Last year, Sophia Bush married Grant Hughes in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hughes is from Tulsa, and they did a big wedding showcasing Tulsa?s history. They gave/sold the photos to Vogue, and Vogue did a huge wedding spread. While I?ve never been particularly invested in Sophia as a person or celebrity, I don?t have a problem with her either she?s fine and I wished her well. The thing is, I?m starting to suspect that Sophia is just chronically unlucky in love. Just thirteen months after their big Tulsa wedding, Sophia and Grant are done.
Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes have called it quits. The One Tree Hill actress, 41, filed for divorce from her husband on Friday after 13 months of marriage, PEOPLE can exclusively confirm.
?Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service,? a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. ?They continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends.?
The news comes seven weeks after Bush celebrated their wedding anniversary in a post on Instagram.
?Today marks 365 days of calling you ?husband,?? she captioned a black and white throwback photo of the two on their wedding day. ?Best decision of my life. It still feels just like this. Ecstatic. Running toward the future, grinning and laughing, together. I love you, my favorite. Happy Anniversary.?
It also comes nearly two weeks after Bush had to leave her 2:22 A Ghost Story West End production early after catching a virus that was going through the company.

The thing about that anniversary post is that? she deleted it as soon as she filed for divorce. I checked through her Instagram it looks like she?s deleted some of her posts with Grant, although she left a few of the wedding posts up the ones where you can?t see much of Grant (lol). So? like, what happened here? They spent a decade as friends, did that big wedding and one year later, they realized they weren?t right for each other? Or something else? My Spidey sense is tingling. PS? Someone said all of these breakups are happening because of Venus Retrograde??? OMG. That?s such a good theory. I also think this is just the summer of splits it just happens that way some years, where it feels like everyones breaking up.

Sophia Bush starred on the show One Tree Hill from 2003-2012. She was 21 when she started, but she played 16-year-old Brooke Davis. We know now that unfortunately, the women who worked on the show were terrorized by the showrunner, Mark Schwahn, who routinely harassed and assaulted them. Sophia was one of the women who put her name to a letter publicly exposing and admonishing his sick behavior. While on Ashley Graham?s podcast, Pretty Big Deal, Sophia once again discussed exactly how deep this cretin?s perversity went. Sophia said she had to fight to get her teenage character covered up because the show kept writing her into her underwear.
Sophia Bush is opening up about the on-set battles she got into with her boss on One Tree Hill.
During an appearance on Ashley Graham?s Pretty Big Deal podcast, the 37-year-old actress ? who played Brooke Davis for nine seasons on The WB/CW show ? revealed that she ?fought a lot? with her boss and the writers on set, especially after she was asked to play scenes as her teenage character in her underwear.
The request, Bush said, wasn?t one she accepted without a fight.
?I was sort of unaware of the power dynamics at play and I would just say things. I?d be like, ?I?m not doing this. Stop writing [these] scenes,? ? Bush recalled.
?You look back at it, at the time I didn?t realize how inappropriate it was, but again, this was a long time ago,? Bush added. ?I remember my boss kept writing scenes for me to be in my underwear. And I was like, ?I?m not doing this. This is inappropriate. Like, I don?t think this is what we should be teaching 16-year-old girls to be doing, to be seeking validation this way.? ?
The response Bush claims she got from her boss ? who she never specifically named on the podcast ? was shocking, she said.
?He literally said to me, he goes, ?Well, you?re the one with the big f?king rack everybody wants to see,? ? said Bush. ?And I was like, [gasp], ?What? Well, I?m not doing it!? ?
Bush said she showed up to film the next episode in a turtleneck ?to be spiteful.?
?I was like, ?This is just how I?m gonna dress on the show from now on if you don?t stop writing these scenes,? ? she remembered. ?I was really ballsy, and I didn?t even know it. I just wasn?t wanting to perpetuate this sort of behavior that I didn?t think was appropriate.?

When I first saw the headlines for this story, I thought Sophia was 16 at the time she filmed it (I didn?t watch the show). But now that I see she was 21 and thinking of 16-year-olds, it impresses me in more ways than one. She?s absolutely right about sending the right messages to teenagers. I appreciate that her being, ?unaware of the power dynamics at play,? allowed her to stand up for her character. And I truly applaud her outright defiance by showing up in a turtleneck to further her point.
This story illuminates another arm to the toxic culture in Hollywood. Obviously, there are countless women directly affected by serial assaulters. But I kind of overlooked how these same scumbags forward their agenda by reaching through the screen to other women and girls, telling them this is how we think you should measure your self-worth. Fortunately, Sophia saw it. I hope Sophia and all of his victims have found the measures they need to deal with the abuse to which they were subjected. I also hope this man never works again. According to his IMDb, he hasn?t since being suspended from The Royals. That was only a year and a half ago but who knows, maybe the tides are turning, and awful people don?t get put back in power again. Wouldn?t that be nice?

Sophia Bush quit working on Chicago PD in 2017. She made it clear in interviews that it was her idea, that she gave producers ample notice and told them clearly what was wrong on set, but that nothing changed so she left. She said that it was a very unprofessional work environment and its thought that some of that had to do with her costar, Jason Beghe. Beghe was reprimanded for outbursts on set and issued a statement apologizing and revealing that he was in anger management treatment. So it looks like executives decided to keep the abuser on set and let one of his victims leave when she brought up the issues that they likely already knew. In a new interview on Dax Shepards podcast [via US Magazine], Sophia got into some more details of her exit and theyre damning:
[Sophia Bush], 36, joined Dax Shepard?s ?Armchair Expert? podcast, published on Monday, December 10, and revealed that after visiting Onsite, a friend?s wellness retreat, she ?unpacked? what was going on with herself.
?I realized that as I was thinking I was being the tough guy, doing the thing, showing up to work, I programmed myself to tolerate the intolerable,? the activist stated. After that, she began saying no ? and ultimately quit her job on Chicago P.D. ?I quit because, what I?ve learned is I?ve been so programmed to be a good girl and to be a work horse and be a tug boat that I have always prioritized tugging the ship for the crew, for the show, for the group, ahead of my own health ? My body was, like, falling apart, because I was really, really unhappy.?
Bush went on to explain that the conditions of working in Chicago?s extreme weather was difficult and people were getting sick all of the time. However, the writers in Los Angeles would tell them that the ?snow looks so cool on camera
?I internalized and sort of like, inhabited that role of ?pull the tug boat? to the point where just because I?m unhappy or I?m being mistreated or I?m being abused at work, I?m not gonna f?k up this job for all these people and what about the camera guy whose two daughters I love and this is how he pays their rent? It becomes such a big thing. When your bosses tell you that if you raise a ruckus, you?ll cost everyone their job, you believe them.?
After complaining multiple times, she sat down with her two bosses following the table read of the season 4 premiere. Although she had signed a seven-season contract when landing the gig in 2014, she was ready to go and was giving them an entire season to either change things or find a replacement.
When her bosses told her there was ?no way? she?d be able to get out of her contract, she gave them a choice. ?I said, ?OK, you can put me in the position of going quietly of my own accord or you can put me in the position of suing the network to get me out of my deal and I?ll write an op-ed for The New York Times and tell them why??
?[It] was a consistent onslaught barrage of abusive behavior,? Bush stated, without naming names. ?You start to lose your way when someone assaults you in a room full of people and everyone literally looks away, looks at the floor, looks at the ceiling, and you?re the one woman in the room and every man who?s twice your size doesn?t do something.?

I like how matter-of-fact Sophia is and yet shes not naming names, which would absolutely be her prerogative, shes just clearly stating what happened. Its outrageous that when she said shed like a better work environment she was told that she would cost people their jobs if anything changed. Thats a classic abuser tactic. The fact that she ended up leaving and that nothing was done shows how such a toxic environment happened in the first place. We wonder why there arent better depictions of women on television and in film but its not only about barriers to entry, its about unsafe work environments and a culture that does not value workers, protects abusers and blames the victim.

It may be after Labor Day, but Im giving Sophia Bush a pass, because she looked radiant in a crisp white pantsuit at the Variety and Women In Films 2018 Pre-Emmy Celebration in LA on Saturday. I love a nice suit, and I like this on her. I kind of wish the jacket was tailored a little closer to her torso, but it doesnt bother me enough to give this look a boot.
Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi looked lovely in a soft green hued mini dress with a train. She paired her dress with a metallic gold clutch and shoes. This color works on Padma, and I do like the cut of the dress. If anyone can make a train work, its Padma. She also looked delighted to pose for a photo with Sterling K. Brown, because who wouldnt?

A few months ago, showrunner Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill, The Royals) was outed as a serial harasser and assailant who created an abusive work environment. The news came out after writer Audrey Wauchope posted to social media about it without naming Schwahn. 18 actors, writers and crew from One Tree Hill confirmed Wauchopes report on the record, named Schwahn and described treatment that Schwahn subjected them to, including unwanted touching, psychological and verbal abuse. Actress Hilarie Burton even said that Schwahns sexual harassment caused her to stop pursuing acting opportunities at 21. Schwahn was subsequently fired as showrunner on The Royals, which is rare as E! isnt known for making abusers face consequences.
Actress Sophia Bushwas one of 18 people who signed the letter. In an interview with Andy Cohen for his radio show, Bush described Schwahn;s harassment, and said it was common on set. (This is the same interview where she admitted she didnt really want to marry her costar Chad Michael Murray, which taken in this context explains a lot.) She said she hit Schwahn when he grabbed her butt in front of witnesses. Sophia learned later that one of her co-workers defended her for that and told Schwahn not to touch women. Schwahn threatened the man to be quiet about it or get fired.
Sophia Bush spoke about the allegations made against One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn, noting that the show was great ? when he wasn?t on set.
?Look, my mom is a crazy Italian lady from New Jersey, the first time Mark Schwahn grabbed my ass I hit him in front of six other producers, and I hit him f?cking hard,? Bush revealed, adding she was 21 at the time. ?He came back to LA and I was told years later by one of the then writers who became an EP, that he came back being like ?that f?cking entitled b?ch! Who does she think she is?? and this very sweet man Mike who I love and is like a ride or die for me was like ?Maybe you shouldn?t touch the girls.??
The actress, 35, then added that Schwahn gave Mike an option to ?shut up and keep your job or get out.?
?It was very clear to him to stay away from me. You heard comments you knew about things he said to people, we knew about the late night texts. We knew when he was super obsessed with one girl on our show that he would try to bang down her hotel room door in the middle of the night,? she continued.
The activist also commented on those who ask her why she didn?t just leave the show when it all began. (She was part of One Tree Hill from its beginning in 2003 until the end in 2012.)
?First of all, why am I supposed to suffer and kill my own career because someone can?t keep their dick in their pants? Second of all, there is a whole crew of people don?t know about,? she explained. ?It?s the reason I am angry about Roseanne being hired back to TV at all, 200 people lost their jobs because she is a psychotic racist.?

The way that Schwahn responded to the guy who stood up for Bush sounds very similar to the situation Wauchope originally wrote about, that even the men felt powerless. She wrote I don?t blame the men on that staff ? I truly believe they were also in a way victims of psychological abuse and didn?t know what to do. When the boss is the one setting the tone, theres this fear of standing up to him to protect victims because youll just get fired. It sounds awful. I also like how Bush called out Roseanne for what she is a psychotic racist.
As for the rumors that Bush left Chicago P.D. last fall because of a coworker, she didnt name the person, but said that 99.9 percent of the people who are on that show are my family. She did sort-of confirm that someone was awful to her though. To have encountered two really terrible people over the course of my career, is kind of a cakewalk. Two people is more than she should have had to deal with. No one should have to give up a job because of an unreasonable or abusive person, but were seeing that play out on a national stage and its terrifying.
Bush has been promoting Incredibles 2 and was on Fallon this week. You can see her interview on YouTube. She talked about how she often rides the subway in New York City without getting noticed, and that she sees a lot of hot guys reading on the subway. She said she also loves camping and outdoor activities and recently took a trip to Alaska with her girlfriends. Shes adorable.
Also, do you remember how salty Chad Michael Murray sounded in his response to Bush saying she wasnt into marrying him? Well his wife posted something about it too and she sounds ridiculous. She used a dumb retro meme and a bunch of hashtags. Did she not hear how things were on set? Regardless she sounds perfect for Murray.

I was too old for One Tree Hill I don?t think I?ve ever watched it? But I?m generally aware that there were a lot of scandals and gossip around the cast members. At one point, Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray got married they were something like the TV-version and precursor to K-Stew & R-Pattz. People shipped their characters and people were happy that Bush and Murray were together in real life. The marriage was short-lived though. Murray and Bush divorced within five months of getting married, but only after Bush tried to get the sh-t annulled because of ?fraud.? That happened in 2005-06. Anyway, all of these years later, Bush is still being asked about what went down. She was being interviewed by Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show, and this is what she said about it:
Everybodys been 22 and stupidIt was not a thing I actually really wanted to do, the actress said, talking about the marriage.
I dont understand because if you didnt want to get married, how do you get to the point of being, like, talked into it? Cohen asked.
Because how do you let everybody down, Bush said. And how do you- whats the fight and when you have bosses telling you that youre the only person who gets a person to work on time and 200 people either get to see their kids at night or they dont because our days start on time. Life is always loaded. What the public knows ever is never- its not the tip of the iceberg. Hilarie [Burton] and I used to laugh and we were like, If we had a behind-the-scenes show, the drama would be so much fking better than the drama that the writers write. I get why you ask, but its like, people wont let it go.

I get what she was saying she was 22, on a wildly successful show and in a relationship with a guy who had some issues. She was told by everyone that marrying the guy would be great for her career, great for the show, great for the fandom. Since the Weinstein scandal broke, Sophia, like many women, continues to demand change in Hollywood and justice for victims. Last year, Sophia partnered with EcoTools to ?jumpstart a social conversation around feminism, beauty, female solidarity, and sisterhood? on social media. Each time the hashtag #MyTrueBeauty was used on Twitter, $1 was donated to The Girl Project. Just this past weekend, Sophia was the keynote speaker at the Create & Cultivate conference?s Second Annual Style Summit in Houston. Prior to her address, Sophia spoke to People about how she plans to keep speaking up for all women.
Sophia Bushhas long usedher social media feedsas a place to voice her feelings on hot-button issues like the presidential election and gun control. But in the wake ofthe Harvey Weinstein scandal,she?s spoken up even more about women?s rights and the harassment so many females face on a daily basis.

The actress recently shared her own #metoo story following the Weinstein allegations, and said she believes the words ?me too? are ?the two most powerful words in the English language. If we can use them as a bridge to join hands with other women and create authentic support systems for one another, we can do anything. Being there for other women. Believing other women. Standing up for other women. Showing up for other women. It starts there.?

I like her comment about working so hard just to get to the starting line. If I pair it with her thoughts on showing up for each other, I start to think there?s hope for us yet. As long as we underline the part about ?all? of us standing at the same starting line, meaning all women too, then I think we?re moving in the right direction.
In other news, Sophia left Chicago PD at the end of season four. After her departure, it was announced that she and Century Fox TV had signed a development deal so she’ll be able to stretch her wings as an executive producer. Since news of this deal did not leak prior to her departing the show, some speculated about whether Sophia had left Chicago PD of her own accord. When a user name aptly @scottydontkno questioned her leaving on her post announcing her deal, Sophia responded personally with, ?Took me a long time and a lot of hard work to get out of that show. Please don?t demean my capabilities by degrading my position. I left because I wanted to. End of story.? I like her answer a lot. But I also want to know why she wanted off the show so badly, it sounds like there might be some behind-the-scenes gossip there. However, one thing we know about Sophia is that she addresses things in her time and on her playing field so I?ll have to wait on that. In the meantime, I?ll have to settle for reading about Sophia and her fight for women. I?m cool with that.

I really don?t know much about Sophia Bush beyond the fact that I think she is crazy beautiful. I don?t know if that is a universal opinion but she is my type so I pore over photos of her. I did know that she married Chad Michael Murray when she was young (she was 21) and that their marriage was over in a New York Minute. I assumed wrongdoing on his part and felt she took the high road in not discussing it. Sophia, who currently stars on Chicago P.D., recently wrote an essay for Cosmopolitan in which she finally speaks, not about the failed relationship, but why she never addressed it. I have edited her essay for space but you can read the full piece here. I?m not sure why she is writing this essay now but I found myself agreeing with almost every point.
It seems we often learn about what love is?or what we think it should be?from movies and TV. There?s this binary idea of ?I love him!/He?s the worst!? ?I?m going to marry him!/I never want to speak to him again!? Sure, everybody has moments when they look at their partner and wonder, Could this person be my person? But I believe that the more you experience, the more your feelings begin to exist in shades of gray.
In my 20s, when I was starting out my career as an actor, I wasn?t looking for a relationship, but one found me and became serious, even though I hadn?t planned to settle down until my 30s. But when the person you?re with asks you to marry him, you think: This must be happening because it?s supposed to.
But I refuse to let that one relationship define me, which is why I?ve done my best to avoid discussing it for 10 years. The reality is that, yes, it was a massive event in my life. And the trauma of it was amplified by how public it became, which was incredibly foreign and bizarre to a girl who?d been just another college kid 24 months before her life blew up.
And thus, I came to appreciate that relationships often serve a specific purpose at a certain point in time, for myriad reasons. This reality has taught me that the relationships that don?t lead to lifetime commitments are not failures. Not every love can last forever.
A few months with the right person can be as great an experience as a decade-long union with someone else.

Sophia once said of her first marriage, “It devastates me now that I have been reduced to a Hollywood statistic ? another joke marriage.” I can’t imagine what it would be like to try and reemerge from such a thing only to see your name chased by, ‘Chad Michael Murray?s ex wife’ everywhere it’s printed. I appreciate that she was able to discuss her divorce without demonizing her ex-husband (although I still suspect he might deserve it). Because her essay isn’t about what a jerk Chad Michael is, it’s about realizing that all of your relationships help define you are what you want in love, even if they don’t last. On that point, I could not agree more. Once I realized I was dating for the experience and not forcing each guy to be THE ONE – I had a blast. More importantly, I learned a lot about myself. People don’t really talk about this much. Like she says in the beginning, we are fed the notion that love is extreme and enduring through movies and stories when in fact, sometimes it merely serves a purpose in the here and now.
As I said, I didn’t know much about Sophia. I have come to find out she is a hands-on activist for several causes and frequently speaks out when she feels she should. Clearly I have been doing myself a disservice by just looking at her photos.

Several weeks back, I read an article on Slate which really stuck with me. It bothered me so much! Slate wrote about how airlines (American and internationally) are ill-equipped to deal with sexual assaults and sexual harassment which occur on-board. You can read the Slate article here. The following story reminded me a lot of the Slate piece, because at some point, I would have hoped that someone (a flight attendant, the air marshal, someone) would have stepped in and helped out Sophia Bush. But it doesn?t seem like they did. Sophia Bush posted a statement on her Twitter over the weekend, detailing her uncomfortable and creepy encounter with a man on a plane. This is what she wrote:
Dear Random Dude on a Plane:
When you make a woman so visibly uncomfortable, that after you’ve ignored all visual cues to please leave her alone (one word answers, she pulls out a book, puts on a hat, she actually asks you to not speak to her with the tone and words you’re choosing to use) that she finally GETS UP and MOVES SEATS, leave her alone. Do not continue trying to make conversation.
Stop turning around and looking at her. Stop leaning out of your seat and towards her body when she has to grab something out of the overhead bin above her original seat, and sadly also above you, mid flight.
And in my case, stop believing that you are entitled to make me uncomfortable because you ?watch my TV show’ so I owe you some magical debt. I make it, you watch it. After that, the ?exchange’ is done. You do not get to harass me, or any woman, because you think you pay our bills. You don’t bro, I DO.”

Yeah, that?s harassment. When you make a woman feel that uncomfortable, that?s harassment and it should have been stopped by a flight attendant or someone else. Not that it?s the airline?s fault, nor is it Sophia?s responsibility to take action against someone harassing her. It?s the dude?s fault. He sounds like a total creep. Ugh. But the thing is, I bet there are a lot of men who think this way, that there?s something transactional in their encounters with a famous woman, that she ?owes? him something. Disgusting.

Many celebrities who are active on social media have to contend with obnoxious trolls. Unfortunately, until social media offers individual users more control and/or until Twitter and Instagram crack down on abuse, it’s going to keep happening. It’s one thing to deal with a bothersome troll or rude tweets, it’s quite another to have a stalker who spends countless hours creating fake accounts from which to harass other fans. Chicago Fire actress Sophia Bush, 32, is being harassed online so much that she’s decided to speak out about it. She posted screenshots of the stalker’s tweets as well as detailed information about how he’s spewing hate at other users. The stalker has created accounts in Bush’s name from which he’s sending violent threats. Bush has contacted law enforcement who have advised her to ignore it, but it’s gotten so bad that she’s saying something about it.
For the past few months I have been harassed to the point of sheer horror by an online stalker. This person has taken to harassing and bullying many of my followers as well.
