how much fun critics had reviewing that bomb? Sometimes, when an artist makes a terrible piece of art, it brings out the best in reviewers and critics as they try to explain why the art is so God-awful. The thing is, even Swift-skeptics will probably find a few songs in TTPD that they like, but the overall feeling is one of apathy, partly driven by oversaturation. Taylor is going to do what she wants and right now, she wants to do too much. That?s her right. Just as it?s our right to say ?meh.?

From what I?ve seen and heard from Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department, I?m surprised by just how much of it seems to be about Matt Healy. Fans can argue that there?s a decent shot that some of TTPD is about Joe Alwyn and Travis Kelce (?You know how to ball, I know Aristotle/Brand new, full throttle/Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto?) and sure, I believe that Taylor is pulling from all three relationships. But still, Healy is all over this album. It sort of confirms something I long suspected, which is that Taylor and Joe ended months before we knew anything about it, and Taylor and Matt started months before we knew too. Remember how Taylor joined The 1975 on stage in January 2023? I?m pretty sure they were already banging by then. So, this was a secret ?affair? turned official relationship turned into catastrophe. Add to that, Healy was joining Taylor in the studio during their relationship and likely influencing her on a musical level. All of which to say, Healy at least knew that some of this was coming. Reportedly, he?s relieved that Taylor got it out of her system:

LOL, it sort of feels like Healy wrecked her life and left. He probably takes it as a compliment that she?s written all of these songs about him. That?s the way Harry Styles took it too, and he was another guy who left her after a few months Harry has always just breezed past questions about Taylor?s songs about him, but he compliments her as a songwriter. As for Healy, he?s just glad he won?t be getting the full Taylor?s Ex Treatment. Please, the Swifties were so happy when Healy and Swift called it quits, now they?re discombobulated because Taylor clearly loved that racist POS.
Meanwhile, Healy?s aunt gave an interview to the Daily Mail and she said that Healy is currently dating Gabbriette Bechtel and he is ?very happy? and focusing on his girlfriend.

I really don?t mess with Woody Allen?s films at this point, but I did see Midnight In Paris one time, and I sort of enjoyed the premise of modern people being so nostalgic for a different era, they sort of willed themselves into their preferred era at midnight in Paris. Owen Wilson?s character longed to see the Lost Generation?s exploits in 1920s Paris Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Picasso, etc. I get that kind of nostalgia. What I don?t get is Taylor Swift seemingly longing for antebellum America??? And not even a particularly noteworthy or fascinating time in antebellum America either like, you could make a historical argument for wanting to see the Lincoln-Douglas debates or wanting to meet Harriet Tubman. But 1830s America? You want to go back in time to see Andrew Jackson?s presidency??? So that?s where we are. Taylor?s lyrics in her song ?I Hate It Here? have caused some controversy.
Taylor Swift released 31 new songs on Friday, but she?s facing some criticism for one line in particular. In ?I Hate It Here,? track 23 on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, Swift says she wants to live in the 1830s. The full lyric reads: ?My friends used to play a game where / We would pick a decade / We wished we could live in instead of this / I?d say the 1830s but without all the racists / And getting married off for the highest bid.?
The Tortured Poets Department double album runs more than two hours long and contains 10,663 words, according to a noble soul at The Ringer who spent 45 minutes counting them up, but this one line is standing out among social media critics.
Observers noted that it?s hard to separate the decade from ?all the racists? or other atrocities of the time. Other listeners were quick to point out that the 1830s were best known, historically, for the Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears, in which around 60,000 Native Americans were forcibly displaced from their homes, with many dying in the process. In Europe, it was also the time of a cholera pandemic that claimed tens of thousands more lives.
The 1830s were also three decades before the Civil War, and slavery was still legal in the United States. Some critics say that the lyric minimizes the struggles of the time, even with the ?without all the racists? caveat.
One X user wrote, ?I mention Taylor Swift once for a joke and now I?m getting news about her, and I gotta say: pretty astonishing to stipulate that she wants to live in the 1830s, ?except without the racists,? and not mention slavery, so slavery still exists but everyone?s chill about it.?
Others used the controversy as an opportunity to make fun of Swift, posting memes or making quips about her private jet. ?My interpretation of Taylor Swift wanting to live in the 1830s has to do with the lack of environmental regulations and how economical it?d be to run a private jet,? said another user.
Added a third, ?Taylor Swift name one thing that happened in the 1830s that wasn?t racism. Quickly.?

I get that she?s trying to analyze her own nostalgia and describe what it?s like living in her own romanticized interior spaces. But can she get some producers or friends she trusts to tell her ?girl, you better change these fking lyrics.? Billie Eilish has a lot of credibility as an artist who is actively trying to find solutions to environmental issues. She?s not calling herself an environmentalist and just leaving it to other people to do the heavy lifting Billie has made big changes to how an artist can tour and what can be done industry-wide to reduce waste. She?s also done smaller-scale things, like using her celebrity to get designers to focus more on not using fur or leather, and creating more ?vegan fashion? for all of her red carpets. Billboard did an interview with Billie and her mom, and you can read the long list of initiatives pioneered by Billie as a touring artist. Interestingly, Billie took some well-deserved swipes at other artists who do ?wasteful? album-drops:
Billie on being very particular about her merch: ?It?s about how it feels and how it looks and how it?s made. And so the problem is to make sure that my clothing is being made well and ethically and with good materials and it?s very sustainable and that it feels good and is durable. It?s going to be more expensive and that?s the thing: People can be upset by that. But I?m trying to pick one of two evils.
She?s reduced the number of merch drops too: ?Sometimes people have the idea of when things are more ethical, they?re more expensive, and so it?s harder to be plant-based or environmentally conscious if you don?t have as much money. That?s the whole system we live in, of like, if you have less money then you have less resources [for] healthier food? And so what we?re trying to do is make it more universally accessible.
She?s working to make vinyl more sustainable. Happier Than Ever came in eight vinyl variants, using 100% recycled black vinyl ? plus recycled scraps for colored variants ? and shrink-wrap made from sugar cane. ?We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it?s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging ? which ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money and gets them more? I can?t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable ? and then it?s some of the biggest artists in the world making f?king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more. It?s so wasteful, and it?s irritating to me that we?re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money ? and it?s all your favorite artists doing that sh-t.

Page Six has already described this as Billie taking a very specific swipe at Taylor Swift, and I?ll admit, Taylor is who I thought of first. Other artists do multiple vinyl packages as well, but Taylor has become infamous for squeezing every dollar she can from her fans through multiple drops of the same fking album. I always came at that issue as ?a sucker born every minute, Taylor really doesn?t respect her fans,? but Billie is coming at the issue as: that?s so wasteful, why are you creating forty unique vinyl packages for your fans to buy when you could just do one or two packages?
Update: After this Billboard piece was published, Billie later said that she wasnt calling out one specific person and especially not Taylor. Its true that she didnt name names and she was speaking in the broader sense that many artists do it. Artists like Taylor.

Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department leaked earlier this week, but as it turns out, people were only hearing about half of the album. Taylor gave her fans a heart attack with a ?2 am surprise? TTPD is a ?secret double album? full of two years? worth of ?tortured poetry.? From what little I?ve seen, the bulk of the album seems to be about Joe Alwyn and Matt Healy, maybe more songs about Healy than her fans were expecting. Here?s Taylor?s message to her fans:
The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author?s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.
And then all that?s left behind is the tortured poetry.

Swifties are having a really hard time defending this. Healy is not a golden retriever! Charlie Puth has talked sh-t about Selena Gomez! She also references Healy apparently threatening to self-harm: Sometimes I wonder if youre gonna screw this up with me/ But you told Lucy youd kill yourself if I ever leave.? The ?Lucy? in question is likely boygenius Lucy Dacus.
And here?s the first single from the album, a collab with Post Malone (who also collab?d with Beyonce on Cowboy Carter?s ?Levii?s Jeans?). This is okay?
Like? I?m never the target audience for Taylor?s music, but I agree with some of the Swifties that a lot of this sounds like rejects from Midnights? I?m sure there are some gems on TTPD and there will be some fan-faves. But I wonder if Taylor is sort of in a musical rut with Jack Antonoff producing everything?

That?s right. Kim hasn?t mentioned Taylor?s name in years and years. Kim divorced Kanye West and she?s raising her kids and existing as the billionaire co-founder of Skims. Meanwhile, Taylor is writing and singing overwrought songs about how? Kim tortured her for years (Kim did not) and Kim bullied her at school (??) and how Kim?s kids sing Taylor?s songs (they do, and I bet Kim laughs). Behold, Taylor?s ?thanK you aIMee.? Yes, that?s the way she capitalized ?KIM? in the song title. The queen of obvious-but-pretend-it?s-subtext.
I figured all of this was not over when Taylor once again tried to rewrite ?the canceling of 2016? in her Time Magazine Person of the Year profile. As I said in my coverage at the time, I don?t want Tree Paine on my ass, but if Taylor is going to keep doing this, so can I. Taylor said, in that Time interview, that she holds Kim responsible for her ?career death? with a ?fully manufactured frame job.? All because Kim exposed Taylor for misrepresenting one specific thing. That?s it. A fact which I wouldn?t have to keep bringing up except Taylor has spent the past eight years trying to rewrite, reengineer and reimagine it, shifting the goalposts and expecting her fans to do the heavy lifting.
As for the song itself? I find it overwrought, and knowing the actual history, it?s actually really funny that Taylor is still torn up about it. I hope Kim takes it as a compliment, that she?s still on Taylor?s mind all these years later. I changed your name and any real defining clues. And one day, your kid comes home singin a song that only us two is gonna know is about you. Okay but also? maybe leave Kim?s children out of it?

They saw Bleachers perform, because Taylor supports Jack Antonoff. They saw Ice Spice. They saw DJ Dom Dollas set. Travis lifted her in the air like she weighs nothing even more evidence that we need to date buff guys who can carry us and lift us in every way. Taylor also wore a New Heights baseball cap that?s the name of the Kelce Bros? podcast. They also went to Neon Carnival, ?the invite-only Coachella after-party.? I have to say, judging solely from the Coachella pics I?ve seen, the vibe at the festival has gotten more and more ?rich person cosplaying a hippie? with each passing year. Maybe Coachella was always that way, but the whole thing just looks like they dropped an exclusive members-only club in the middle of the Coachella valley.

Taylor Swift completed the Asian swing of her Eras Tour a few weeks ago, with Travis Kelce at her side for her final dates in Singapore. Taylor now has about two months off before the European swing of her tour commences. Reportedly, Taylor and Travis flew from Singapore to LA, where they rested and took it easy for about a week. Then they hopped on a plane for a week in the Bahamas, but they were back in the US by this weekend. They were seen at Nobu in Malibu on Sunday.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are spending some more quality time together following their recent vacation in the Bahamas. The couple appeared in happy spirits as they were spotted on a lunch date on Sunday at Nobu in Malibu.
Swift and Kelce, both 34, were pictured leaving the eatery hand-in-hand while sporting casual looks for their date. In footage posted on social media, the pair were also seen chatting during their date as they sat at a table to enjoy some al fresco dining.
Their outing comes after sources confirmed to PEOPLE that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the singer were spotted in the Bahamas for a getaway.
?They vacationed in the Bahamas for several days, a source tells PEOPLE of the trip. It was a much-needed break for both of them. They very much enjoyed it. They are so happy together.?
The day before his Malibu date with Swift, Kelce was spotted visiting his hometown of Cleveland. Along with stopping by one of his favorite restaurants for a slice of pizza, the Super Bowl champ also made time to pose for photos with some fans of his girlfriend.

One of the things which interests me about Taylor is how she divides her time between multiple homes. She still has a place in Nashville, she has a home in LA, and she has a huge loft in Tribeca. For a time (the Joe Alwyn years), I?m pretty sure she had a place in London too? But for much of the past year-and-a-half, she?s been mostly based out of New York. When she started seeing Travis, she would fly to visit him in Kansas City, and go back and forth from KC to NYC. It?s just interesting to me that they?re spending all of this time in LA right now. I imagine they do have more privacy if Travis was coming and going from her New York apartment, the paparazzi would be gathered there 24-7. Anyway, I hope they enjoyed their break in the Bahamas! Sounds nice and barely anyone heard about it (other than Deuxmoi).
