Many of us were surprised last summer when Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara announced their separation. They ended up filing for divorce, and everything was finalized quickly (they had a prenup), Joe got custody of Sofia?s dog Bubbles and I think Joe walked away with a couple of million. One of the main issues, as it turned out, was that Joe wanted to become a father and Sofia simply wasn?t into it. She?s already a mom, and her son is already 32 years old (she had Manolo when she was 19). Sofia never really talked about that side of her divorce before now, but she?s currently promoting her Netflix miniseries Griselda, and she ended up addressing it with El Pais:
Sofa Vergara is confirming that Joe Manganiello?s desire to have children led to their divorce.
?My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn?t want to be an old mom,? the actress, 51, recently told El Pas. ?I feel it?s not fair to the baby.?
The ?Modern Family? star made sure to note that although she ?respect[s]? those who wish to welcome children later in life, the path is just ?not for [her] anymore.?
?I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I?m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,? she explained of Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, whom she shares with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez.
?I?m almost in menopause; it?s the natural way of things,? she said, adding, ?When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I?ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that?s what I have to do.?
But make no mistake; Sofa is open to love again ? as long as her next romantic partner has kids of his own. The Emmy Award nominee debuted her relationship with an orthopedic surgeon named Justin Saliman in October 2023. It?s unclear whether he has children.

I feel sorry for her a little bit because this was her second relationship in a row which ended because she basically didn?t want to be a mother again. I think she believed that Joe was fine with it and maybe he was? until he wasn?t. Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced their divorce last July, during the Summer of Celebrity Breakups. It was a bit of a surprise because in terms of celebrity couples, these two seemed well-suited for one another. By all accounts or rather, by lack of these two letting their divorce play out publicly it was an amicable and mature conscious uncoupling. There was some chatter around what went wrong. We heard the more go-to rumors, like he wanted kids and she didn?t, he was unsupportive of her, his sobriety and her social drinking were an issue, etc. But in the end, it sounded like the relationship had run its course and there was no one big issue that broke them up.
Within a few weeks, no one was really talking about their divorce anymore and both moved on. Joe has been dating actress Caitlin O?Connor since the fall. Sofia was seen out on a date with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman, but she told Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday?s ep of The Tonight Show that she?s currently single and ready to mingle with the non-showbiz men of New York City. This past weekend, Sofia also appeared on CBS Sunday Morning. During that interview, she talked about how she dreaded what the press would say about their split and expressed her relief that the news got a fairly tame reaction.
Sofa Vergara expected quite a different reaction to the end of her marriage with Joe Manganiello. The Modern Family actress, whos become beloved for playing Gloria Delgato-Pritchett on the ABC sitcom, knew her divorce from the Magic Mike actor last year would stir up some talk in the press.
Youre out there and people know?thats part of being a celebrity, Vergara explained during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning on Jan. 14. I knew it was going to happen. You cant hide those things.
However, the 51-year-old thought the conversation surrounding the split was going to be a little, er, less kind.
It wasnt bad, the former Americas Got Talent judge revealed. I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice, and I thought that they were going to invent more things. I was surprised that they kind of just said what it was and that was it.

I think that if both sides were running to different outlets, leaking info about the other one and pointing fingers, it would have gone down differently. But, frankly, they didn?t feed the tabloid trolls, so the trolls went elsewhere for a juicer story. And let?s face it: they did not go hungry this summer and early fall. During the same time period in which Joefia broke up, Ariana Grande was busy macking it with still-married and new father SpongeBob CheaterPants while Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner?s prenup and child support melodrama was still playing out. A few weeks later, a different Joe and Sophie (Jonas and Turner) took all of the attention away with their chaotic divorce drama.
Sofia is currently promoting a Netflix miniseries called Griselda, which is based on the true story of ruthless former drug queenpin Griselda Blanco. In 1964, Blanco left her home country of Colombia for Miami, began a successful cocaine operation, and became known as the ?Cocaine Godmother.? Vergara stars as Blanco and also produced it. The first of six episodes drops on January 25.

It feels like months and months since the news broke that Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello were getting divorced, but it was only three months ago, in late July! Time flies, but my perception could be off because there?s been like 200 celeb divorces and memoirs that have taken up so much oxygen in the proverbial gossip room since then. Where we last left off, though, was a fairly amicable divorce, or at least an amicable public split. Sofia wanted thecourt to uphold their prenup and Joe got custody of their dog. Last month, Joe debuted his new girlfriend, who is only 13 years younger than he is. On Friday night, Sofia went out on a date in LA with Justin Saliman, an orthopedic surgeon who used to be married to The Ugly Truth star Bree Turner.
Sofa Vergara was spotted out Friday night looking stunning in a black corset, purple suede pants and black heels. She also had a little arm candy, a silver fox who has since been identified by Page Six as orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.
The duo was photographed going out to dinner in Beverly Hills, California. Its unclear how long Vergara, 51, and Saliman have been seeing each other or if this was the first date. ET has reached out to Vergaras reps for comment but so far, no word back. Whatever the case, this is proof that Vergara indeed can spot talent.
For starters, Saliman studied sports medicine at Stanford where he cared for the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford athletes before earning his medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Denver native, who practices at the famed Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center of Columbia University in New York City.
According to a Forbes report, Saliman is the inventor of the NovoStitch Pro Meniscal Repair System, which was acquired by the medical technology company Smith & Nephew in 2019 for a whopping $105 million. According to his bio, Saliman still uses the device to repair knee joints, and hes considered the foremost medical expert when it comes to sewing meniscus tears back together.
Fun fact Saliman is the grandson of one of the lead engineers for the Hoover Dam.

First, that is a very fun fact, indeed. Dams and knees, that Saliman family can fix it all! So, I looked up Saliman?s age because I was curious, and hes reportedly 49-years-old, with two children from his first marriage. This, of course, means nothing other than after allegedly being burned twice by men who wanted children when she didn?t, Sofias got her filters on accordingly and is only swiping right on men who are likely done with wanting or having kids. Good for her!
I also discovered that according to Page Six, Sofia and Justin went out ?near where Kim Kardashian was holding her 43rd birthday bash? and that although she was not invited to Kimmie K?s party, Sofia?s date ?just happened to be in the same vicinity.? Interesting that it ?just happened? to be near a party for one of the world?s biggest seekers of attention and inviters of paparazzi. It?s almost like Sofia wanted to be seen on a date with a wealthy, renowned surgeon to send a message that she?s winning the post-divorce dating game. You know what, Sofia? Get it, girl.

Before today, I never realized that Sofia Vergara is a dog-mom to a Chihuahua who hates her. Her Chihuahua is named Bubbles, and Sofia adopted Bubbles several years ago. Even though Bubbles was supposed to be Sofia?s dog, Bubbles fell instantly in love with Joe Manganiello. So much so that Sofia even complained about it in multiple interviews, how Bubbles is obsessed with Joe and how Bubbles always bites her. Well, now that Joe and Sofia are getting a divorce, Sofia is cutting her ties with the dog who hates her.
Sofia Vergara has reportedly handed her 10-year-old Chihuahua-Pomerainian mix, Bubbles, over to estranged husband Joe Manganiello without a fight.
?Not in a million years would Joe part ways with his dog Bubbles and Sofa is well aware of this,? a source told the Daily Mail on Tuesday. ?Neither one of them is bitter or out for revenge, and Sofa loves Bubbles and wants her to be happy which is precisely why she?s letting Joe have custody.?
The insider added that the ?Modern Family? alum was ?gracious? about Manganiello ? who filed for divorce from Vergara on July 19 ? keeping the pooch after their split.
?[Manganiello] said Sofa has the biggest heart and would never do anything to intentionally hurt him or Bubbles,? the source added.
Under California State law, pets are considered personal property when couples are dividing their assets. However, after a new law was passed in 2019, judges presiding over divorces can now take into consideration the best interest of the pet?s well-being and may establish shared custody agreements at their discretion. It appears that the former couple ? who shared no children together aside from their furry friend ? decided to keep Bubbles out of court.
Though Vergara was the one to adopt Bubbles two years ago, the ?Spider-Man? actor has seemingly bonded with the pooch the most. In 2021, Vergara, 51, joked on ?The Tonight Show? about how Bubbles chose the ?True Blood? alum over her. ?She hates me. She was supposed to be for me. She was supposed to be my dog. She arrived to the house and I don?t know, she thought she was for Joe and that?s all she wants to do.?

While Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello?s split was a surprise, it didn?t seem like their divorce would be all that scandalous. There was a minor briefing war for about a week between the two sides, with Joe?s people insisting that he was walking away from the marriage because he wants to be a father, and Sofia?s side saying Joe was an unsupportive, barely employed loser, basically. There?s probably some truth to both sides. In any case, Joe filed for divorce and I doubt the filing was a shock to Sofia. Her divorce lawyer has already gone to court to say that her prenup must be upheld:
Sofa Vergara is looking to uphold her prenup with Joe Manganiello as the two work to settle the terms of their divorce. According to new documents obtained by PEOPLE, Vergara responded to Manganiello?s divorce filing on July 26, also citing ?irreconcilable differences? as the reason for the dissolution of their marriage.
The actress asked the court to uphold their prenup, and also confirm that certain assets should remain hers, including jewelry, artwork and ?other personal effects.? Vergara also claimed her earnings from before and during their marriage as her assets.
Despite their shared mutual love and respect, a source previously told PEOPLE the Modern Familystar and the True Blood alum differ immensely in style and what they like to do, although during the marriage, each tried to put the other?s interests ahead of their own to make it work.? The couple had also been going through ups and downs for a long time, though they always put on a good front publicly.
On the same day that Vergara responded to Manganiellos divorce filing, a source told PEOPLE that the actress was doing excellent amid the divorce news.
She is sad that her marriage didn?t work out, but she feels very fortunate anyway, the source said. She has a great life that she loves. She is staying at her house for now. Joe is living elsewhere. The insider added that there is no drama between the former couple.

I doubt there will be any reason for Joe to contest the prenup they were married for almost seven years, but they don?t have kids together and it feels like they always kept their assets separate, although the real estate issue might get a little bit dicey. They were living in a home Sofia paid for, but I think they also purchased a home together. If I was in Sofia?s place, I would offer a one-and-done divorce settlement to Joe and just walk away free and clear.

When Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara?s split was first announced this week, my first instinct/guess was ?I wonder if this was about kids.? Sofia was a young mother her son Manolo is already 31 years old. She has repeatedly expressed her lack of desire to do any of that again. Considering all of the crap she went through with Nick Loeb, I always assumed she put her cards on the table with Joe and let him know that she had no interest in having another kid.
Well, as TMZ reported, Joe was the one to file for divorce. His lawyer is Laura Wasser, there?s a prenup in place and neither party seems interested in contesting it. I would imagine there will be a minor fight over real estate, but overall this will probably be a pretty cut-and-dry divorce. At the end of TMZ?s piece, they noted: ?Speaking of kids, were hearing a big reason Joe has filed is their conflict over having children he wants them, she does not.? In case you?ve blocked out the Nick Loeb saga, that ahole kept dragging Sofia into court for years after she broke off their engagement. Loeb wanted ?custody? of the embryos they created while they were together he wanted to implant the embryos into another woman and raise Sofia?s biological children as a single father. It was truly bonkers. Loeb?s other aim was to be a nuisance, a thorn in Sofia?s side, and attempt to do damage to her marriage to Joe. If Sofia was originally open to having a kid with Joe, and then the Loeb stuff affected her, I don?t really blame her. Although, as I said at the beginning of the post, I kind of think Sofia was always done with having kids. That?s her right. And Joe can change his mind too.

Is anyone else still bummed about Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara? I thought they were the real deal! I also thought Joe approached the marriage in a very grown-up, cards-on-the-table way. He was already sober (he?s been sober for over two decades) and working a program when they met, and he didn?t make his sobriety his entire personality either it was just part of who he was. Sofia, on the other hand, was still a social drinker and I?m sure she kept alcohol in the house. Well, reportedly, that was an issue:

As for marital property, Vergara and the ?True Blood? star moved into a shared home in May 2015, six months before they said ?I do.? According to TMZ, she?s the one who purchased the seven-bedroom, 11,000-square-foot Beverly Hills pad for $10.6 million.
Last July, the outlet reported that the pair put the fully renovated estate ? equipped with a chef?s kitchen, gym, movie theater and pool with a spa ? on the market for a staggering $19.6 million.
The then-couple was simultaneously building a bigger and better home in the same area, per TMZ.
?My belief is that they probably are at a more advanced stage [in their divorce] than people would think, because usually when people make the announcement like they made yesterday, they?ve already done some of the preliminary work,? Siegel tells us. ?It doesn?t look like it?s messy ? yet,? he adds. ?It?s a good sign when people issue the kind of statement that they did, saying that they wanted to do this amicably, but it doesn?t always work out that way.?

I would also imagine that the terms of the pre-nup are upheld and that they?ll both walk away with whatever they earned separately within the marriage, and Sofia will probably get the real estate (since she was the one paying for their homes). Joe is a working actor and he probably has a nice nest egg, but Sofia is very rich.

There was an infamous photo, at the time, of Joe eyefking Sofia while she was on Nick?s arm. Soon after, Sofia and Nick were done and Sofia and Joe were together. They seemed especially well-suited for each other they are close in age (she?s 51, he?s 46), he made it clear that Sofia was his dream girl, she enjoyed being adored, and they actually seemed to have a fun relationship and a lot of compatibility. As much as I want to think of Joe Manganiello as a himbo meathead, he?s more than that. Joe is winning at life he works consistently, he?s married to his dream girl, Sofia Vergara, and everything?s coming up roses for him. I also think he?s probably more of a theater geek than people realize AND more nerdy in general than his six-pack abs would have us believe. Joe chatted with the current issue of People Magazine about his upcoming five-year anniversarry with Sofia, and lots of other stuff:
He adores his wife: ?I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me. And we?re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you dont let go of it?. My instincts about her were right.
He & Sofia did marathons of his favorite shows in quarantine: ?Sofia had never seen Mad Men, which I saw every episode of and was obsessed with, so we went through all of Mad Men. Then she had never seen The Sopranos and I was like, ?Thats the greatest show thats ever been made that kicked off all of the great cable shows. It paved the way. You have to see these.? So I watched The Sopranos again. She thought it was brilliant.?
What else they?ve watched together: They also revisited ?lots of obscure movies? that Manganiello considers ?favorites.? ?I love [director and producer] John Milius so I watched Conan the Barbarian again, and Ive been going through David Fincher movies. And we watched all three seasons of Eastbound & Down, which shed never seen.?
He?s been busy on other stuff too: ?Ive actually had a strangely busy quarantine.? Thats included raising money for Make-a-Wish America by auctioning off a chance to play Dungeons & Dragons with him, ?doing tons of animation? work, and wrapping a mysterious motion capture project that he teased on Instagram.
He?s still a gym rat: ?I eat whatever I want, but training-wise, six days a week Im in there. Ive really been able to make some progress in the gym over the past six months in quarantine. Because I have a home gym for Gods sake, which is worth its weight in gold now.?
He loves his own fur: ?Anytime that I shave, its always for work. I cant remember the last time I got a haircut for fun or shaved because I wanted to personally. If I had it my way, Id have a beard down to my chest.?

With all of the quarantine divorces, it?s easy to forget that some couples probably really enjoyed the lockdown because they got to spend a lot of time with the people they love the most. I imagine Sofia?s head was spinning after all of those marathons, although I?ve been wondering if I should do a Mad Men marathon this year too. I?ve done marathons of everything else! Bones, Castle, Saving Grace. Maybe I should watch all of my Miss Marples next.
As for his home gym? what I wouldn?t give for a home gym! What a luxury. I hope Sofia?s not sick of him, because he sounds like he?s more in love with her than ever.

Just recently I was describing what its like to do fashion commentary, and I used Sofia Vergara as an example. I said Do you know how Sofia Vergara always wears fitted mermaid dresses? Well you notice when she sticks or veers from that look and mention it. So here she is in a red Dolce & Gabbana strapless gown with silver sequin piping. This is her typical look but she still worked it. I loved her giant hoop earrings they were amazing. Sofia presented with Matt Bomer and she called him out for saying one of her lines. Some people thought that was a bit, but I though she was just standing up for herself. She wore Dolce & Gabbana though, and given how problematic those designers are this was absolutely a choice.
Also in a fitted dress with sequin piping was Molly Sims. I dont have a designer ID on this and she posted three photos to Instagram without mentioning it! I think I would like this better without the ruffles. The top half is gorgeous.
